Half way through the summer and this might be the last warm day - With warm being 24°C only. To make the most of it, we have come by the nearby lake beach to swim and relax a little.
Smallsteps is reading Fantastic Mr Fox, by Ronald Dahl.

This week has been pretty chilled, and while I have exercises and done things, I haven't been to the actual gym once. I will go tomorrow and Sunday, but tonight I am planning on making some dirty mojitos (dark rum) with mint from our garden.
Haven't had a mojito in years.
I will make an alcohol-free one for Smallsteps, so she can join in the fun. We aren't big drinkers, but I still want to ensure that Smallsteps has a model that promoted both healthy drinking in moderation, and takes away the "special occasion" of drinking. It isn't special, it isn't something to celebrate, it is just a thing that can be done from time to time.u

From my observations and experience, the people who end up having the worst relationship with alcohol are those who have been conditioned to it being something special, something that needs to be done on special occasions. They seem to always find a special occasion to celebrate, or to numb their pain.
A lot of Finns have drinking issues and it has largely been driven by levels of prohibition and access, and a culture of repressing, rather than processing, feelings. There is a big difference, even if outwardly it looks the same to a casual observer. Not being reactive to every emotion is not the same as burying the emotion to pretend nothing is felt.
One leads to balance, the other to breakage.

I struggle with it these days, because after the stroke, everything changed. My entire personality profile was up-ended and I had to learn a lot again. Except, I didn't have access to all the tools I had prior and had no new ones.
Five years later, it is still a daily struggle.
But as the pathetic saying goes, it is what it is. Nothing is going to change to make it better, no one is coming to save me, few of any are going to even help. This is just the way it goes these days, and perhaps it always was this way.
But for today, the sun is shining and there might be a mojito to end the evening.

Wait, your temps are going to start going down? That sounds amazing! We finally got some cooler temps, but then the wild fire smoke moved in. My wife and I say It is what it is a lot. I think you just have to embrace it and see it as something more freeing versus it being a defeatist attitude.
They never really went up. We had a day where it got to about 28, but most have been pretty cool.
I say it a lot too - and I feel defeated so often.
Lucky you! We have had these things called heat domes this year that are absolutely miserable! I think sometimes it's easy to be defeated, but like I said, it can also be freeing. Realizing there are certain things you just can't control and letting them go.
I have heard something about heat domes, but I don't remember it being a thing before. Is it a new term they are forcing into the publick narrative?
I sometimes feel if I let go any more, I will hold nothing.
No, I think it is a meteorological thing. It's possible it is an ongoing phenomenon that they just recently applied a term to though. That must be a scary feeling for you. I feel like I take many things way to personally and I need to just relax a bit more.
Transitions are always a mental challenge, @tarazkp. I find that the 'last day' feeling is often more about internalising the peace we found than actually mourning the sun. To answer your question, I try to view the return to routine as the structure that makes these moments of rest possible, rather than an enemy.
Wishing you a smooth start to the week and many blessings to you and your family.
My wife still has a week left on her holidays, and she is already mourning the end. I think it is common here to do so, but I don't remember it being like that in Australia. Maybe it was - or maybe I didn't get many breaks from work :)
Damn last day of summer and not a really warm one either! We have still at least a month to two months of summer weather left in Seattle.
I used to not drink at all until I was 30. Since then I have a drink on average once every two months or so. Not a big fan of wine, but I do like Old Fashioned with Bourbon :)
While the rest of Europe has had unprecedented warmth - Finland has been pretty crappy. I hope there are at least a few days in August, but it isn't looking good at this point.
I am not sure if I have ever had an Old fashioned.
We can find joy even in the simple things in life. That's my motto, and I always suggest it to my friends when they are feeling blue.
I wonder how simple life can get, and still be enjoyable?
I didn't mean a simple life, but simple things in our life, like peace of mind :)
I just got used to drinking. It was never a special occasion thing, but something that was lived as normal to me. The beer after work, after a long day. The partying. It's hard to break that habit, as you say, it numbs the pain. I'm glad that I'm finally getting back into the "only drink when enjoying" part. Being able to differentiate between the custom and the desire for a beer as enjoyment is a big relief.
I think the countries like France tend to do it pretty well - drinking lightly, often :D
Well, if that is your last warm day, I can offer you the half I have. It's totally free.
Every celebration around here implicitly involves alcoholic drinks. We even have a saying that goes: there’s no money for food, but there is for drinks and cigarettes. It’s not even worth judging anymore. I’ll just let myself go with the flow.
Half a warm day is better than no warm day!!
Do you fall into the same category of thought?
I prefer a whole day with 28 °C. Unfortunately climatic change... you know.
My younger son said he would never try alcohol. My older son, at 16, has never tried alcoholic beverages and has no desire to start. I think back to my own school days and realize that something has seriously changed in this world :)
I think a lot of kids say that - until they try it! :D
Your stroke was already 5 years ago? Damn that seemed way more recent.
When I drink I drink only a few glasses of wine most of the time. usually this happens like two- three times a year(during the birthday and name day of our favorite neighbor). So my problem with eating sweets is way bigger than my drinking ,,problem''.
It seems even more recent for me, since every moment is a reminder of it.
Wine is my normal drink. I probably average a glass every week or two. but might go months without drinking also. Never been much of a thing for me.
good morn to u. :)
yup, I haven't been to the gym this week or last.. gotta do that, but your post reminded me to do a set of my grippers. stay strong and may the sun shine brightly on u..
grippers?
Health issues make us see life differently. And in those situations usually big decisions are taken that shape us for the future. But it is great to hear you passed over it and the world has so amazing things to offer us, we just need to find the joy in it. Wish you all the best!
Hopefully the world has some goodness still in store, but I don't see much of it these days.
I like to drink
And I don't eat alone and it is important for me to have fun with others who are like me
And when someone drinks, his mask falls
Enjoy the good times too. I also think you don't need a special event to have a few drinks. Of course, some overdo it and drink too much without limits, while others moderate so they can remember the moments they share with those around them.😇

STOPThere is something bittersweet about the halfway point of summer when you know the cooler days are creeping in. Heading out to the nearby lake beach is the ultimate way to catch those final warm rays. The clear blue sky in your photo looks absolutely perfect for it. Glad you got to make the most of the day!
I did make a mojito - or 3!
