RE: Art Talk: Pixel vs Nikon

in Art Talk2 months ago

I played a bit of a guessing game as I scrolled through these. I used to own a D750, so I would like to think that I am familiar with its image-making characteristics, and the known issues and elements that commonly occur with typical F-Mount glass.

I did a pretty good job of detecting which was which, especially when I later looked at the smug mug page.

The conclusion to me is the adage that "the best camera is the one you have with you." Earlier this week, I went around town to take some photos for a video-art project that I am working on. I took my phone, because I knew that taking my Z series cameras and glass with me was going to yield a result very similar to the outcome I desired, and frankly - I didn't want to carry them around all day.

I don't think that it is "lazy" to use a phone over a camera, but there are situations where the bigger sensor will absolutely have an advantage over the phone. There's only so much that computational photography can do to light.

To use light, you still need to gather it, fix it, and use it with intent.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, the camera is the one with you. I just have to realize that I can go on vacation without my SLR. This is showing me I can. I also had a great thought- when there are pictures I really want to be special I can switch to RAW.

I regret getting rid of my D750, hang onto yours, no matter what. And thank you for creating this community, I will be posting stuff in it in the future, its a good place at the intersection of my ramblings and Art :)

Thank you for your Art is a threat post. I read it and the comments yesterday and have been thinking about it. That is what I wanted, for people to talk about art. I will hang on to the Nikon like I did the Canon. Actually I am letting my friend's son use the Canon. If he wants to be a photographer or even test it out I would really enjoy giving him a camera be a part of that journey.

I plan on turning my Master's thesis "Visions of Death" into a series of posts with videos, so hopefully that will get a few people wandering through this community. We have a lot of artists making stuff, but, (in my opinion) - not enough people talking about the impact that Art can have on our lives, our society and our well being.
