Can Brazil Nuts Prevent Rapid Amazon Deforestation?

in ecoTrain • 5 years ago

Brazil Nuts 🥜🌰 are one solution to preventing the rapid deforestation in the Amazon🌲🌳 a whopping 65% of the Amazon rainforest was destroyed in 2019 😭

Brazil nuts make the forest worth more standing than cut since they cannot be commercially cultivated and only grow in virgin forest, this is because they are dependent on several animal species for their survival.

The Brazil nut trees (Bertholletia excelsa) grow as high as sky scrapers and local Amazonian tribes people go and collect the fallen nuts from the forest floor which are then sold to businesses.

The Brazil nut is desirable since it is known as the happy protein because it contains copious amounts of selenium which is good for brain health and fighting depression. Just one nut can provide you with your recommended daily allowance with is hard to find from other food sources.
