Insomnia and me

me.jpg

Hey there!
I'm all wide-eyed and bushy tail hair, listening to music at 02:30 AM. I'm playing random songs on youtube, from pop, reggae, R&B, and whatever comes along. When a music video that I like comes on, I pause to watch it... then I come back to type.
The track playing now is #Sugar by Maroon 5. Why am I doing this? Insomnia, my on-and-off friend, visits me and keeps me company. Insomnia (aka superwoman the fucking bitch from hell) is so powerful; She tries to control me, but I don't let her. Simply because I know that insomnia is a selfish friend, who desperately tries to drain my energy and make me feel weak. When she's around, I ignore her and listen to some of my favourite tunes to drown out insomnia's presence.
Oh, #DeepRiverWoman, Lionel Ritchie plays now. I love this song. The river is my favourite body of water. I love to watch the river flow, it's like it's saying let it go.

Sometimes the water flows with great force
Like a rush of strong emotions
At other times, it's silent and calm
Perfect for decision-making
Observing the calm
Letting things be

Oops, my adopted cat just burst through the door straight up to where she sees me focused. Say hi to Bob.

bob2.jpg

She's interrupting my typing on purpose.
Insomnia and Bob are plotting against me.

Bob's moody, mild-natured and sweet. She greets me first thing every morning as I wake up, and then she leads me to her bowl; I reach for a pack of her Whiskers, and she rubs her head around my ankles. That makes me smile:)

bob1.jpg

I think the cat is meditating so I'll not disturb her. Well, she was gone. I guess she likes being active at night too, but I can't play with her tonight...

#TakeItEasyOnMe, Adele plays. I love her music, but man, she gives me a stalking vibe. You know...

"Hello, it's me. I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet to go over everything."👀

... and now her creepier one #SomeoneLikeYou...

Gosh, I better skip... ok, a better one is on.

Yes, much better; Lenny Kravitz #ThePleasureandthePain, ooh I love Lenny. He's just so fucking sexy and "the" individualist. I admire that. I love listening to his tracks, back-to-back. I have phases when I listen to nothing but Kravitz. His songs speak of love sex, pleasure, pain, laughter, and life; His lyrics are raw and real!

#TurnYourLightsDownLow, Bob Marley. I think this is the right kind of vibe I need now. This song is making me conquer Insomnia. Now, I'm gonna tip-toe and curl up with hubby. I sleep on the right side of the bed on my left side. I'm easygoing, but that's one particular thing that I must have. Hubby then snuggles up behind me, and then I hear his loud snoring...

I'm always armed with these.

airplugs.jpg

... But I can still hear the loud snoring...oh before I go, do you know that all earplugs are not equal?

Take a good look at these. I specialise in earplugs.

The one on the right is crap, the ones in the middle are a little better, and the ones on the left, are my prized possession. They are my last pair and I'm gonna order a pack of 50. Do you notice the shape?... and they are 39db noise cancelling and amazing.

Are you struggling to sleep too, or just waking up?

Good night or good morning, until next time 😍

Sort:

Music is my remedy for insomnia. If I can't sleep, I'll put on my headset and play instrumental music with raindrops background.. It helps me fall asleep.. I just set the timer to an hour so it'll automatically turn off. By then, I'm already wandering in the dreamland.

Hey, that's amazing! I do listen to relaxing music on Spotify, sometimes. I have all those relaxing mood channels that I tune into... but not last night! I just didn't want to sleep... My physical energy had me doing the shimmy to the tunes, despite the fact that my mental energy was at zero. I don't know how I managed to type that post. I thought, well, this will be an absolute shit post, but everyone will pardon me. I was still up till 04:00AM and I struggled to sleep in till 09:00 this morning and stayed in bed till 10:00AM.

Tonight, I'll tune into relaxation music, as I do know better 🙃

I envy those who can stand to stay up until 4 am.. My eyes probably are already hurting by that time hehe.. You should listen to relaxing music more often. I downloaded some so I can play them anytime.

I probably should do that, so I can listen to music while I do my exercises in the woods, and not use up my data 👍

Ha ha ha :))... It's a charming post @millycf1976 friend, but first I want to say that Bob is charming 😻... The issue of insomnia is somewhat complicated, many in my family suffer from it, even years ago I suffered from it. But I must confess that my changes in eating habits and daily meditation have helped me a lot, as have taking long walks taking photos. However, I also use earplugs, I use them made of silicone, the kind used by swimmers, they are very effective. But I use them because I live in the center of town and sometimes there is noise in the streets at night (I usually fall asleep between 8 and 9 PM, so many people are active)... These earplugs even help me to isolate myself from conversations of the people in my house, because I sleep long before they do... Also, lately I've become very sensitive to noise. One of the things I like about using earplugs is that I can listen to my breathing and take the opportunity to quickly fall asleep while repeating a mantra... That is something that has been very effective for me... But what has made me laugh at It's a lot to read that your husband snores!! :))... Well, my wife says the same thing about me and I'm sure she snores too!... We've even gone so far as to record ourselves to "protest"!... ha ha ha. .. But those are the beautiful things in life!... You look magnificent in that photo, it is a photo that transmits energy due to the direct look at the camera, the smile and the very good edition in black and white!... Nice portrait!... Thanks fort sharing, hugs to all in home!...

Well, my wife says the same thing about me

Haha! Yeah, I realise that my husband is oblivious to the fact that I struggle to fall asleep next to a loud engine at my ears.👹
Sometimes I shake the bed to disrupt him, but then he pauses and then snores louder like a horn. He tells me that occasionally I snore too 😆
I've suffered from insomnia for years and I finally got it under control, but now and then it goes out of wack.
I was wide awake, and he told me that I came to bed at 5:00 AM... Tonight will be my normal time about 11 pm (oh, I have a bedtime alarm, you know 😆)... So at 10:45 PM, my phone reminds me that my bedtime is coming up in 15 minutes.

Nice portrait!

Thank you 😊

You do snore, admittedly not as loud as me as I often wake myself up snoring to be fair

Im bot a great sleeper but when I read I fall right to sleep. I can't read at night if I don't want to fall asleep on the couch Lol.
Do you wake up early or sleep in?

By the way the whole "people need 8 hours of sleep each night" is a myth. That number is based on averages. There are a lot of studies that suggest 5-12 hours of sleep are considered normal. The main important thing is whether or not a person wakes up feeling refreshed or not. The number of hours of sleep isn't really important unless the person wakes up feeling tired or does not have enough energy. Sometimes people get caught up in thinking that they aren't getting enough sleep because they don't sleep as long as the suggested norm, but they may actually be getting plenty of sleep for their particular needs.

You did mention that insomnia leads to low energy for you though so maybe youre not... ?

By the way the whole "people need 8 hours of sleep each night" is a myth.

I agree!

My husband needs shorter sleep than me. 5 hours and he's good. In our early years of marriage, if I didn't get 7, or ideally 8 hours of sleep, then he would have to fear for his life.

Since we returned to the Uk 2 years ago, I function well on 5 hours of sleep.

I'm an early riser.
I sleep with an eye mask, and once I sense any form of light, I need to get out of bed.

My behaviour/reaction/attitude without sleep has taken a 360-degree turn.

Now,

I smile
I'm pleasant
I'm safe to be around
I even laugh at jokes.

It's a new me!!! 😆

Yeah sleep cycles seen to change over time as we age and depending on our activity levels (physical, emotional and mental).

My behaviour/reaction/attitude without sleep has taken a 360-degree turn.

A new you every time you wake up 😂

I've heard this as well and knew someone who only needed 4 to 5 hours sleep a night.

Lucky bastard! So many more hours of the day to get stuff done.

He did cat nap during the day though. Hah. Which is why Bob's also up at night. Just got that reference now. Clever.

Reading before sleeping is a great idea! 👍🏻

There are some nice yoga techniques based on relaxation and breathing.
Sahavasana is the position where I usually make attendees of my yoga lessons to relax after the yoga practice and the same position (laying on the back, open arms, hand-palms looking upwards) can be used for deep relaxation to sleep.
Clearing the mind and deep breathes are then the tool to relax the mind as well the body.

I love such yoga techniques. Some of them are proven to be helpful for anxiety and panic attacks as well.

Hello, thank you. Yes, Sahavasana is excellent for relaxation and breathing. I do a lot of breathwork, but every once in a while, I might lose my sleep rhythm. It can be anything from a full moon, or noise (like a snoring partner, or light) that will cause me to stay up. Over the last five years, after practising yoga and Qigong, I have been good at switching off, breathing, and relaxing which have improved my life drastically:)

In such case, keep it doing. Our body need some time to purify and some consistence to build up results

Yes, I could not agree with you more:)
Cheers 🥂

Oh I like Lenny Kravitz and Bob Marley, but they are NOT my choice when it comes to fall asleep?
My trick ist, hearing a meditation. That works. All the time. Mostly they tell you to sit and not sleep. So I lie down, hehe and soon sleep. They tell, that you can use the snoring like a meditation bell, well I dont believe this works.
Looking back at times I was no single, the snoring of my partner war sooooo nice and calming the first time. Haha. Then it got nervy ;-)
!HUG and sleep well

Dear @millycf1976, you just got hugged.
I sent 1.0 HUG on behalf of @beeber.
(2/2)

You're right! Lenny and Bob are not the best choices for sleeping 😆
Yeah, I normally have my usual sleeping remedies of breathing into a square or also meditative sound and music. I'll tune into some tonight.

However, there's nothing remotely meditative about snoring. YES, it makes me nervy, and I'm a naturally calm person.
I'll see what tonight brings;-)

Breathing into a square? I will Google this :-)

Yeah, it works like magic... I do that as part of my Qigong:-)

I see, but holding breath longer as I would itself always makes me nervous
But it is similar to heart coherence breath wich I love. In count to 4. Just wait the moment breath restarts naturaly Out count to 4. And so on.
And Center to the heart :-)

Yeah, tbh, when I do the breathing into the square thing, I kind of find myself doing more the heart coherence breath, which I've never heard of.
That's interesting. I'll look that up:-)

I struggle to do a yogic breathing in a wave though.

Yoga wave? :-) ah I am happy to breathe in the asanas ;-)
Had a great old App on my old phone with a ball in and decreasing and sound also. Could adjust the lenght of sequencies
Hmmm have to look if it works on the new phone too

Good night from here :-)

😆 funny you.

Nice comment! Loads of character in it. 💗

I have to admit that I would never be able to sleep without some of that green stuff. Green tea of course 😄

Green tea of course 😄

🙃😆😉

I also don't wanna boast, but I met Lenny Kravitz backstage during a live TV show in France that I was doing at the time, since then I like to say that we "shared the same stage" 😃

(Also) I don't wanna talk shit, but he was clearly drunk, and I am not saying this because he ignored my handshake, okay?

Hehe 😉 I really didn’t know that we had such a dear friend in common 💤💤💤✨💤🛌😴😴😴😃🥱🥱🥱

Yes, she's a bitch from hell!
untitled.gif

Oh, dear… it’s difficult, obviously when the sleeplessness visits you. Music is definitely something to keep your mood up. Sometimes movies or series can help a bit, but I don’t know if they will work on you.

I have a different type of sleepless nights. My body and soul sleep, but the kids keep on waking up and coming to me with different problems. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Luckily the little lady sleeps at nights, for now, and I hope she will be the calm sleeper baby. 😁

Wish you all the best!

My husband does movies and series when he's restless, and he goes down a rabbit hole. I prefer to listen to music and watch music videos.
My body's triple heater is unbalanced and I need to do some Qigong to get back on track...

I'm glad that your little girl is doing well, and I've seen how big and mature your boys are. It's amazing how fast they grow:)

It looks like you really captured Bob just as he was meditating, the pose he's in is kind of on command. He's really cute, that kitty.

If you want to beat the insomnia, try this:

Take a deep breath in and as you exhale mentally say 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 off. You should repeat this several times

I once read that it is very effective, although I have not yet had a chance to check it out because I am a sleep expert, rather I am looking for a formula to not sleep so much.

Rather I am looking for a formula to not sleep so much.

Haha! I admire great sleepers. I've never been a sound sleeper at all. As a little girl, whenever I took a day nap, which was rare, I would be disoriented for hours. It took me a long time to understand how time had passed and whether it should be night or morning. 😅

Yes, that breathing technique works. I suffered from Insomnia badly and have always refused to take medication for it. Deep breathing techniques are the only thing that has ever really helped... what you mentioned above. Still, now and then I have one of two nights when my energy is supercharged, and just no force strong enough to make me sleep. 😂

and just no force strong enough to make me sleep

This seems somewhat paradoxical 😆

I get the feeling that you have a love-hate relationship with insomnia 🤔

Listening to music is a good therapy to avoid insomnia. I see that you have become an expert in earplugs. I hope insomnia or insomnia will stay away from you and you will have sweet dreams. Regards.

Yes, I've tried all kinds of earplugs and have been sleeping with them religiously for over 15 years now. I can't sleep without earplugs, so I always know where my passport and my earplugs are 😆

Insomnia definitely gives one a chance to post! But I do hope she won't ruin your days, keep on ignoring her!

No, I won't let insomnia ruin my day at all... as long as it's not for a prolonged period, I'll be fine. I think I'll be back on track soon 😊

Awesome :) But definitely keep posting - how did a girl end up with a name like Bob???

!LUV

Yeah, man! I'll always keep posting 😁

I call her Bobbi... She's the funniest cat. She sits at the door and waits for someone to open it for her, although she has the cat flap that only she can enter (no other cat).
I've never met a "people person" like Bob.
She's not an animal lover at all! She HATES cats, and she's not fond of dogs either.

Will she be going home with you???

Oh, I have no idea. I'll know when that time comes:)

Yes you will know :) Just enjoy her ♥️

Hey! It's okay to experience insomnia sometimes. I also faced it twice or thrice in a weak. I choose to read book that time. Bob is really cute 🥰 sending and hugs for both of you.

Thanks for your comforting words. I will have to force myself to sleep in... That will be a harder task... Bob is gonna come crying 😆

Hi, Bob! 😸 I am a night owl by nature. If I see the sunrise, it's because I didn't get to sleep before then!

Haha! My problem is that I'm a night owl AND an early riser 🤣

Ok, joke aside... I just cannot sleep tonight ... it's 03:47 AM 😬🙃

and Bob thinks I'm up late to play with her 😼

2 AM here as of this comment. Time to try to sleep!

I bet insomnia is prodding you on...

untitled.gif

last year, almost a year I always sleep above 12 at night. It makes it hard for me to get up in the morning.

I hope you have better sleeping patterns now:)

I hope you can also overcome the insomnia you experience. Cheers, sisters.

Yeah, I'm a fighter, I will!💪
Cheers!

I focus on your photos. Sister, you look beautiful. I like your hair.

Thank you!😊
Every day is a bad hair day for me. If ever I have a good hair day, I'll alert the media. 😆

no, sister. You look beautiful with that hair. I like it. I'm being completely honest.
