Mis preferencias en el cine están vinculadas por lo general a alguna historia con la que me identifico, esa que me deja enganchada hasta el final. Sin embargo, eso no lo es todo, siempre hay un personaje que nos conmueve o con quien nos sentimos afines, creo que desde allí parte la esencia de todo.
My preferences in cinema are usually linked to a story with which I identify, the one that keeps me hooked until the end. However, that's not everything, there is always a character that moves us or with whom we feel akin, I think that's where the essence of everything starts from.
Muy importante, quien interpreta el personaje nos atrapa, la manera como lo hace, que emociones nos transmite, son factores que sin lugar a dudas no podemos dejar de lado. Siempre he pensado que actuar no es fácil, aprender libretos, hacer gestos, demostrar rabia, alegría, tristeza por algo que no es realmente tuyo, no es nada sencillo, pero eso sí, digno de admirar. Hacer todo eso y que se vea natural, al punto de poner a vibrar al público, que podamos vivir y entender lo que sufre, padece o disfruta el personaje, eso solo puede lograrlo un verdadero actor. A veces esas actuaciones nos sacan risas, sonrisas, sentimientos indignantes y una que otra lagrimita.
Very important, the person who plays the character catches us, the way he/she does it, the emotions he/she transmits, are factors that undoubtedly cannot be left aside. I have always thought that acting is not easy, learning scripts, making gestures, showing anger, joy, sadness for something that is not really yours, is not easy at all, but it is worth admiring. Doing all that and making it look natural, to the point of making the audience vibrate, so that we can live and understand what the character suffers, suffers or enjoys, that can only be achieved by a true actor. Sometimes these performances make us laugh, smile, feel outrageous feelings and even cry a tear or two.
Ahora bien, este concurso me puso a pensar, pero encontré rápidamente a mi actor favorito, sé que pudiera mencionar a más de uno, pero en esta ocasión he elegido a Jim Carrey. Este actor Canadiense nacionalizado americano, ya tiene 60 años, hoy retirado de las luces y los escenarios por razones personales, me ha dejado lindos recuerdos. No se sabe si volverá a actuar para deleitarnos una vez más con sus maravillosas interpretaciones, esperemos que sí.
Now, this contest got me thinking, but I quickly found my favorite actor, I know I could mention more than one, but this time I have chosen Jim Carrey. This Canadian actor, naturalized American citizen, now 60 years old, now retired from the lights and the stage for personal reasons, has left me fond memories. It is not known if he will come back to act to delight us once again with his wonderful interpretations, let's hope he will.
¿Cómo supe de Jim carrey?. Quizás su carrera despegó hace mucho tiempo, pero yo lo vi actuar por primera vez en “The Mask”, cuyo estreno fue en el año 1994. Yo la vi muchos años después. Jim estaba joven, apuesto, pero su personaje estaba enfocado en un anti galán por su forma torpe e introvertida de manejarse en la vida. En esta historia interpretó a Stanley Ipkiss, un hombre con una vida monótona y aburrida, nunca decía lo que pensaba y por eso su jefe abusaba de él, era una especie de perdedor.
How did I hear about Jim carrey. Maybe his career took off a long time ago, but I first saw him act in "The Mask", which premiered in 1994. I saw it many years later. Jim was young, handsome, but his character was focused on an anti-gallant because of his awkward, introverted way of handling himself in life. In this story he played Stanley Ipkiss, a man with a monotonous and boring life, he never said what he thought and that's why his boss abused him, he was a kind of loser.
No obstante, el giro vino después, cuando se colocó una extraña máscara que se encontró en un lago, y esta le cambió la vida por completo, su personalidad se volvió extrovertida, atrevida y comenzó a divertirse mucho, muy diferente al hastiado ejecutivo de banco que representaba Ipkiss. Yo me identificaba con el personaje porque nunca me pasaba nada interesante, claro, en la máscara había mucha fantasía. Cuando Ipkiss usaba la máscara no solo su personalidad cambiaba, también su físico, su cara se ponía verde y sus dientes eran enormes, un personaje que jamás pasaría inadvertido.
However, the twist came later, when he put on a strange mask that he found in a lake, and it changed his life completely, his personality became extroverted, daring and he began to have a lot of fun, very different from the jaded bank executive that Ipkiss represented. I identified with the character because nothing interesting ever happened to me, of course, in the mask there was a lot of fantasy. When Ipkiss wore the mask, not only his personality changed, but also his physique, his face turned green and his teeth were huge, a character that would never go unnoticed.
Recuerdo que noté que el personaje de la máscara hacía muchas morisquetas, bastante exageradas diría yo, y no me acostumbraba a ver un personaje así. Nunca vi a un actor hacer tantas muecas, se lo dije a mi hermano y éste me dijo, “eso no es nada, ahí está decente, si lo vieras en Ace Ventura”. Ya él había visto varias películas de este actor, entre ellas las secuelas de Ace Ventura, me habló tanto de ese personaje que me decidí a ver sus películas (no todas) y morí de risa. Ya verlo haciendo muecas se me hizo normal y me reía mucho con sus interpretaciones. Desde entonces si veía a Jim Carrey sin hacer gestos, era como si se tratara de otro actor, no de Jim.
I remember that I noticed that the character in the mask was making a lot of faces, quite exaggerated I would say, and I was not used to seeing a character like that. I had never seen an actor make so many grimaces, I told my brother and he said, "that's nothing, that's decent, if you saw him in Ace Ventura". He had already seen several movies of this actor, among them the sequels of Ace Ventura, he told me so much about this character that I decided to watch his movies (not all of them) and I died laughing. Seeing him grimacing became normal to me and I laughed a lot with his performances. Since then, if I saw Jim Carrey without making gestures, it was as if he was another actor, not Jim.
Luego de ver Ace Ventura, seguí con otras películas como “Me, Myself & Irene”, donde hizo de nuevo a un perdedor, un policía que se trastornó y cambió su personalidad a raíz de recibir muchos abusos. La película era muy cómica, con un humor negro que solo Jim puede transmitirnos, al menos es mi opinión. Un claro mensaje dejó, el hecho de no decir lo que pensaba y ser tan blandengue, lo llevó a generar una personalidad extrema, algo cruel, contraria a Charlie Baileygate, era entonces cuando se convertía en el temible Hank Evans. Jim Carrey me hizo reír mucho, sus películas son especiales para aquellos que están tristes, y nada mejor que la risa para dejar todo lo malo atrás.
After watching Ace Ventura, I went on to other movies like "Me, Myself & Irene", where he again played a loser, a cop who became deranged and changed his personality as a result of being abused. The movie was very comical, with a black humor that only Jim can transmit, at least that's my opinion. A clear message he left, the fact of not saying what he thought and being so soft, led him to generate an extreme personality, somewhat cruel, contrary to Charlie Baileygate, it was then when he became the fearsome Hank Evans. Jim Carrey made me laugh a lot, his movies are special for those who are sad, and there is nothing better than laughter to leave all the bad things behind.
“Liar Liar”, fue una de las que más disfruté, me reí demasiado, su gestualidad era impresionante, supongo que tuvo que repetir las escenas muchas veces por no poder aguantar la risa, y no solo él, todos los del set. En este film interpretó a Fletcher Reede, un abogado divorciado con un hijo, a quien siempre le mentía, le prometía cosas que luego no cumplía. Por eso, el día de su cumpleaños el niño pide un deseo y éste se le cumple, “que su papá no dijera mentiras por un día”. Así que Fletcher, se valía de todo tipos de gestos y movimientos físicos exageradamente divertidos para no abrir la boca y decir lo que realmente pensaba porque no podía mentir.
Después de ver Ace Ventura, pasé a otras películas como "Me, Myself & Irene", donde volvía a interpretar a un perdedor, un policía que se desquiciaba y cambiaba su personalidad como consecuencia de los malos tratos. La película era muy cómica, con un humor negro que sólo Jim puede transmitir, al menos esa es mi opinión. Un claro mensaje que dejó, el hecho de no decir lo que pensaba y ser tan blando, lo llevó a generar una personalidad extrema, algo cruel, al contrario que Charlie Baileygate, fue entonces cuando se convirtió en el temible Hank Evans. Jim Carrey me hizo reír mucho, sus películas son especiales para los que están tristes, y no hay nada mejor que la risa para dejar atrás todo lo malo.
El humor era su fuerte, pero en el film de comedia negra “The Cable Guy”, vemos a un Carrey interpretando a un hombre mentalmente perturbado, que “busca una supuesta amistad”, pero en lugar de eso se obsesiona con sus clientes y los acecha.

También lo he visto de villano en “Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events”, donde tuvo el honor de trabajar con una gran actriz, Meryl Streep. El personaje que interpretó fue al Conde Olaf, un padrastro ambicioso que hizo muchas maldades para apoderarse de la cuantiosa fortuna de unos huérfanos que el mismo adoptó.
I have also seen him as a villain in "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events", where he had the honor of working with a great actress, Meryl Streep. The character he played was Count Olaf, an ambitious stepfather who did many evil deeds to get his hands on the large fortune of some orphans he himself adopted.
La verdad es que la mayoría de sus películas se basan mayormente en la comedia, en combinación con la fantasía, la ficción y el humor negro, no obstante, este actor es muy versátil. Nos acostumbramos a pensar en la risa a apenas lo nombran, porque es cierto, es un gran humorista, capaz de entretenernos con sus gestualidad, su cambios de voz y el carisma que transmite en cada uno de los personajes que interpreta.
The truth is that most of his films are based mostly on comedy, in combination with fantasy, fiction and black humor, however, this actor is very versatile. We get used to think of laughter as soon as he is mentioned, because it is true, he is a great humorist, able to entertain us with his gestures, his voice changes and the charisma he transmits in each of the characters he plays.
A pesar de ser un excelente comediante, es posible verlo serio, romántico y vivir un gran drama emocional como en la película, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. En este film hizo pareja con la famosa actriz del “Titanic”, Kate Winslet, y compartió créditos con Kirsten Dunst, conocida por el papel de Mary Jane Watson en el “Hombre Araña”.

Jim Carrey no se deja de sorprendernos, ha logrado dejar el humor atrás para dejarnos sumergidos en un drama psicológico repleto de suspenso en el “The Number 23”. En su personaje como Walter Sparrow, se obsesiona con un libro y vive los peores momentos de su vida, atormentado con asesinatos y hechos que le hacen perder el hilo de la realidad.
Jim Carrey never ceases to surprise us, he has managed to leave humor behind to leave us immersed in a psychological drama full of suspense in "The Number 23". In his character as Walter Sparrow, he becomes obsessed with a book and lives the worst moments of his life, tormented by murders and events that make him lose the thread of reality.
Creo que un actor es muy bueno no solo por recitar de memoria algunas líneas, pienso que tiene mucho que ver con la forma como expresa las emociones, la naturalidad con la que interpreta cada una de las escenas y las diversas facetas que es capaz de asumir. Jim ha hecho de todo un poco, además, es cantante y muy buen bailarín, lo demostró en The Mask, con Cameron Díaz y luego en la escena con los policías, para mí fue la mejor de todas, inolvidable, porque puso a más de uno a bailar.

Sin duda alguna si quieres risas una pelicula de Jim Carrey no te va a decepcionar aunque mi pelicula favorita de el por mucho es el Numero 23 que veo que mencionaste!!!
Así es, lo relaciono más con la risa que con otro género. Sin embargo, nos sorprendió con la película el número 23.
He is a different actor, I watched him multiple times, and it attracts me always to watch his movies. He now is getting retired I guess, It is a pity! About count olaf I preferred Neil Patrick Harries in the Netflix show, have you watched it? Thanks for the review!

Me agradó mucho tu post, si bien no me gusta mucho este actor por las muecas que hace y lo que dijo tu hermano es verdad jajaja eso me ha hecho reir mucho, como ya lo dije no me gusta mucho este actor pero sin duda hay q reconocer que es muy bueno en lo que hace, inclusive me ha sacado muchas carcajadas, he visto muchas de sus peliculas y creo q mi favorita por mucho es TODOPODEROSO aunque acepto que me gustó verlo en SONIC no se si salió en SONIC 2, acepto que me gustaría verlo de nuevo aunque sin tantas muecas jajajaja..
Hi, he's not retired yet, he just stepped away to fulfill some personal goals. I haven't really seen him, but in that role he played as Count Olaf he was truly heartless.
An actor I like and admire, gestures and facial expressions tell a lot. Maybe he would have been a much bigger actor in the silent cinema era than he is now, and it would be interesting to watch him with his gestures alone.
True, Jim Carrey just with his gestures says it all, it would sure be a lot of fun.
