Nowadays I keep myself busy in watching some historical Dramas/Movies, I found some interesting facts about HeeraMandi(The Diamond Bazaar). I recently found this on Netflix and am watching it through Screen of XCIPTV...
I was wondering while watching the series and I did some research from several resources and Collect some information from some of Websites...
What I found about HeeraMandi?
Heeramandi, also known as the "The Diamond Bazaar," is a renowned red-light district located in Lahore, Pakistan. It flourished during the Mughal era, specifically during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century. It was a place where art, culture, and entertainment thrived. That's not enough yet...
The name "Heeramandi" itself carries an interesting story (don't fell down). Legend has it that the area was named after a famous courtesan named Heera, who was known for her exceptional beauty and charm. She captivated the hearts of many, including the nobility and the common folk. Her name became synonymous with the district, and thus, Heeramandi was born because of Her name...
Heeramandi attracted talented artists, musicians, and dancers from all over the Subcontinent. The courtesans, known as tawaifs, were highly skilled in various art forms, including classical dance forms like Kathak, as well as vocal and instrumental music (everyone love to listen them).
The architecture of Heeramandi was also noteworthy. The area was adorned with beautiful havelis, or mansions, showcasing intricate carvings and exquisite designs. These havelis served as both residences for the courtesans and venues for their performances. Each haveli had its own unique charm and character, reflecting the taste and style of its inhabitants (another interesting Fact).
Heeramandi was not only a place of entertainment but also a center for intellectual and cultural exchange. Scholars, poets, and artists would gather here to engage in stimulating discussions, share their creative works, and seek inspiration. It was a melting pot of ideas and creativity. However, as time passed, the social and cultural dynamics changed, and Heeramandi gradually declined. With the advent of British colonial rule, the red-light district lost its prominence, and the area underwent significant transformations. Many of the havelis were repurposed or fell into disrepair and many were removed by their owners...
Today, while Heeramandi is not the same bustling red-light district as it once was, its legacy lives on. Efforts are being made to preserve and restore the remaining havelis, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of the past...
Nowadays just "SEX" is all around out there nothing else. Some of bad people removed the beauty and fall the history down of this great place where many of Rich men prefer to go (not for "SEX" by that time)...
