HIVE is up a third in the last month, and its price is still in the toilet.
of course, for those stacking up at 0.035 a month ago, that is a pretty decent turn around. As always, perspective depends on position, and some have positioned themselves better than others. I am not one of those some, I am one of the others.
For me though, I have been sticking to my guns in terms of what I put into Hive and what I expect out. I don't expect anything, but I am hoping that it will end up amounting to something significant at some point. Like perspective, significance depends on position also. For example, some would look at my account in terms of Hive value and see it as a life-changing amount, but that is not the case everywhere. Others would look at what I get for a few hours work and find it absolutely ridiculous, a waste of time and wouldn't bother for so little.
Both are perspective opinions.
My opinion isn't just about the value of the token though, because there is more to it than that. People spend their time scrolling TikTok and Facebook, posting on X for nothing, and still feel it is valuable to do so. Earnings aren't everything. It is perhaps one of the problems with Hive, where people expect to earn here, so if they don't earn a significant amount for themselves, then they say it isn't worth it. So what makes not being paid anything on the other platforms worth it?
Of course, on the other platforms these days, most people don't create anything and all they do is scroll and consume. They used to be places where friends would connect, or people would connect with topics of interest, but now most just scroll a lot of random in the hope they will come across something that piques their interest.
It is pretty nonsensical behaviour really, because at least for most, there is no intention in what they are doing, or consuming. It is a bit like walking down the aisles of a supermarket, randomly putting items in the trolley, without knowing what it is you are planning on cooking. The trolley might fill up with things of interest, but that doesn't mean they can be combined to make a decent meal. All the colours and labels are fighting to grab attention, and we are being drawn without intention.

A lot of people come to Hive with the intention to earn and when they create, the expectation they will earn something they deem worthwhile, but most don't actually care about what they are doing, why they are doing it, or how the system works at all. The only things many people have looked at in terms of the tech on Hive, is connected to how to earn something - some are just looking for all the shortcuts they think will help them game the system and community. And when it doesn't work, they leave.
I have no idea if Hive will ever take off in terms of popularity or if the token value will increase to the point it is life changing for every holder, no matter where they are - but where I do think there is potential is that the content economy is continually being populated by AI generation, which means the content itself is losing value. In the future, there will hopefully be the realisation that humans have value and "proof of human" is required to attract value. The outcome won't matter as much as the process, and the process will require real experience.
Process > Outcome
The outcomes are never guaranteed, but the process is within our control. Yet, how many people actually value their creative process on Hive over the outcome? How many people care about how they do things, if they don't get the result, or they do get the results they are after? How many have the intention and the process to create something they are proud of and value themselves, regardless of what it earns?
How many are doing what they love on Hive?
This is an area I can say, I am.
But it doesn't have to be the love of writing, it can be the love of discussing a topic one loves, or topics that one considers important, interesting, valuable. Where there is value in the act of creation and internal discussion at the point of posting, before any votes have even had a chance to come in. They may come, they may not - but it is still valuable.
We put the wrong price on what we do.
Maybe we get lost because we have bought into this world of social media branding and that everything we do has a dollar value attached to it. Instead, value comes in more forms than monetary, so we should consider if what we are doing is valuable to us before there is any dollar value attached. Do we have the skills, do we offer something worthwhile to consume, is it something we are interested in, or others?
If we have no intention of adding value, we should have an expectation of getting value in return.
This may or may not have an effect on the price of Hive, but doing things that are meaningful to us does have an effect on the value of our experience.

I used to genuinely have hopes of a Hive mass adopting, these days I am a lot more conservative with my expectations but the hope remains, however slim.
Hive as a platform does provide genuine value though - a respectful space where we can put thoughts into writing and simply enjoy the process of doing so.
Sure for me there are times where I write out of 'obligation' because am trying to force a new consistency streak, but for most people the platform is a viable alternative to doom scrolling on mainstream social media
It is far better to be a creative person, than a consumptive person in my opinion. this doesn't mean we can't consume, but if we aren't creating anything, what are we doing as a human?
If HIVE drops to $0.01, I still won't leave. On the contrary, I’ll buy several hundred thousand coins. After all, the only people left here will be those who are genuinely interested in Hive.

Your supermarket analogy perfectly captures how most people consume content these days: simply throwing shiny, random things into their trolley with no intention of cooking a proper meal.
The financial aspect of Hive is definitely a double-edged sword. It’s the hook that attracts many, but it also becomes a trap. As you said, people easily forget that on Web2 they give away hours of their time and data for absolutely nothing more than a fleeting dopamine rush. Here, however, if a post doesn’t reach a certain dollar value, it’s suddenly considered a ‘waste of time’.
The most hopeful conclusion of your post centres on your perspective on artificial intelligence. As the web becomes flooded with synthetic content (mechanical, copy-and-paste…), perfectly structured but empty, the messy, authentic and real experience of the ‘humanity test’ will become something of great (premium) value.
Focusing on the process rather than the result is difficult when the world conditions us to put a price on everything we do. But if we write and create because it helps us to think, to connect, or simply because we enjoy the act of doing so, the price of the token takes a back seat — though this hasn’t always been the case, as on HIVE the vast majority are motivated by profit…—.

I am hoping so. There is a slim chance that there will be a renaissance of human skill and ability - but it is only slim. The money for corporations is in mass production by machines.
Incidentally, I was reading a report on the latest PISA results, and the experts confirmed exactly what we’ve been discussing about AI and taking shortcuts. Pupils who frequently use AI solely to obtain the ‘result’ (by copying and pasting assignments) are achieving the worst marks in verbal and mathematical reasoning tests in the last 20 years — they’re skipping the ‘process’ of thinking. When we focus solely on a quick result, we lose our human capacity. The brain is a muscle, and the ‘test of humanity’ is training!

We all have several reasons for joining a platform and I think Hive is not different. In my opinion, whatever motive behind why people join a platform will stay with them for a long time unless someone has a rethink. Many people that have been told that Hive is a platform where you earn while you post may feel discouraged when they didn’t get what they have been promised and it’s all get down to interest. Some people don’t even like blogging or writing, they just write because they believe they can earn something and when that seems not to be forth coming you may not see them again or they become ghost. So I think it’s a matter of interest and what motivate us to join in the first instance and not many are willing to bear with the price of Hive at the current level. For me, i will still be around no matter what even though I would have loved to invest but I couldn’t due to my present financial situation, apart from that I don’t see myself leaving unless maybe the platform cease to exist as no one can really tell. We should remember that nothing is certain or meant to stay forever.
Perhaps there should be a thing where after a certain amount of time of inactivity, their username returns to the pool or can be auctioned off :D
I have learned a lot here through my music, shoemaking, interacting with people, and some other things I do, and those things are valuable to me even when a post doesn’t earn much. I’m still building my account little by little, but I’m also building myself along the way.
And I wish more people would build themselves along the way.
I enjoy and value what I find here on the Hive blockchain beyond the rewards themselves. I came here for the idea of ownership and earning from that through crypto, that's still fueling part of why I am here, but my activity and mark here is more than that (or I like to think so). 😊

I was once like this, then my mindset was to earn, earn and earn and I did lot of mistakes like many, many. But in all, I'm glad that despite the price of hive, I'm still here, I began to see Hive like other social media ... Its shouldn't be all about getting earning always.

Content is now just a commodity and as we have learned. Commoditisation drags down the value of the commodity.
Eventually AI slop will be almost 100% of content generated and real human input will be extremely rare and hard to find...just look at Twitter and YouTube. It's a sea of bot account's.
The real value of Hive is that we collectively own it and as mostly humans we have here a lifeboat in a sea of trash.

Is not long since I joined the hive blog chain but one thing I can say is that the way you see it matters a lot.
When you see hive as a place to earn rewards alone, then you quit when it's not coming.
But when you see it as a platform to create visibility, build your self and learn from others, then you spent time to create what's worth it and not some random collection to earn rewards.
If hive have done it before, then it will do it again...

I bought at 3.5 - but spent it all on SPL immediately. I'm still not bullish on HIVE as a coin, as you say, it's hard to get the right people, those who create content for other reasons than money. Luckily, I don't care about that part, and rather use it as a social network and platform for fun games. And as I always say - I love numbers, so seeing those little HP numbers grow and such is a fun extra.
I'll tell you that I live in Cuba 🇨🇺 and just living here is a huge super challenge, so many economic and political problems that overwhelm your day to day.
For me, Hive has helped a lot, a lot when it comes to expressing my city and my art to the Hive community; the truth is the support really makes me happy, in comments, rewards, and friends I have met on the blockchain. I'll tell you that thanks to Hive, even with the drop that happened, I work hard for rewards many times, and in my country it helps me and my family in general a lot.
Here inflation is so big that 1 HBD is 750 Cuban pesos, and at least it's enough for rice and a pack of sausages, but I hope Hive keeps growing and helping many people like it does with me @tarazkp ♥️.

I don't know how much money I have invested in Hive but when my account value is above 2k I feel not rich but a bit more secure. At the one point it was something like 1500-1600(?) so now it feels like Hive already got past the bigesst crysis(even if it still needs to do a lot of
growingrecovering for me to be rich).Besides my content that I create, I am also pretty proud of the communities I am building here. They might not be widely acknowledged, but I have the hope that they will grow into something cool one day. I remember seeing someone say that HIVE is "pumping" the other day and I thought my idea of pumping and your idea of pumping are very different if you are excited about $.055!

What it shows is that my dollar value is not far from the peak dollar value of Hive I held, but it also shows rapid growth of my HP... I don't know if this ever is going to be life changing, but I will be in a small group of people that would actually back up a truck and buy Hive if it ever drops to 1 cent.
At that point a $1000 buys you 100,000 of Hive so 5K of USD is nothing to become one of the top 44 whales on Hive... We can run our witness nodes and have our blog here that is censorship resistant. I think that is worth something...
We have been known to grocery shop like that. Ooh that looks interesting, hey we could make [this particular dish] this week, oh haven't tried this one before let's try it and most of it get used and then we might keep getting it either as a new staple or sometimes or at least now know to never get it again and some we forget is there x_x I don't know if J is a bit more intentional with it now (he decided the best time was at get stuffed o'clock in the morning and I am not getting up that early).
I'm definitely doing a thing that I like doing (blogging and commenting). The stuff I love doing just gets posted about less often than I was when I was trying to blog about it more frequently for Patreon purposes (which is never a good way for me to do anything).
And this is why I will "never" (bit of a strong word) take advice from marketing gurus ever again. Classic case of ruining fun things.
