Guarapo photoshoot

in Street Photography23 days ago (edited)

Street photography, something that fascinates me, something that cannot be missing in my life and is (always) in a “very brutally” beautiful way. It's like a meditation in movement.

Today I'm here calling @alt3r because last time she told me she was in a little bad health. I hope you are well now. I have thought a lot about you and your recovery since the last time we spoke and I told you to take those green remedies. There's not much I could offer for your healing, it was just some thoughts, you see. I hope they have helped in some way.

I took a little trip on Saturday and when we found this place that I came to show you through these photos, I thought about you again and your request to see some of our street food. Oh, well this is a great example.

There was a mill (trapiche) in this cafeteria located in a town called Guayabal and a large sign with the word “Guarapo”.

This, believe me, is a warning that makes any traveler very happy. I'm not going to be absolute, but I can tell you that those of us who were in that car exclaimed in unison: Guarapo! Cool!

_1350336.JPG

The trapiche is basically a machine to grind, let's say, crush the sugar cane and extract the juice.

_1350327.JPG

In a glass with ice, this juice is very tasty and sweet. In my case I don't drink this often, but sporadically, if I find it on my way.

_1350330.JPG

Not all places where they sell guarapo are clean. In general, it is a bit difficult for me to eat out for this reason. Precisely this grinding cane, if you stop to think a little... it's just Shelnixxx (Sheldon Cooper + nanixxx) speaking.

_1350340.JPG

Well, nada 😒. I closed the door on this character and drank that big glass of Guarapo. Shelnixxx was left there screaming and repeating ― open, open, open, open.

And then:

That's dirty, that's dirty, that's dirty, that's dirty. 🙄

_1350332.JPG
Bagasse is not discarded,
it is passed through another grinding machine,
and fed to animals such as pigs, cattle, goats, horses...

Bah!, Shelnixxx, don't bother anymore! 😠

And here my friend who was very hungry bought a street pizza. He told me it cost 160 CUP, about 0.47 USD. Today we have an informal exchange rate of 342 CUP for 1 USD.

He assured that the pizza was very good. It was a good size and had plenty of cheese. And when he finished eating it he rubbed his belly and concluded: Oh, I'm a person again.

I had had bread with pork steak and a malt for breakfast, in a cafeteria that we had passed very early in the morning.

Let me tell you more about the guarapo and the trapiche.

_1350331.JPG

It is an energizing drink that should be consumed immediately after grinding the cane, as it ferments easily. In fact, if you let it ferment in a few hours you will obtain a wine with an alcohol level of 5 to 6 degrees.

Contains calcium, chromium, iron, cobalt, copper, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. It contains vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and studies ensure that it has diuretic, digestive, cleansing and healing properties.

If you want to know more about this traditional drink from Cuba and other Latin American countries, you can consult this scientific document that I found in Spanish.

Sugar cane as a functional food

_1350329.JPG

I can tell you about the trapiche, that the first ones we know about were made of wood and pulled by oxen. They were on large sugarcane plantations in which the workforce was slaves, during the times of Spanish colonization. They cut the cane in the immense cane fields and hauled it to the mill, where it was ground to obtain juice, molasses, sugar, rum, and bagasse. Hey, nothing is wasted about this grass.

Guarapo!!! My favorite drink!!! But...same thing happens to me as to you, look I think to take one anywhere they sell it....everything is very dirty 🤣🤣🤣🤣. When I do manage to drink it it's glory...I love that energy drink, natural and simple and if you add a squeeze of lemon.....speechless!!!!! 😋.

😀

¡Yo quiero ir en bici a Vista Hermosa!

Alabaoooo!!!! 🤣

How tasty our guarapo, so not-clean it favors our immune system🤭🤣.

😁

Rico es. No se puede ser tan escrupulosa. 😂

Manually curated by ewkaw from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much @ewkaw and @qurator Team for your support. 🙂🙃😉

I hope your friend is recovered. I loved those photos of the guarapo at street level. I think I would have been drinking too, in Madrid I have a predilection for not very clean Bars. And by the way, I've been looking for enraicooper, and I don't see him, although maybe he is, I don't know.
Have a very good week @nanixxx

Jajaja... enraicooper. I'm sure it's out there. I have a hunch.

Jajaja 🥰😻😻😻

Vamos a Vista Hermosa. 😁

I was totally unaware of the procedure and the drink seems tasty, although if it is very very sweet I would drink a little hahaha and with pizza, but what a delicious thing....😋

It is refreshing and thirst-quenching. It is sweet but not cloying.

;)

Genial, si no es empalagoso, mandame unos 5 vasos... jajaja

Here in Bauta we have 2 places selling warapo. Very special drink... good for taking after sports time...

I have a lot of mixed feelings about everything you have written here, but the most important thing is that you made me remember that the last time I had this drink was precisely with my dad, he loved it and every time he saw someone selling it on the road he would park and buy everyone a glass. Here it looked very clean, but I didn't know as much as I did until today that I read you, even what they do with the bagasse they take as food for the animals. How interesting Nanixxx!...

A guarapo always quenches thirst and now also brings back beautiful memories.
I know about animal food because I lived for a while on a farm and they ground some grasses and together with this bagasse they created a type of very nutritious feed.

🤗 Un gran abrazo para ti.

The guarapo and the Cuban pizza, what a great duo.

History and tradition, and especially a good Matahambre .

A good Guarapo, nice and 'dirty,' is one of the tastiest things; with the temperatures here, it goes down wonderfully 😅.

We don't have much street food, but they have good stories and flavors behind them

Well I found some meringues too. Right there, next to where they sell the guarapo.

_1350326.JPG

They bring back pleasant memories of my childhood.

That's the first time I hear about guarapo. A drink that becomes wine if you don't consume it immediately. How is your stomach?

Well, you have to put it to ferment with a hose and all that like you make wine. hahaha...

My stomach is fine. Not too full and not too empty. And it's been a while since I drank the guarapo so I'm out of danger.

Gracias mipiano

That's good then that your stomach survived the guarapo experience without issues 👌

¿tú probarías ese guarapo? 😅

Always loved sugar cane, but really hard to reach it around here! - Never had a chance to try the juice, sugar only!

On the other hand I am healing all the way round, mentally, psychically and emotionally. It hard to manage another few online hours at the moment as ambient is overwhelmed (+nothing much to tell), short explanation of my silence lately...

What a joy that everything is going well. You will have a lot to say without pressure. A hug!

It's time to export the sugar cane.

[squeeze]

Business opportunity that should be considered! :D

Street photos are great especially when from another country. We can learn so much!
That pizza wow so cheap!
Glad you liked the drink 👀

I would dedicate my entire life to traveling and taking street photos.

(I will visualize this a lot)

That little eye of yours tells me that the guarapo doesn't give you confidence... I want to spread my imagination about the cons... the pros have already been said, but no, better not. 🤣

jeje tell me .... no such this as better not! little eye huh 💙
