I've spent some time in doctors rooms and hospitals recently and none of it has been all that pleasant...but I'm not fucken dead - galenkp
That's me applying perspective I guess, the it could be worse, mindset, that helps me work through problems and challenges no matter what they are and to push them towards becoming opportunities instead. It's not always effective, sometimes problems are just problems and they go badly, but by seeing them differently, applying perspective and the positivity that comes from doing so, more often improves the situation over the results that come from a negative mindset and attitude and that's worth it right?

It works for most problems whether health related, relationships, workplace or social and general life issues and I think also for mental health issues that seem to be increasing exponentially. Looking at a thing with perspective can open one to new thoughts and options that may have not present themselves before and when one or more of those gain traction other things follow...attitude and action, or maybe action then attitude, and that's when things start to progress (hopefully) to a satisfactory resolution or a situation that is, at worst, more tenable than that which previously existed.
Most of the medical rooms I've been in are typically clinical; white, devoid of personality, passionless and pragmatic. There's machines that go beep, medical staff that approach their work with professional efficiency and very little to bring comfort but there's one room that offers a splash of colour, personality and interest that always leaves me thinking about life a little more keenly; you can see a photo I took of the painting in this post. I like this room, at least as much as one can like a medical room.
It's not the most technically correct painting but, like my professional artist father used to say, there is no bad art, just art, and this one always helps me to find some perspective when I'm in an otherwise cold and dispassionate room. I think art is working as it is supposed to if it makes people feel and this one, in the situation I'm in when I see it, certainly does that.
I can't quantify the benefit applying perspective has had on my life but I'd say it's been a huge factor in helping me deal with certain happenings externally and how those things have effected me internally which, in turn, effects what I push outwards in turn. It's been a very important aspect of my life and I can't imagine my life without the application of perspective.
How do you feel applying or failing to apply perspective to your own life has gone for you and what effects, positive or negative, has it had on you either way? Feel free to comment if you'd like to open up and if not that's ok too.

Hi Galen, I'm sorry to hear that you've had a bad time with your health, I hope everything is getting better. About the quote, I think it is excellent. I share its meaning. When a difficulty arises I try to stop and reflect on why that situation arises in my life. And try to draw lessons. I think the difficult thing about complicated moments is not to find a meaning in them, but to stop and reflect. A hug
Thanks mate, I'm not dead yet so it's all good...well, not all good, but you know what I mean, it could be worse. I'm ok, will work through things as deal with whatever comes along. I'm hard to kill and have a way of getting back up all the time when knocked over.
I like what you said about difficult/complicate times; reflecting on them, which often puts them into perspective, means we are better equipped to work with them or around them and that brings better results.
I am sure that we will still enjoy each other for many years to come. A hug
I think so too, and afterwards...I might hang around as a ghost for a while as well. 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm going to work with a smile on my face, have a great day, greetings
Happy to give you a laugh...I hope your day is a good one, I've just finished work (and will not work late like normal) so I'm looking forward to a nice night off.
Take care.
When I was diagnosed with cancer, it could have been very easy to just crawl into a hole. I knew I should have a lot of time ahead of me though and giving up wasn't really an option. Zooming out and looking at the big picture is always the best bet, but sometimes the waiting for it to become clear can be a real pain!
It's a tough situation really, the negativity of it applies pressure and that has effects, and then the flip side of injecting positivity to the situation pulls in the otter direction. Somewhere in the middle is where one wants to end up I guess, leaning toward the positive if possible.
The big picture is a good focus though, as you say, and that can help the process along in better directions. Waiting for results...never a good time however.
I agree with you and your writing was like click to me. I remember writing about it in my blog when I took part in a contest from the communities, about a problem or unpleasant condition that befalls us, then what should we do so that the situation does not get worse. I have anxiety and have experienced panic attacks and there I have learned, the key is our thoughts and our perspective, you are right. When I experienced that situation, I said to myself, to my mind, everything will be fine, and I have been through this situation. I used to wonder if I was going to die, but now I can ward off those thoughts and I say to myself oh, I'm not going to die because this is nothing, I know that.
Looking for something positive from the many negative things that exist, that has a very big impact. When the thoughts and words we utter are good and positive, then the results are good and vice versa, when everything we see is bad and negative then what comes out is bad things or negative. It all depends on us to determine the results.
:)
Our thoughts and perspective...exactly! The only way to get through a tough situation is to keep going, Winston Churchill said that and I agree with it. Giving up won't get a person through and adding positivity, as you point out, will have strong effects on the eventual outcomes.
At the end though, we are responsible, and need to act accordingly as you said so well.
Yesss, Sir! true
Thanks for sharing and reminding :)
Still trucking 💪
I'm not so smart emotionally, and mentally I have struggled in the past. I remember thinking, amongst other things... be braver than your dad (checked out himself), do you want to live, are there things you want to live for?
I'm not sure I can be any lower than this time, so everything these days is more of a bump in the road.
Keep well sir!
Those are great questions, the why do I want to be around, for sure, what things are important enough to stick around. I think that's one of the most important things a person can ask themselves at any point in life. Why.
I know so many who have checked out and I wonder how many asked that question (and answered honestly). I'll never know.
You're applying perspective which exactly the thing we all need to do; if we scratch the surface on it that perspective often reveals the why's.
Thanks for commenting, and I hope you have a great day bro.
I decided I wanted to be around (and to not disappoint) but knew I needed sunshine to help me relax and feel confident better days were ahead. Worth the move, and I don't ask myself why on this one!
Rest well :)
I remember your move to Mallorca, the thoughts behind it and some of the situations once there; we spoke at length on them. You've done well, come a long way (and deserve to) and that's all due to perspective, honest introspection and appraisal of yourself and through trail-breaking a way forward. Just my opinion based on the perspective I have from outside the situation. :)
Thanks dude. The support here from the likes of you and Taraz have helped a lot over the years. That's why I like this place, you can unburden and make a few $ at the same time :)
You're very welcome, it's been a pleasure.
Sometimes in life it is necessary to look at things from a different angle, especially when some decisions are made that can affect the lives of people in the environment.
We know that saying "You haven't been in other people's shoes...".
Change your perspective, look at it from a different angle, imagine yourself...
Almost every day I use a "technique" that helps me in various situations. When somebody ask me something that could be looked at from another angle, in order not to give a hasty answer, I say: "Give me five minutes, I'll let you know". So I move from my point of view and look at the situation from different sides. The answer is usually different from what I would give at the moment...
You've got a good handle on it, the process, which is good. I assume you get some great results because of it.
The result comes and goes, and what we conclude by shifting to another perspective, remains permanently in our memory.
I'm sorry for what has happened to your health, but you are strong and I know you can handle it and more. A warrior always comes out ahead!
I believe that diverse perspectives or points of view are one of the things that help the most when there are problems. Observe them from the outside, otherwise it helps you cope better.
I give you an example. When my aunt was diagnosed with cancer more than 5 months ago, it was a terrible situation and I said why on a trip, how terrible... but change the point of view, the perspective, because the situation is very serious. And I said if he had been in Argentina he would have already died, but here he had all the necessary attention and he is still fighting, I tell myself: It must be for some reason. And it is true that I changed my way of thinking and the stress, the tremendous stress that I suffered at the beginning was less...
Stepping back and looking in perspective helps you see things better.
Hug Galen
Perspective is one of those game-changer things that the sooner one understands how to find and apply it the sooner one can lead a better life and achieve better results. I think you'll agree.
I totally agree, the sooner people realize this, the better their quality of life will be. It helps a lot in that sense.
Very good rest!! Almost lunch here!
This post resonates deeply with me, as I also strongly believe in the importance of applying perspective in our lives. Throughout my own experiences, I have learned that even in the most difficult of times, finding that spark of positivity and seeing things in a different light can make a huge difference.
Understandably, seeking that perspective can be difficult when we find ourselves dealing with illness or health problems. At such times, it is natural to feel overwhelmed by physical or emotional pain and to lose sight of any glimmer of optimism. However, it is precisely at such times that the conscious application of perspective becomes even more crucial.
Has there been a time when perspective helped you take a gigantic leap forward in a situation that a lack of perspective would have caused an adverse effect? I have have had many such situations and am thankful each time that I have built a solid ethos around seeking perspective.
Yes, I have gone through several stages in my life. Each of them represented a period in which I could perceive my limitations, whether intellectual or economic. Sometimes I needed the support of others, while at other times I had to face challenges alone and push myself even harder. Ultimately, these situations allowed me to sharpen my perspectives, just as a musician tunes his instrument. And so, with each experience, I built a unique and personal melody that continues to resonate in my life.
And I think that's what it's all about, fine-tuning our perspectives according to the circumstances that present themselves to us, sometimes alone or with the support of others.
You say it well, ✅
This kind of reminded me about the placebo effect. Sometimes it's all in the mind, in others, a change of perspective or way of thinking can be helpful. Positivity can do a lot of things. Some say smiling, even when you're not happy, can improve your mood. So having a fighting attitude to get better health is always great. I hope you get over whatever pains or ailments you're experience right now.
The mind has great power and if used effectively can push a person well beyond established boundaries. Of course, it can also be destructive if not used positively.
