Tired of getting wood?
Don't worry. It will end soon.
And I am kind of sad about it, because the only reason I am going to have to stop making things, is that I am out of wood. Of course, I can always buy a little more, but it has been fun to make things out of the leftovers and offcuts. After clearing most of the garage today, I then decided to make a table/ stool/ shelf unit that can sit next to the grill to hold a tray or two, or a person or two, and house a speaker on an inside hidden shelf, or other random things that might be needed, but can be hidden away.
It won't sit where it currently is, but it is very portable anyway. We are still waiting on the electrician (who is on holiday with his kids) to hook up the lights and put in a 4-socket outlet, which is where I will pull the power for the speaker and my wife for Christmas lights.
Priorities.
I am getting better at making 45° corners, but it is difficult using terrace boards (as they have a bow) and with offcuts, as they are the crappy ends that had to be cut off anyway. There were a few nicer pieces in the mix, but this box is about 85 cm wide, which is the most I could make it because I only had two pieces of wood slightly more than that. The rest were under 50 cm, so it is about 45 cm high. I had no room for cutting errors, as I have run out of wood.
Aside from the 4 pieces of bar I have to finish the privacy screen.
We are still waiting on the pilar wood that will run across the top of the privacy screen to ensure that it is solid and will hopefully barely move. It is pretty solid already, but to last many years, I want to be sure. And since I suspect that people (including myself) will lean on it often enough, I want it to feel solid also. I like that the deck (so far) doesn't bend and move like some of the patios I have been on, so it feels like a proper floor. I am sure there will be some give in the future, but for now, there is a satisfaction of walking on it and it not moving.
And while my wood supply has come to an end, so to have the summer holidays with only one day left before Smallsteps heads to her new school, and I have to continue on looking for a "proper" job, because my own business isn't going to bring in enough at this point, as the economy is terrible here, and the job market is even worse.
The panic will set in at some point.
Perhaps I can sell poorly made furniture.

The question that I didn't get answered by reading was why the wood is wet? Or did I miss it?
No, you didn't miss it. The wood in the picture was wet because it rained a lot before I could get a dry picture :)
Sometimes when people get wood it subsequently gets wet.
LOL, best explanation ever :)
😉
Looking good. I always like seeing what I can put together with the stuff laying around my garage as well. I've bought far too much lumber already this year.
It is a bit like building stuff from random Lego without instructions :)
I know people who over-buy and then it just sits in their yard somewhere, rotting until they throw it away. I'd rather make something and have to throw it away :)
Yeah, it is a bit like that. My stuff sits in my garage, so it is pretty safe, but then it ends up being like this:
I misread that for a minute 😂
:D :D
I think you read it right. I am not sure if that is what I meant though.... But hey, Christmas is coming!
I'm sensing a double meaning here... 😜
No, you'll start out selling poorly made furniture. Then you'll get better at it, and sell not-just-that-poorly made furniture. And then okay furniture. And before you know it, you're a high-quality IKEA, where people shop with HBD! Wouldn't that be fun?
I'd be happy to be a low-quality IKEA :D
Whatever brings the money 🤣 People these days probably expect low quality, and pay more for it as they don't trust high quality for the reason that they can't identify it anymore 🤣
Your passion for woodworking really shows, and it seems like you're headed in the right direction to enhance your skills even more. Who knows? :)
I'd love to have more tools to do these things properly. Though, that would also mean learning how to use the tools properly also. :D
You've done a great job, and your work will continue to improve. You can become a good furniture maker and earn a good living. You can bring joy to the people who buy your furniture. This is a highly profitable industry in Türkiye.
Why is it such a thing in Turkey do you think?
Because people (women) love to show off. They change furniture quickly. Naturally, demand for furniture is increasing. Prices are rising.
Well, selling furniture like the ones you make from scrap wood might be profitable; it would be a foolproof venture. What I do recommend is using the right tools, as they're very helpful, especially with those 45-degree cuts.
I can't blame the tools with this one. I am using a Dewalt mitre saw :)
It would be nice if you could sell wood products. Pleasure from work and profit.
Yeah. The problem is that I am not good enough to compete with the cheap chains, or the expensive ones :D
That looks great, especially considering it’s made from scraps. I believe that sometimes the best projects come from working with what you’ve got. I hope the rest of the setup comes together soon
It is because it can make you more creative when you have less to work with, and nothing to waste.
So true
That's really nice craftmanship, you need to start asking your neighbours and relatives for leftover stuff to get more reusable wood :)
Even though the wood is running out and the holidays are coming to an end, the passion in every piece is still there, the spirit of creativity is present even in the simple beginnings!
Are these the normal comments of yours? They never really add much to the conversation or speak to your experiences or anything. Just looks like vote farming.
I always interact with your posts, whether they get votes or not. I publish many articles and don't get votes, but I keep posting.
Do you think I'd become rich if I got a vote? It's undeniable that one of the primary goals of all of us being here is to gain material and moral appreciation. I'll be honest when I tell you that my primary goal in commenting is to build a reputation and show that I'm present and consistent.
My comment may seem superficial because I try to read many articles and comment on them. Perhaps this is a mistake, I don't know, but at least in my beginnings in the world of Hive, I try to be present a lot to build a reputation.
But this never diminishes my appreciation for the content provided, whether by you or by someone else who truly contributes.
Your posts are wonderful and reflect real life and daily life. I read and love every time you post, and you share moments of fun with your family and even the difficult times you go through. I really follow this, as I follow other people who provide good content, and I also get votes because it's part of the growing Hive community.
Thank you @tarazkp . Thanks for your comment and have a nice day.
Paraphrasing the post into a short comment doesn't add value, *that's what my brother is getting at with his comment. You seed to be showing some personality, character and individual thought when you comment.
Maybe scale back how many people you try to read and comment on and work on more valuable and interesting comments.
Just a suggestion.
This made me think of my dad. He’s a carpenter and often makes little kitchen stools out of left over wood.
Btw, the shelf unit looks good. Love it. I wish you luck on your proper job hunting too.
You just made my day. I am sure making a shoe stand soon.
Taraz new crib with all the fancy trimmings!
