NeedleworkMonday Community Contest || Needlework Your Barbie 2.0

There are lots of contests circulating in every community here in Hive for the past months making every member participate but this particular contest of dressing Barbie doll by which NeedleworkMonday organize is the most exciting event every crafter awaited in my opinion. This was started last year and the result was fun indeed so @crosheille decided to bring it back due also to public demand. Upon learning this contest was brought back, many crafters were delighted and expressed their excitement about joining again.

Back in my childhood days, I remember making my doll's dress in a very simple square cut fabric sewed only on both ends, having a measurement the same as the doll's body to fit. And I remember dreaming of making a beautiful ball gown for my doll. But as time goes by, this dream of mine had faded.

Upon learning about this contest, I began to think hard about what kind of mini dress I should make for my Barbie. There are lots of designs that popped up in my mind but cannot determine which one should be on top priority. Unable to decide, I gather all my crafts, from fabrics, yarns, beads, ribbons, and even buttons, and place it all on my table. I have lots of excess fabrics given by my mom, and can't decide which is which. I began to pick up some fabrics that I like to create. I was thinking of a ball gown and hoping I could do it. There are lots of color choices from off-white, maroon, black, peach, orange, and floral. But in the end, I had chosen the off-white color lace that would be best for a bridal gown and was able to pick some beads to decorate.

(This was the outfit of my Barbie from the last year's contest: Needlework Your Barbie)

  • lace fabric
  • chiffon fabric
  • pearls
  • glue stick (used to stick the pearls)
  • scissor

I cut first the lace fabric using the full skirt pattern by folding the fabric (see above photo) then cut the lower and upper portion to form a circular form with a hole in the middle.

Then, repeat the procedure on the chiffon fabric for the lining. I just burnt the edge of the chiffon fabric carefully and make some pleats on the inner hole the same size as the Barbie's waist.

I am not a pro when it comes to sewing and never had a formal education about it, I just remember what I used to see when my mother was sewing before and with the help of the internet. But if you ever noticed some error in how I sew it, I will be glad for a correction or recommendation that you may give for my improvement.

Then I made a waistband extending on two both ends on the back portion so I could make a ribbon.

I'm having a hard time thinking what will be the design on the top of the gown. So I just made an inverted U-shape long (1inch width) rectangular shape same as the picture below to form that sexy backless top. After that, I attach both ends on the waistband of the skirt and just sew a little on the bottom part to lessen the opening not revealing too much of her cleavage.

Then I stick some pearls on the part I sewed and some on the full skirt with the use of a glue stick and a lighter.

I also made a veil decorated with pearls and a bouquet to complete her wedding outlook.

And done! This is my first time sewing this kind of gown and it feels good that it came out beautifully. Now let's proceed to the fun part of dressing our Barbie, the photoshoot.

I enjoyed the photoshoot and it's a great and satisfying feeling that no matter what will be the outcome of the contest, the fact that I enjoyed the process and learned something is more precious than anything. But it would be great also if you win, lol. Winning in this contest is a plus. 😊

Hope you enjoy everything that I shared and God bless us all.

Hi @lauramica. 😊 You know I really don't know how to speak your language. But I just only use Google translate everytime I see one. 😅 So here's my reply to your message, hoping they give me the exact translation.😁

Haha sorry, is that sometimes I read the automatically translated posts and I no longer realize if they were originally in Spanish 😅. I haven't done anything for the contest yet, but I'll come up with something.

No worries, I enjoyed reading it by the way and uncovering it's true meaning like it's a puzzle. 😅

I know you will, because as far as I remember, since I joined this community, you're the first person I saw who made a dress for her Barbie, I can't remember how that dress looks like but I did remember your name.😊

Hahaha good that you remember. This was the first one I did. I'm happy to see how I progressed in the assembly of the publications throughout this year 😂

You really had the passion to dress a doll. And you're enjoying every single dress you made. I'm hoping you could make a beautiful gown for yourself one day and share it here. I know that you can do it. You already started with those lacey panties, lol I do remember.😅 I think you're the youngest in this community? Or maybe one of the youngest that I knew.

Oh, I don't think I'm the youngest. I'm 27 years old 😅.

Woaaaaah the details!!!

So cute!

Thank you.😊

You're welcome (^_^)

@Jonalyn2020 this is such a beautiful dress! I love the shape of the skirt, how you did the top part and the added pearls for more bedazzle. The bouquet and veil are such a nice touch and look very gorgeous with her dress.

It was a nice treat to revisit your dress from last year. Thanks for sharing it again and thank you for your entry. Very beautiful and wonderful job!

Thank you so much @crosheille for your wonderful comment and for bringing back this contest where we could exercise our creativity. It was a great pleasure joining this contest and hoping it would officially take place every year. 😊

Honestly, I made two dresses for my Barbie but I just choose this one because it got more votes from my family, lol. And the mechanics of the contest announced that there should be one entry per person. So I'll be sharing the other one next time here. 🤩

You are so welcome. I think this will definitely be an annual contest seeing how much it’s enjoyed by everyone! 😊

Thank you for adhering to the rules. It will be nice to see the other design you created next year. 😍

Yes! I knew it! Thanks, @crosheille. 😊 I was being too excited that after I made the 1st one, another design just popped up on my mind that I can't help but execute what's on my mind. But I think I can still make another entry for the next year by that time. I can still share it here next week by the way.

Yes of course! I was actually going to mention you could still share it here as a regular post if you wished. I’m sure by next year you’ll have already thought up some new designs! 😃

Great! Thanks @crosheille.😊 More power to this community and God bless us all.

Wow this is so beautiful so very beautiful thanks for sharing
