What is Beauty?

An interesting question!

These are my personal views on beauty.

Beauty is a concept. It is a name we give to something which pleases our sight, or something that warms our hearts. If the sight of the thing repulses us, we say the thing is ugly. But in itself, the thing is just a thing. It is neither beautiful nor ugly.

Since beauty is only a concept, and an abstract one, we all have our own definition of what constitutes beauty. This is because we are all different, and our perception differs. As such, whatever one has to say about beauty, they are not wrong. It is his own personal perception and personal view.

Generally, when people talk about beauty, they refer to the physical aspects of a thing, or person. This type of beauty is superficial, and oftentimes skin deep.

Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It’s about having a pretty mind, a kind heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul. Search for a beautiful heart, not a beautiful face. Beautiful people are not always good, but good people are always beautiful. Rarely do great beauty and great virtue dwell together. They say the more beautiful the serpent, the more fatal its sting.

Unfortunately, in present day society, people are often deluded that beauty is goodness. So much so, that sometimes people take personal beauty as a greater recommendation than any letter of reference. Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.

It’s ordinary to love the beautiful, but it’s beautiful to love the ordinary. Beauty is everywhere. If you look closely, all of nature has its beauty. It helps if you look with wonder and beauty in your eyes. Beauty is not only in the eyes of the beholder, beauty has to be in the beholder. The more beauty the beholder has, the more beauty he or she sees in things.

To be beautiful means to be yourself. What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful. You don’t need to be accepted by others to be beautiful. You just need to accept yourself. Be comfortable in your own skin, knowing and accepting yourself for who you are. Be your own kind of beautiful.

Character and behaviour also contribute to beauty. So does conduct, humility and integrity. How you carry yourself, how you treat others.... all these add up to make a person beautiful. Beauty without grace is the hook without the bait. Besides, beauty fades eventually, but a kind soul remains forever.

Anyone who takes the time to be kind is beautiful. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.

Dear @hivewatchers,

For someone who prided himself as an honest and upright person, it hurts my pride to think that there might be people who think I am a selfish, self-serving plagiarist.

I was under the impression that I can use information from elsewhere as long as it is less than 30% of the content of the post. Obviously, I was mistaken.

Having read through your guide “Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise”, I realised where my mistake was. It is - I should have credit the source even if it was just a couple of lines. For this, I humbly apologise for not having realised it earlier. I shall bear that in mind from here on.

I hope that I will be fogiven for not knowing better before. I will strive to be more conscientious and not make the same mistake.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Yours Sincerely!

P.S.

I have been collecting quotes since my school days - almost 50 years!. I have a huge collection of them. They are all on my blog at Blogger https://anetizen.blogspot.com/

In those days, there were no internet. I collected them from 'Reader's digest', (if you are old enough to know this magazine), books, mazagines - wherever I came across them.

All the quotes from the 'What is Beauty' post is from my own blog.
