I wanna restart this community

in Manipulation Station19 days ago (edited)

We need some more fun things to do around here, especially at these prices.

and especially now that we have a cool service that can take care of the liquidation of rewards: @commentrewarder (although it's still running into some liquidity issues due to heavy usage I see xD)

I've yet to locate the key to this community :( so I can't change the community preference to make posts automatically send 90% of rewards to @commentrewarder, but maybe this can be done manually as a start and to check if there's enough interest to use the community.

Here's however some ways I could see it working!

The Fun version

Author shares a fun picture with us of something they believe could be a good model to photoshop/edit in various ways. They forfeit 90% of the rewards to @commentrewarder. Then based on the entries, they'd be in charge of rewarding the entries based on which ones they liked the most or which ones the community liked the most if they wanna wait for votes/replies to come in towards the entries.

Here's some examples to give you an idea of how this would work from previous posts and entries:

In one post I used this as the stock image:

and these were some of the entries in the comments, that shared the author rewards of the post:

and some more inside joke ones by @nonameslefttouse:

Either way, the idea is to have fun with it, be creative and some skills with editing may help but shouldn't take long to learn, some times the idea may be so good it outdoes any lack in skills one may have!

The more serious version

Then we may also have more serious requests where an author could offer their author rewards or additional tips based on requests of photoshopping efforts.

These could for instance be old photo's they'd like refurbished or fixed.
Maybe they'd want a certain random person in the background of an epic shot removed, etc.

Here it'd similarly work with curation and directing @commentrewarder tips to where effort and the wanted end results were generated.

The community may require some moderation, for one to make sure people are forfeiting most of the rewards to @commentrewarder but also to make sure they're not just giving them to friends or alt accounts even with better entries available, etc. It could also use some curation if the presented stock models deem worthy of being edited by the moderators/curators to encourage more peoeple to get involved.

Anyway, I think it'd be quite a solid idea, not to mention it could kill two big outside communities with one stone (/r/photoshopbattles and /r/photoshoprequests), where participants mostly just participate for useless karma points or a quick buck by the requester while 99% of other users in the comment section go empty-handed. Hive could change that.

Thoughts?

Nothing compared to your examples but hell here is something I whipped up in a couple of minutes xD

lol that's exactly the stuff that'd fit in the community!

Oh that sounds fun! It reminds me a Facebook group I seen some weeks ago where they post stuff like that

Haha yeah that'd be in the serious part of the community i guess. It could offer some people some small time gigs like we see on reddit, but here we could throw a little curation to #2, 3 etc as well which we don't see in other places.

I remember trying to revive that community a few years ago. I even posted something myself :P https://ecency.com/hive-122516/@incublus/manipulate-this-cute-cat-bu
There wasn't much participation, but it was fun.

Sounds like a photoshop contest. Those can be fun and get competitive. I seen it work on forums in different industry's as a stand-alone post. Once it gets too many entries or enough times passes and things get stale a new post is created to hold the new content. I think it would be hard to sustain a full community around such but who knows. I think it would work in conjunction or as one-off, reoccurring posts inside an existing community.

I like @commentrewarder but I think it all makes things even more complicated for the "average" user, so I'm not sure if that has potential to catch on at a larger scale. It's really hard for a product/ecosystem to compensate for a lack of clear messaging around USPs, and I'm afraid farming engagement like this will not turn things around.

Sure, @cr may be a bit complicated for newbies.

Not sure what you mean with engagement farming however, this would require people to do something before presenting it to the original poster which could make posts fun to read for others. It's kind of like a service in a way with gamified rewards rather than the usual "author earns 99% of the rewards while comments get nothing if they even exist to begin with".

I hope this works out, but sadly I don't think things translate as well from legacy social media over to here. For whatever reason. I'm in a couple of grilling and smoking communities on Facebook that have hundreds of thousands of members. I created a grilling and smoking community here on HIVE and it has maybe 40 members and none of them are posting actively. I guess since this isn't long form content it could be more accessible to people.

Myeah, it's tough to compare to outside of hive, especially giants that already have billions of users. We are pioneers in many ways.

Yes good point. It still gets to be depressing at times!

Yeah, it's taking a while for things to start rolling. Hopefully lite accounts will be beneficial here soon

Always saw this type of challenge on Facebook it's about time we have it here gonna be fun.

Let's do it! Initiatives are welcome!

I'll try get it started here soon!

A little fun is always ideal for being innovative. Every creative mind is a world of infinite possibilities, so it would be a good incentive to create something that becomes a trend and thus attracts new users to the platform.

How about we just stop spending money on things that don't make a return and actually bring monetary value back. That's more fun then anything else.

It's author rewards-based. Considering how many authors just post and do nothing else all day yet continue to get votes thrown at them, I don't think this would do a lot of damage.

You may wanna support @poshtoken however, that one proves to bring some value back to our posts if shared properly outside of hive - if that's what you meant by bringing monetary value back - or dunno if you meant to place this comment somewhere else.

Mixing fun challenges with rewards seems a good method to get everyone involved ;)

I find it interesting; anything that promotes participation and provides distraction while the market normalizes is good.

Can it be retouched using AI? Is it allowed?

Congratulations @acidyo! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

Hive Power Up Day - December 1st 2025

It's good and fine so long as the participants are rewarded very well.

I like the idea of reviving this community; it gives opportunities to users whose content isn't valued on the blog. But you know, I don't know how to use Photoshop. I imagine it's an editing app. I don't have enough memory on my phone; it's a very old device. But I do know how to use Paint on my PC, so I could try it if it's possible to work with Paint. I'd be very happy to participate, friend.

The idea of getting rewards controls everything here. This could sound like a great idea but getting people to really participate actively might not translate to what is obtained in social m

I am new here, but I think this is great. The fun part of it actually and the turning one picture into thousands. Looks like a great idea. Will join the community asap as I will want to be part of it.

I think it's a great idea to have other communities available where I can participate, interact, and earn rewards. Thanks!

I'm in , The idea looks interesting.💪
