When it comes to relationships the contribution of both the partner are equally important. They tend to show and fulfill their responsibility for each other. However when it comes to living a longer life. It has always been observed than Men have a shorter life than Women.
There could be so many theories around the real causes. Some people belive that it is because the age of women is generally lessor than that of men when they get into the relationship. In India, this really happens as people tend to marry a girl who is atleast 2 years younger than him. Or may be more. Not sure what could be the real reason behind it but mostly this thing happen as a married couple the female partner is younger than the male counterpart.
Coming back to the real cause of women having a longer life, I belive,there could be many possibilities. Many belive it could be the physical aspect of men over women, or many would belive that, It has something to do with the emotional and sentimental aspect of women. There could be many myths as well. Men are bread winners & take most of responsibilities on his head. That invites loads of health problems in his life. So a shorter life. But on the other hand, a women goes through some serious labor pain during pregnancy then why she able to survive easily.?
In my opinion, A Man cannot survive for long without his woman because Men are emotionally weaker but Woman can live without her Man, so the nature crucial plays its role in the survival of both Men and Women.
If we do some deep study into the aspect of Men and Women, then we may comes up with many attributes of women which are more likely make them superior over Men. Some of the most common reasons include:
Immunity factor is one of the major reason. Biologically, a Women generally have a stronger immune system than men.
It has always been noticed and ovserved that, Women are more likely to engage in healthy lifestyle behaviors, such as exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet etc.
Women does not get addicted to risky habbits such as smoking or drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.
Women have a power of emotions. A women don’t mind showing their emotional side. While opposite tonit, Men suffer a lot internally causing stress.
- Hormonal and biological differences between men and women may also play a pivotal role in their lifespan.
There could be many possibilities, while Men has always considered to be the bread earner, they take a loads of toll on their body and mind. While a women always considered to be homemaker does not need to take much toll on her body. And lives a life as per her own way. May be I am wrong in my observation, but certainly, I like to get an answer that could give a genuine response. @ladiesofhive is the perfect place to get an answer. And hopefully I will get a variety of opinion from esteemed members.

I too, have generally heard this. However, our world is changing and men are not always the breadwinners any longer. Even if they are, we women face plenty of stress in our daily lives, as a lot of us work outside the home.
Just las week, my neighbor and close friend literally was walking down the sidewalk in town and collapsed and died. It's sad. She left her husband and grown children behind. I have my suspicions as to the true cause of death although they will term it as natural causes and no autopsy will be performed. It's just sad, is all.
Anyway, I think as time marches on, you might see this change a little. I do believe you are correct; men do not tend to air their emotions the way women do. Stress is a huge factor, I'm sure.

Thanks for giving a much needed insight on my thought...sad to hear your neighbour's loss...nowadays the risk of heart attack are at large...so may be many people are affected with it ..the emotional aspect does seems to be valid to me to the reason women lives longer. But let see...how community tend to answer this....we might get more viewpoint.

Based on my observation, nowadays men and women have the same activities in life.
One thing is men are superior if we talk about strength. They are stronger than women.
For sure men have the added advantages as far as strength is concerned but that means they need to live more than their counterpart.
Yes you are absolutely right.
That's the major reason, I believe.
Moreover, I believe, as men have the ability to reproduce for a longer period of time and women can not so 'nature' designed us in such a way to make a balance. Also, in later life, women can be a caretaker of the family (peace of mind for the offspring that they at least have one beside them).

Too confusing to get into a possible answer...if they have the ability to reproduce then why don't they live longer.
From my understanding, that will create kind of a chaos and imbalance. Having too much offspring ( known and unknown), increased divorce rate because they can access other options later, etc. But that's only my way of thinking, just another reason of million others. So it doesn't have to be true.
Edit: For example, if the spouse pass away many men can't stay single and support his children but remarry, even in old age and reproduce. That literally ruins his previous family (property distribution). I'm not judging here but this is what it is.
It's just an example but this is what eventually would be for majority of the men if they live long. Hahaha....
