I was wondering....
It is hard to get a picture that represents the true colour of the doors when shooting at night under a horrible light, but I guess it is close enough. Also, it isn't really very representative when laying flat, as colours on the vertical will usually appear darker.

Anyway, while I was painting the second coat of the first side, I was thinking about how often I write about various projects around the home and what I learn from them. Beyond the knowledge and physical techniques, there is always something else that arises, probably because a lot of the tasks are relatively mindless and give a good opportunity to think. I am no Einstein, but having space for thought is vital, and I believe that most of us are filling up that space with irrelevant garbage that not only keeps us from thinking at depth, but degrades our ability to think at depth.
While cutting-in the ugly panels, I was wondering if people are influenced by what I write about, or what work I am currently doing. For instance, I know that @coinjoe has a garage clean-up project ongoing and @seattlea has been out painting his house siding, but this is something that they might have been planning anyway. But, I also believe that we are influenced heavily by the people we spend time with and both of those guys drop by regularly to have a read. While I am not saying I influenced them much, I wonder if there are little nudges along the way that affect their actions.

The idea of "influencers" on social media annoys me, largely because while they might have influence, rarely are they influencing behaviours in a positive way. Even the fitness influencers are largely pushing people into unhealthy behaviours in order to sell more of some product. But, influencers who are leading to increased wellbeing behaviours, they are valuable and I think we should surround ourselves with real-world people who help us improve ourselves, and be better versions of what we would have been otherwise.
While I have never met CoinJoe or SeattleA, I think that through the interactions we have had and the way we talk to each other, it is clear that we are indeed, real-people. Yes, those influencers are often real people also, but they are also mini-corporations with an agenda to push people to follow, click, buy, share, or something other. They are in it solely for themselves and the parts of their "life" they share are so highly curated, manipulated and staged, that it is more of a play than life itself.
I think that if we want to improve in areas of our life, we should surround ourselves with material and people who support that change, not only the information and ideas, but also the influence that makes us act toward our goal - not their goal. For instance, I don't try to get anyone to work on their home, but I do believe it is important to maintain and improve the spaces in which we live, because it has an effect on how we behave. it might not be a full renovation, just a tidy up, but I believe that when we consciously take care of our environment, we feel better for it and, it has a knock-on effect that will lead to more improvements. Similarly, looking after the body with eating healthily and exercise will improve a myriad other factors.
Am I an influencer.
I hope so.
Not because I can monetize on YouTube or Instagram, but so I have a positive effect on people's lives, where in some way, however small, they are doing a little better because of something they came across through my content. Even when my content is pretty negative about the world, there is still the opportunity to use pieces of it to reflect and create a positive action from it. We might all be sliding rapidly into the abyss, but I think we should still try not to speed up the process at the very least.
Have I influenced you?
And when I say influenced, I don't mean changed an opinion or a feeling in you, but have you changed your behaviour in any way because of something read here? And why I think it is important to recognise is that, I cannot make you any different, only you can.
What does that say about all those negative influences in our lives?

Would like to say you influenced me to tidy up the garage. However, that was just me finally getting off my duff. What I will say is that it is motivating to see you, and others, who continue to dig it out. Despite limitations or setbacks. It motivates me to keep going and keep trying to improve.
This is what I mean - so many times me getting up off the couch has been inspired by someone else getting off the couch, if that makes sense.
Yeah, it is motivating to see people DOING. Especially after you have been in those dulldrums for so long like I was. It is even more so when you actually get up and DO yourself. It is just good all around.
I don't think indirectly motivating people to carry out renos or even just normal maintenance tasks that are a pain in the system (sometimes lilterally) that we would obviously much rather put off indefinitely is a bad thing XD
Unlike when the influence is the plethora of reno "reality" tv shows that seem to encourage people to just sledgehammer that dividing wall like they saw the people in the episode do without realising that there would have been a bit of building research/assessment going on off-screen making sure it was safe to do that dramatic shot so you don't scatter loose fibre asbestos everywhere x_x
The door is shaping up alright :)
And those reality shows often inspire people to do things that are well, not very good investments but require a lot of cost to put in. They are "nice to haves" and only relatively cost-effective when not having to pay anyone for the work :D
They're probably like me and don't care about overcapitalisation or cost effectiveness and "just" want a nice house whatever that means XD
I think what you have done on your property has definitely inspired others to do more things around the home. It has in many ways made me feel guilty of how much should be done and somehow never get to it. The jobs I have will be done, but not by my hands as I think I would most likely injure myself or make it worse. I have organised someone to oversee the work as I do not have the time or the contacts to find the right people with their various skills that will get the job done correctly.
This is how I feel most of the time! But since I am not willing and able to pay - I have to get into it :)
I am not sure about that. But I do think that you influace me to try to write longer gaming post. I am already getting a few comments most of the time but I still hope to get more. And I think that longer form content is more likely to get that result.
Longer form is more likely. Maybe it is because of while it takes longer to read, it generates thoughts that can lead to wanting to add something. Short-form requires little input and is easy to let go. low investment from the viewer.
I wish someone would finally influence me to clean mold in the kitchen. been delaying that for a long time because it is a smelly(literally) job.
Over the years your posts always make me slow down and think, often about things that I had never considered.
I'm asking for your vote to help keep Ecency going.

I will look at the proposal :)
There are many of us that would appreciate it!

"No one can change another person's life unless they want to do so themselves"—you are absolutely right about that. Reading your blogs gives me the impression that you are someone who leads a fulfilling life, or are at least striving to live a happy one. In contrast, many people spend their lives in a state of struggle, never even realizing what it is they are preparing for.

Striving maybe - but failing most of the time :)
You are constantly influencing me. I find it interesting how people live in Finland.
For instance, I am struck by the fact that four kilograms of raspberries at the supermarket cost the same as one gram of gold. Then I learn that back in the 19th century, a 10-gold-mark coin (containing three grams of gold) could buy 12 kilograms of raspberries—meaning four kilograms cost one gram of gold. The price ratio between gold and raspberries in Finland has remained unchanged for centuries.
And I am 99% sure that you’re about to treat me to 5 grams of delicious raspberries :). Unfortunately, fiat money and tokens have lost a great deal of value, while high-quality produce has become very expensive. Yet I remember the 80s: we would come back from the forest and treat our neighbors to liters of wild blueberries and raspberries, and they, in turn, would treat us to liters of their own honey.
I think we are all influenced by the people we spend time with, even in small ways. Your posts have encouraged me to think more about improving little things instead of waiting for the perfect time. I believe those small changes can make a big difference over time.
Thinking isn't doing!
I don't know whether you have particularly influenced me, but for what it's worth, I follow your posts because they seem genuinely human instead of performative influencer nonsense. I hope I influence people to think outside the box by questioning their presuppositions, but also tread lightly when exploring new ideas. And with wildfire season in full swing in the inland northwest, I hope I have influenced people to be prepared for disaster and minimize risk.

Whether we intend it or not, the way we behave often shapes the people around us, particularly from parents to children.
I'd say yes. I have sticked around to most of your posts and I'd say that some of them has nudged me to encourage actions instead rather than just agreement. And that's influence.
It is hard to tell, you know we all think that we are independent thinkers and nobody influences us, but I suspect that there is at least a "neighbor effect" at play here. Did you ever noticed that when you start mowing the lawn all of a sudden all of the neighbors around you start mowing theirs?
One of the things I love about Hive is the fact that there are real people here. I love the same thing about Reddit, but the anonymity makes people less real in a way, and some subreddits are also unfortunately hijacked bybots. For the most part though, the people you meet here express opinions in ways you either won't find on other platforms because algorithms don't like it, or just because of herd behavior.
So yeah, I think you're an influencer. You didn't necessarily influence me, but you're part of a number of creators who inspired me to switch to taking and using my own original photos for my posts. There's a lot of subtle influencing of that sort going on here all the time.
I'd love to give you credit, but my new roof is something I have needed for close to ten years now. However, if we end up doing the flooring ourselves, I might float that one your way.
Cheers
