Not quite a live action post, but pretty much all day we have been running errands for materials and then for the last eight hours, putting down base coats on all the remaining surfaces, after the final (hopefully) flattening. It is currently all white and looks very fresh and clean, considering what it has been in the last year.

The guy that came in yesterday to help us has been rally great and he was here again today and will be at least for tomorrow. How works fast, well and the bonus is that he is cheap and clean. We have been really lucky to have found him on such short notice and he has expanded the scope of his work little to fix some other issues we have.

The schedule is still insanely tight, but I am feeling more confident that we are going to get most of what we need done in order to make it look like it should. The floor still won't be done and the trim is going to be touch and go, but reckon that overall, the evaluator will get a pretty decent idea of it and not mark us down too harshly.

I have taken next week off from work and the timing couldn't be better, though it isn't going to be a very relaxing holiday, as almost every waking hour is going to be spent getting this shambles in order, plus getting the garden looking somewhat presentable, but that is a whole different mess.

The wood panels above are part of our morning tasks, as we are at the stage in the bathroom where the tiles are on and it is time for the wooden walls to go in. My wife has a design in mind and it should end up pretty nice, even though the bathroom is very small. In a week or two it should be finished and I can add the final results, but for now, these are progress shots. Tomorrow, I will have to go and get some grout that matches the color.

The shot below was taken a few hours ago before all the walls were undercoated, but it shows that it is looking pretty clean at least. There are a lot of things left to do all over the place, but there is some proverb about eating elephants and we are taking as many bites as we can.

IMG_20210522_205222.jpg

But speaking about bites, before get onto work again for the rest of the night, I picked up some hot wings and my wife and I will sit down for an hour or two and try to recover, hoping that the second (or third) wind kicks in behind us and we can continue on.

If anyone is in the neighborhood and can handle a roller, you are welcome.

Project is looking awesome! Enjoy those wings and can't wait to see the final result.

It is getting there and when "finished" (enough) I will take some decent shots and maybe do a bit of a tour. :)

Eating Elephants?!

Find me this proverb, it sounds amazing!

How do you eat an Elephant?
Bit by bit.

Ah, I get it!

yeah it does

“How do you eat an elephant?"/"One bite at a time”

I don't think Greenpeace would approve, nor Peta.

They're too busy worrying about whales 😃

Do they only do whales? That is pretty exclusionary of them.

I think they claim they are for all but they spend a fortune on boats chasing the damn things!

I would donate to them, but they no longer take bitcoin.

Hahahaha!! Indeed!!!

waiting for the final result and its looks amazing already

Should be nice once it is done. I am looking forward to a weekend off!

I'd try to help if I was there, painting walls never really bothered me to much, but the ceilings...now they are a different story so someone else would have to help out on them. Note I said try to help. I might be more of a hindrance than a help.

The primed wall looks pretty good, getting close to the finish in that area it seems.

Trying to help would likely be enough. It was nice to have the pro come and redo some of my cockups :D

As good as it is to have the capacity to handle things yourself, this shows again that getting help really isn't so bad. My sister usually says "Don't stress too much over what you can pay for". Glad things are taking shape

"Don't stress too much over what you can pay for"

It is lucky he is pretty reasonably priced :D

Oh man. I wish that I was there. My compressor and spray gun would cover all of those walls in a jiffy. 3 coats and all.

Starting to look pretty decent and I think that the evaluator will be able to asess very well, as they are normally experienced guys, Finishing is always a long drawn out affair.
Hope for the best for you guys.

I always wonder about the overspray with the guns. Does it just take a lot of masking?

I hope that he can see from the top floor what the bottom will look like with the floor finished. It is a bit of shame, as an extra couple weeks and we would have been pretty well done in this section.

We use long 300mm wide and thin PVC boards to line the edges of the walls. Only one strip of masking tape is needed to fix them in place. Sort of like frame around the wall to be sprayed and then it's all systems go with the spray gun. Sounds easy, but if one does not know the tricks of the spray gun it can turn out a mess. But if it's professionally done, it gives a perfect finish.

I am sure that he will be able to sum it all up after a few minutes there. Depending on his mood, as if it's bad you will have to answer some awkward questions.
But of course you have become a master at answering awkward questions, as I have asked you so many :)

@tipu curate :)

That's some really hard work. You've done a lot in such short time. Best of luck.

Cheers. a little luck is needed :)

This looks promising and I am sure it will be fantastic once finished. Get going dear and do share when you finalise this. 😊👍

It is coming along my friend. Sound like the time off you will be taking, will be time well spent. Enjoyed the update.

Sometimes, I think it would be nice to have a little time I can spend poorly!

All I remember about renos is that they're an insane amount of work x_x

and I'm still arguing with J about the stuff that needs to be done around here

Hope the wood that you're putting in your bathrooms are treated and well sealed! We originally had some wood ceilings in ours and that didn't end well.

Hope the wings were good and you managed to get a bit more done :)

This isn't a wet area bathroom, just a toilet. However, the wood is designed for saunas and it will have an extra treatment over the top, which we have to test which, as the wood colour will change.

Got a little more done after the wings - but mostly watched Eurovision! :D

That should theoretically do the job :S

I always forget Eurovision exists til someone reminds me or my sibling shows me something or other from one of them XD

Whoa nice wood and tile work!
I can't wait to build my own place. Seeing posts like this are inspiring.

I can't take credit for the tiling - that was thankfully someone else :)

Dear @tarazkp, Is the remodeling of your home still unfinished?
I wonder how your family has endured the harsh winters in Finland.
Is the woman who revealed her back in the picture your wife?

I always admire your outstanding talent for taking pictures!

Is the remodeling of your home still unfinished?

It takes years to do a house like this.

Summer is coming and yes, that is my wife.

The breakfasts in front of that window will be AMAZIN.

I really do enjoy painting. Almost as much as I enjoy eating wings. I would point the truck in your direction. But there is this huge puddle of water called the Atlantic, And my truck don't float...

So I will just keep watching your progress here. While eating wings...
