Trabajar como higienista dental en el Instituto Municipal Público de San Francisco, es todo un reto lleno de gran responsabilidad pero honestamente amo mi trabajo y también compartir con todos mis compañeros de trabajo, brindar atención a esas personas que no tienen dinero para ir a una clínica privada y poder, garantizarles una atención gratuita y de calidad es gratificante. En esta publicación les hablaré de mis funciones en todo un día completo desde que llego a mi trabajo hasta que salgo, mi labor diaria consiste en dejar todo en excelentes condiciones, esterilizar instrumentos, así como también pasar los instrumentos a los odontólogos entre otras.
Working as a dental hygienist at the Public Municipal Institute of San Francisco, is a challenge full of great responsibility but honestly I love my job and also share with all my co-workers, providing care to those people who do not have money to go to a private clinic and being able to guarantee them a free and quality care is rewarding. In this publication I will tell you about my functions in a full day from the moment I arrive at work until I leave, my daily work consists of leaving everything in excellent conditions, sterilising instruments, as well as passing the instruments to the dentists among others.
Lo primero que hago al llegar, es ir a la dirección y buscar la llave del respectivo consultorio donde estaré, ya que son tres consultorios al momento que me la entregan en mis manos debo anotar que la recibí, debo colocar la fecha nombre apellido, firma cual llave es y la hora en la que retire.
The first thing I do when I arrive is to go to the address and look for the key to the respective consulting room where I will be, as there are three consulting rooms, when they give it to me I must write down that I received it, I must write the date, first name, surname, signature, which key it is and the time at which I picked it up.
Luego debo abrir el consultorio y elaborar la lista de los materiales que debo retirar en farmacia para llegar un registro de todo lo que se nos entrega, importante revisar todo lo que se nos entrega que no este roto o tenga algún defecto, también debo observar que todo este completo.

Llevo todos los instrumentos y materiales recibidos y procedo a ordenar el campo operatorio cortando el papel traza, colocándo en la bandeja del sillón de una vez colocó las gasas y algodones, seguido del fresero, vaso dappen para depositar las fresas usadas, luego un pequeño dispensador de bondi, para después colocar hacia la esquina izquiera los aplicadores, del otro lado se coloca el diagnóstico pinza, explorador y espejo encima de un pequeño campo cortado con papel.

Se procede a preparar el ZOE, oxido de Zinc y Eugenol, que es un material provisional normalmente se hace una gran cantidad puesto que existe, gran volumen de pacientes se deja para toda la consulta.

Cuando ya todo esta listo, iniciamos atendiendo a todos los pacientes, pasamos al odontólogo todos los instrumentos que este requiera conforme al procedimiento a realizar, en el debido orden asi como también retirando los instrumentos cuando estos ya se usaron, siempre entre cada paciente desinfecto turbina, lámpara y también el ácido y la resina sus alrededores evitando la contaminación cruzada.
When everything is ready, we start attending all the patients, we pass to the dentist all the instruments he/she requires according to the procedure to be performed, in due order as well as removing the instruments when they have been used, always between each patient we disinfect the turbine, lamp and also the acid and resin in the surrounding area avoiding cross contamination.
Los instrumentos sucios son colocados en una bandeja con agua, cloro y jabón, con ayuda de un cepillo los cepillo muy bien elimando por completo cualquier resto de sangre y bacterias, los seco con un trapo una vez que estén bien secos los envuelvo, a modo de sobre y los introduzco dentro del esterilizador por media hora.
The dirty instruments are placed in a tray with water, chlorine and soap, with the help of a brush I brush them very well eliminating completely any rest of blood and bacteria, I dry them with a cloth, once they are well dry I wrap them, like an envelope, and I introduce them inside the steriliser for half an hour.
Cómo asistentes dentales debemos llevar un registro de morbilidad con todos los pacientes, que atendemos sus datos personales el diagnóstico y el tratamientos, que se le realiza previamente a esto el odontólogo debe firmar y sellar esa hoja, una vez que se termine debemos llevarlo a historias clínicas para que todos estos datos puedan ser incluidos dentro de la estadística.
As dental assistants we must keep a morbidity register with all the patients that we attend to, their personal details, diagnosis and treatments that are carried out, prior to this the dentist must sign and stamp this sheet, once it is finished we must take it to the clinical records so that all this data can be included in the statistics.
Cuando ya se termina la consulta, debemos dejar todo limpio y en orden instrumentos esterilizados, escupideras limpias, filtros de silllones llenos y llamar al personal de mantenimiento para que puedan limpiar el piso.
When the consultation is over, we must leave everything clean and tidy, sterilised instruments, clean spittoons, filled sill filters and call the maintenance staff so that they can clean the floor.
Por último regresamos todo a farmacia y dejando todo completo, para que el otro turno lo reciba en orden y no haya problemas o inconvenientes.
Finally we return everything to the pharmacy and leave everything complete, so that the other shift receives it in order and there are no problems or inconveniences.
Por último reflexión: "Si tu trabajo no es pagado de la mejor manera, no importa hazlo lo mejor que puedas porque lo que realmente importa es el crecimiento y experiencia de vida".
