First Contest for the Ladies of Hive

The Ladies of Hive Community

is hosting a contest with great prizes!

The First Contest

The contest questions for this week are:

What was the last thing you used in
the house?

Or

Where did you meet your significant other?

Or

If you would get 100 dollars now, what would be the first thing you would do with that amount?

The 'last thing I used in my house' question would probably get the same answer from me no matter what day I chose to answer that question.

My phone

As lockdown continues and Covid continues to spread here in Wisconsin, my phone has come to represent my social life. Of course I use it to connect with all my Hive friends, but I also depend on it to stay connected with my kids and grandkids and 'watch' our favorite sporting events together. F1 races are always a great reason to meet up with them on the weekends and last nights Green Bay Packers game brought a steady flurry of Whatsapp messages! The Packers beat the Saints.

💚🏈💛

My Kindle is probably my 2nd most used thing in my home, so when I take a break from holding my phone to allow my fingers to uncramp, I usually switch to reading a book. Right now I am reading The Body in the Castle Well: A Mystery of the French Countryside (Bruno Chief of Police Book 12) after reading all 12 books I feel like I know these characters quite well!

I am so glad that Hive fits my reading addiction so well!

For the part of the contest that requires an invitation to another Lady, I would like to invite my good friend @deerjay.

What? You consider yourself a Lady of Hive and you haven't joined yet? I'd love to see you there!

Hive Power Up Day - Let's grow together!

I think we are all touching our phones at the end of the day. I have been, however, trying to make a physical book the last thing. I use to read a physical book before cellphones had screens, but now they have everything. I do hope they come out with a dishwasher app for them someday!

Nice post! Good luck with the contest.

Thanks! A dishwasher app! Load, unload, put away in cupboards. Where is the dev that can create that one!

I can se relate to the thing that social media in whatever way has become social life ... only for me this happened way before the lockdown.

"What was the last thing you used in the house?"
Darn, that changes every 15 to 45 minutes except when I'm napping.

Significant Other? Ain't going there.

Which leaves me....

And I can't wait to hear!

Haaa that's funny cause the last thing I do every night (morning..) after I shut down my computer, is to get into bed then jump on my phone to keep doing exactly the same thing that I was doing on my computer! 😂🙄

That book series sounds really good. I love countryside mysteries, especially if they're set in a different period and I love ghosty mystery stories like that that too.

I am so sorry to hear that you guys- all over the US are having such a devastating time with not only the pandemic, but also all of the natural disaters happening over there too.

It's been a real shocker of a year for the entire world, but I think that you guys, aswell as India and Brasil are really copping it, cause you've all had so many natural disasters to deal with too, which has made it sooo much tougher and created sooo much more illnesses....

And no for you- especially there in the mid west, you guys are just about to get blasted by massive snowfalls too aren't you?

Actually that brings me too a question. Cause I know that you guys up there in the northern sates have really shocking winters with so much snow, how do the poor old cows cope?

This has been an insane year, for sure.

Folks in the north are used to coping with snow and ice. We have the necessary clothing and gear to survive the cold temps, and drive vehicles that can manage on bad winter roads. We have road crews with equipment that keep the roads open. It takes a truly massive storm for things to be shut down for very long. I have a natural gas fireplace that can provide heat in the event that we would loose electrical power during a snowstorm.

But cows? Don't get me started on the massive industrial farms that milk their 1000's of cows 3 times a day and never let them go outdoors. There are still some real dairy farms left, although the mega farms are driving them out of business. In the winter the cows are provided shelter with plenty of warm bedding and kept in fenced areas near the milking barns and fed hay and grain until the grass starts to grow in the spring and they can be turned out onto pasture again. They are valued animals and well taken care of.

Yeah I thought that the humans would be able to handle it for the most part cause you guys are so used to it. I just have this feeling that this year is going to be far worse and maybe even record breaking and in not a good way either- like so many other weather patterns have been doing around the world of late....😬

So you say that the corporate factory farm value and take care of the coes or the real farmer does.

I know that the corporations only see $$$ signs in their milking machines...but I wouldn't think that they cared too much about their welfare, unlike the real dairy farmer that you and I both know.

Oh, I've read that corporate farms have drones that fly around in the mammoth facilities where these poor mama cows are treated so badly.

I think of my uncles dairy farm where each of his cows had names.

There is no comparison.

I will be well stocked up and prepared for whatever winter brings. I hope!

Yes that's right- there really is no comparison and unfortunately those factories give the smaller family farmer such bad reputations, not to mention the loss of profits and such...

And when did the word factory ever become synonymous with farm.

They are just disgusting people that own them and run them. They must be to be able to knowingly and intentionally treat cows like metal machines. Actually I imagine that they treat their metal machines better than the cows....

Good luck with that winter, I'm not looking forward to it for you!!!

Mind you, it's 14c here today and tomorrow it's supposedly going to hit 28c and 28's not that hot, but to go from one extreme to the other like that....

The weather is becoming more and more worrisome, that's for sure. I hope your summer heat is not extreme.

The way those poor cows are treated gives me nightmares. It is beyond evil.

Absolutely yes to both....

I'm in total sync with you on this one, Melinda! That darn smartphone is the last thing I touch at night (usually to set the morning alarm) and the first thing I grab in the morning -- along with my eyes.👓

After reading your post I had to Google to see if our nearest library resumed its hours after being closed for Covid-19 and was pleased to see they are, as well as now offering curbside service. That works for me! I'm one of those people who will forever enjoy tactile reading over "soft" ebooks. It's all good!📖🔖📚

Have a terrific Wednesday!💫

Happy Wednesday!

What kind of books do you enjoy reading? My left hand does not work properly and I was constantly dropping the book and losing my place whenever I went to turn the page. Getting a Kindle solved that problem for me and has allowed me to continue reading. Plus I can make the font as big as I want! Another problem solved! My bookshelves are over full of old friends and I love loaning out my books to anyone who expresses an interest. Nothing compares to a real book, but I sure love my Kindle and I can borrow library books and never leave my comfy chair!

Hmmm, my phone is the last thing I used in the house, because when Thirdy is already asleep, it is my "me time." And it's usually to blog and catch up with Hive friends. I also do my Bible reading in my phone. So yes, my phone is the last. Haha! 😁

That's a universal one I think, as one is always picking it up to check messages. I decided to go with the $100 dollar. Thanks for sharing your choice. Take care and have a nice weekend.
