This question is an interesting one because we get to share our thoughts on what we think is needed to be done in our local areas.
ACTIONS THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN IN MY LOCAL AREA
FLOOD CONTROL
Yenagoa, bayelsa state is surrounded by water and during the wet season most areas tend to get flooded,and this have been going on for years.
This is an area that needs to be focused on, because each year flood chases people out of their homes and there are no good refuge system to sustain the people, who flood destroy their houses every year.
Schools are also affected by flood, and it makes the students to sit at home for half of the school year. This does not encourage the children to take their education seriously and it’s puts them behind the educational scheme.
If annual assessments are done by the government in my local area and other areas that are always affected by the flood, it would help the people to plan better than waking up one morning and they are surrounded by water. After the assessment the government should provide the local area with materials that can help to prepare for any flood disaster.
IMPROVE SECURITY
My local area is full of security issues where one can’t even sleep well at night, because you are scared that you might be robbed at anytime. I have experienced robbery both inside my house and outside in the streets and I still live with the trauma.
Since the government did not take actions about the insecurity issues, the community leaders came together and agreed on forming a vigilante group. Unfortunately one of the vigilante was killed by armed robbers. After this incident the vigilante group stopped working, because they did not have enough resources to protect the community.
The community needs to be provided with government security arm-forces who will protect the community both day and night to help secure the life and property of the people in my local area.
If the government can involve in the matter and provide security for the people in my area it will really solve a lot.
ELECTRICITY
We have been experiencing power outage in my local area for about a year and nothing has been done about it.
The government should intervene and help rectify the power issue, because the people who are appointed to manage the funds which are used to pay electricity bill embezzle them. This has made the electricity bill debt beyond the capacity of the community.
Not only that the debt owed is much, the transformer which ought to supply light to the community is faulty for about a year and has not been repaired ever since.
The government should intervene and help my community by providing a new transformer, it will be a way forward to restoring the power supply in my community.
