Today started off rainy, so my plan to wander around the yard early was foiled. Then the day got busy and before I knew it (shakes fist at the Daylight Savings Time Gods) the day was almost over. But even though the sun had mostly set, I figured there was enough light to get some good shots before it got too dark.
Technically the gloaming (which, according to Wikipedia is "the period after sunset and before the darkness of night" which Google put at just before 5pm in my neck of the woods. I, however, took a meander in our yard at just after 4pm, so I suppose I was a little early for it, but when I stepped outside, that's the first word that came to mind.
But before I get to the photos from my wandering, a quick shout out to Wednesday Walk host, @tattoodjay - I've really missed doing this weekly walks and I plan to make a point of doing them more often. And be sure to hop over and take a peek at his latest - Wednesday Walk around Buttonwood Park. He has some gorgeous shots (the swan looking at its reflection is my personal favorite)
The Autumn Gloaming for a Wednesday Walk
1. The Waxing Crescent moon (will be the First Quarter moon tomorrow night) hanging in the sky.
2. I've never understood why, when the moon is half full, it's called the First Quarter, but there you have it. And here it's considered 39% full.
3. Love how the last bit of sunlight makes the last bit of fall foliage glow.
4. And love how the glowing leaves made for a striking contrast behind the weathervane.
5. It looks so peaceful here, but it was pretty windy at the time.
6. I'm surprised there are still so many leaves hanging on.
6. I managed a quick video of a single leaf toppling through the air, and turned it into a short gif.

9. I get the feeling that by this time next week, these trees will be mostly bare.
10. But they're still putting on quite the show in the meantime.
11. It's that in between time when season is changing to winter, but there are still things growing. Like this single dandelion in the midst of all the fallen leaves.
12. Winter is coming, but it's not here quite yet.
13. As I was heading back inside, hubby and the youngest were just getting home from grocery shopping. He noticed this airplane flying towards the moon and suggested I get a shot. By the time I'd pointed my camera in the right direction, it had already flown past, But I thought it was still a pretty cool shot.

That plane looks like it just busted right through the moon, if you ignore the trail in front of it! What a great effect 🙌

I was hoping for that as well, but we got hit by a wicked wind & rain storm today (had a bunch of power flickers to boot), so I don't think we'll be that lucky. And thanks so much for the !PIZZA, !LUV Here's a little !LOLZ to hopefully return the favor of a smile. 😊

The last photography was amazing, it looks like the rocket has passed through the crescent moon. You have taken all the photography in a very beautiful way. Highlights the extraordinary natural beauty of nature.
At the time, I was so annoyed that I couldn't get my camera focused soon enough to get a good shot, but when I saw the couple that I managed to capture, I was

Yep, I "blame" the Australian series, The Gloaming for putting it back on my radar. And having a cool word for it kind of helps when the sun is setting so ridiculously early..okay, nothing really helps that, it's still such a bummer. 😂

I dont mind the sun setting early these days when I worked i hated it, but now if its too cool for me to go on a morning walk ( like today) I head out for the sunset and am back home before preparing the evening meal for us

Dang - I forget how spoiled we are that even though Jim retired from Comcast in February, we still get his employee courtesy service package for cable for the next year. So we don't have to pay too much for all the channels we don't watch. 😂
It was definitely an interesting first season, but lots of unanswered questions by the end and no definitive word that a second season is on the way to answer them.
And that's cool - glad you're able to mix it up with some awesome sunsets to go with your beautiful sunrises.
You are lucky we currently have Netflix and YouTube tv which mostly covers our needs
Great snaps! I love the autumn leaves at dusk. Dusk light seems to bring out the best colors and gives a nice soft light to photograph with as well!
