We have an orange day, as there is a big fire in the mountains that started two days ago.
So, I will show you the effect of huge trees, strong winds and fierce flames that we have on our side of the mountains.
We cannot see the fire, but it has given us orange skies.
You will see our view of the mountains and the sea in this post.
Come and look.
That's the sun up there as the fire clouds started to cover it.
Look how quickly the clouds ran along the mountain range.
Here you can see the front of the clouds as they fanned across the sky.
When a tree this size explodes the wind will carry sparks of flames far around and other fires will start up.
And now we will look at the effect of the orange sky on the sea!
Ever seen an ocean that looks like mud?
This is the sun below one of the street lamps.
And the orange fire clouds continued to spread towards the horizon.

Slowly covering the blue skies above the sea.
This is what we are worried about, as that fire can run in the winds at speed and it can engulf the hill slopes in a flash.
An alert was sent out to all of the homesteads in a 10 kilometer range around the fire to be prepared, as our wind directions change frequently and the fire can race off in different directions. We heard a warning on the radio that people should keep their pets inside and remove their cars under trees.
The fire teams worked through the night and through the whole of today to try and contain the spread of the fire and let's hope that the wind will give them a break.

We pray that you will never see such a fire Hannes. It is really devastating and if you Google the "Jonkershoek fire" you will see what I mean.

Actually, I forgot that we have experienced such big fires a couple of years ago during a vacation in Croatia.
The fires were everywhere and they were huge. We have been quite close, so that we could even hear it burning, but we have stayed close to the beach and have never been in danger.
For us tourists it was spectacular, but not for the people there. Although they are used of having fires from time to time, it's always bad and sad.

Oh yeah, so you know what I am talking about regarding the destruction of the fires.
Overnight the damaged lad count has almost doubled to 13,600 acres of destroyed veld.
In the one paper they show a Baboon sitting forlorn on the ashes.

Yeah, but this was the only big fire I have seen, and as said, there was no danger for us.
It's always sad that animals lose their home or life - the fire is most times faster.

Oh yeah, fire can be really scary Hannes and when it comes close, one can only grab a few things and run. So many here have lost their entire homes, cars and everything that they have ever owned.
There was a devastating fire near Plettenberg Bay a few years (June 2017) ago and many very expensive mansions were burnt to ashes.
I posted about it at the time.
The rain thankfully restores the homes of the animals, those that do not die in the rushing flames, but sadly human life can never be restored.
I just wish that people would take more care when they build fires in nature. Especially here where the high winds can change direction in a matter of seconds.

As long as people don't care for nature and for others they will suffer from their own errors. Of course, there are more innocent people among the guilty ones, and most times the guilty ones are not harmed at all - that's sad and I feel sorry for that.
