Voting Process for Vibes Week1 UPDATE

This post will quickly explain our judges voting process. First of all I want to say that we are humbled by the response from the Hive community and the wider music community. The competition is growing at a pace we are very satisfied with. We have a collaboration set up with another music group that I will share in the near future and make a Call to Action for. Stay tuned for that.

For week 1 we have decided against going with the community voters acting as a third judge until we have a decent footing and people are accustomed to the competition itself. For week 2 community will vote for their favorites to win and will be able to receive upvotes and rewards in the form of Musican NFTs that are traded on OpenSea just for voting their favorites via #dpoll.

For week 1 we have 2 judges:

  • @lordbutterfly as the competition organizer.

  • @silentscreamer (Marica_eth) who is a concert master violinist in the Croatian National Theatre and a singer.

We will look to expand the judges panel as we go along. I will most likely give up my spot and focus on organization and marketing efforts once we find fitting people to take over for my spot.

Both judges together will choose a shortlist of 10 entries and assign values to them from 1-10 in the categories of

  • Talent (1x)

  • Uniqueness (o.8x)

  • Effort (0.6x)

  • Audio quality (0.4x)

  • New Hive users (0.2x)

Listed in order of magnitude. No single category guarantees winning. Some are more important than others.

Most of this is based on subjective opinions of the judges and you should not feel discouraged if you do not make the shortlist for this week.

Talent- pretty straight forward.
Uniqueness - how good we feel your act stands out.
Effort - did you go the extra mile?
Audio quality - Straight forward
New Hive users - As the reason for the existence of this competition is to onboard new users and without growth Vibes loses one of its main reasons for existence, we added this category to encourage new musicians coming in. This ofc will not affect the final score greatly.

Max value per judge: 30
Max total: 60

Values will be summed up and the the entry with highest value will be the WINNER.
The first 6 places for week 1 will receive cash prizes as seen in the promo.

EXAMPLE:

Harry Hiverson received 20 points from judge 1 and 10 points from judge 2. His total is 30 points.

For week 2 once we add community voting (there will be another update) the top voted entry from the shortlist of 10, will receive a max of 30 points. For each place below first place, points received will be 2.-29, 3.-28... 10.-21.
This means that the third judge (community) will potentially have a disproportionally higher effect on the final outcome than any of the judges alone.
This is to encourage musicians to find their fan bases, network and hopefully bring in their fans from web2 to Hive.

This ofc is only here to clarify our process and you should mostly just look to do your best and present yourself in the best light.

Disclaimer: All of this is subject to change as we go along. Updates will be provided if the voting process is updated.

One question about "New Hive users." How is that defined? First entry/post = new and after that they are no longer considered new. Or are they considered "new" until some criteria is met, like a time frame or x amount of entries... ?

Other than that, I'd like to say I'm impressed with the progress so far. Also happy to see this is attracting outside acts to the platform (some incredible talent so far). Even more happy to see there's some focus/incentives included to help encourage their fans to come along as well. Being rewarded for simply enjoying something like a musical performance is pretty cool and something I think many Hive members take for granted at this point, meanwhile there are millions out there who enjoy music daily online yet have no clue about the perks that come standard here. They deserve to know and hopefully some of these new artists/musicians showing up are able to guide them.

Just for first entry if Vibes is the reason theyve created the account. Old Hive users will have an advantage over new users of being on hive longer, their own communities, friends so this is just here to balance it out a bit. Its not a major factor in overall score.

Its like I actually thought about this in advance. haha. 😂
thx for the feedback.

I mean this is just further my attempt for us to get out of our little echochamber, tiny chunk of the internet and spread our wings and efforts towards people outside Hive.
Too many people here are content with just getting a few votes, networking only inside Hive. We got to a point where we dont have a single crypto relevant person on Hive.
With all the brilliant minds we have here, and great dapps, amazing tech, thats sad. Only recently we have been starting to wake up with what Crim is doing, 3speak guys, etc.

Could attract the ten biggest names in music today but if they don't bring their fans/supporters with them, all they're doing is performing for, us.

Same thing goes for crypto personalities, news personalities, youtube personalties, popular game streamers, and so on. Seen it happen countless times. Thousands of followers elsewhere, no views here, and that's because they never brought their people with them. Ends up being a huge missed opportunity for the big name and their fans, along with everyone else down the line, including us...

So yeah. Good thing you didn't forget about that part.

In the meantime I'll continue to support the acts I enjoy, when I can. I'll also pay attention to comment sections and look for these new fans and if I see some new accounts leaving interesting comments, maybe I'll upvote some of those as well. And maybe in time it'll get to a point where some of these new acts will be able to support their fans like that on their own. We'll see. Would be cool to see some paying supporters show up as well. Staking and voting is a far better deal than traditional tipping/donations. That's another concept I think far too many here simply take for granted, never realizing its true potential.

Yep. Thats why firstly I require them to post their entry on Twitter which assures their followers see it instead of telling them to post it just to Hive.

Thousands of followers elsewhere, no views here, and that's because they never brought their people with them.

Thats because we asked me to come here and JUST USE HIVE. We should have found a way for their followers to SEE THEM USING HIVE.
That was the mistake imo.

Theres things im thinking about.. ofc, down the line. 😉
Still a few steps to go over.

Competition with real prizes is so cool, Hopefully it grows as more people catch on!
I think for better theming the categories should be arranged like this:
Talent
Uniqueness
New Users
Effort

;-)

Thank you for sharing the details of your judges voting process for the competition. It's wonderful to see the growth and collaboration happening within the Hive and wider music communities. Having a structured approach like this ensures fairness and consistency in evaluating entries. Best of luck with the competition, and we look forward to seeing its continued success!

Absolutely. You can never remove subjective views from judging a competition like this but we can at least to our best do share how we are approaching things.

Excelente! buenas noticias para todos los artistas.
Me parece una buena inciativa para hacer crecer la comunidad de Hive.
Éxitos!.

Wow that's a beautiful update
I love the factors that would be deployed to consider the first, it would make participants go the extra mile

I'm still putting my video together but I was wondering that if you ever need a judge or help for the videos of people making instrumental music, then I offer myself for such a task. It means not taking active part in the competition, but helping the whole idea seems like an interesting thing to do.

Just saying 😁

Your such a gaming...all about Hive!

This music contest is getting more serious and I actually like that
Thanks for sharing with us how to vote

Congratulations my friends @lordbutterfly

Waiting for new strategies

Your well-wishes for continued success are a nice touch, and it sounds like you're genuinely looking forward to witnessing the ongoing positive outcomes of the competition. Thanks for the sharing the voting criteria.

Since last week I already have the musical theme that I want to interpret... It's great to share music with new colleagues! God bless this project ♥

This competition is very interesting, especially because of the prominence given to the community in rating their favorite artists.

Hi @lordbutterfly - I can't seem to find an original post about this competition giving the rules. I would like to send my entry in following all rules and guidelines.

Rodolfo linked it below.

Its fairly simple:

Make a video on Twitter that starts with you saying "Vibes Web3 music competition Week 1".
And then you do your song. Copy the link of that tweet and paste it to a Hive post in the Vibes community. Write a few words, add an image. Thats it. :)

Week 1 is from 19th-26th.

Many thanks - will be entering tomorrow. I filled in the form and got a code
number - will be opening a Hive account in my stage name EGGSTA

Oh, the form is just for non-hivers. The codes are Hive account codes basically. You can enter with this account here.

@lordbutterfly I posted my entry tonight but having problems posting on Twitter. Not sure what to do.

What seems to be the issue? I ofc cant affect twitter but if they have a downtime you can update your post to add the link in the next 3 days.

Ok - will keep trying. I tried to tweet the link from 3speak and it blocked me

Hola cómo estás?... Aquí te dejo la publicación original donde aparecen todas las reglas que debes seguir...

https://hive.blog/hive-140169/@lordbutterfly/vibes-web3-music-competition-announcement

Me parece que en muchos sentidos el concurso está por un excelente camino. Disculpa la pregunta, pero no sé si están pensando o planteando dentro de sus actualizaciones, separar a los instrumentistas de los cantantes ?...

We wont be separating instrumentalists from singers at this time.

The competition is getting more interesting with all the ideas around it. Gradually more people will come to the platform who are interested in joining the initiative.

You are really doing amazing work already.

This is making sense
It's natural that one may feel discouraged when not shortlisted among the best entries but that's life
Someone must always win and everybody cannot win
Kudos to the organizers, nice job so far, I look forward to seeing much progress

!DHEDGE !PIMP

You must be killin' it out here!
@trumpman just slapped you with 10.000 PIMP, @lordbutterfly.
You earned 10.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 3/3 possible people today.

Definitely this event will be important, it is important to give value to many hivers that we started in the ecosystem through the singing, and over time they stopped supporting them as is my case, as for bringing new users I can tell you that we are working on that here in Venezuela, with the project lacasitahive only that we had to stop because we did not have the necessary resources, but last year we gave it hard, and we got to add new users, and we are going to activate with the world of the cultists of the state of Sucre-Venezuela that are the ones we handle more, for belonging to them, thanks for this, hive is for great things hive is undoubtedly the future, count on us to continue building on web 3, and to make the ecosystem continues to grow.

Oh, this is a very clever idea! Thanks to @nonameslefttouse for posting about this via Threads.

Having people compete in talent for prizes through the comfort of their own home can become a very popular idea. It's very inclusive in terms of opportunity, which is a primary attraction. The competition aspect just make it all the more fun as well!

I'm getting some very good vibes from seeing this growing so quickly. 😜

Woops, that was intended to be posted from this account of mine. I keep forgetting to switch.

Esto me parece espectacular. En verdad espero que las espectativas sean las mejores y cada quien quede satisfecho de su participación en este hermoso evento musical. Gracias por permitirme comentar en esta comunidad.

I have a question, will the people who participate not be able to participate in the other weeks?

Hey this has a pretty cool grading method, very school-like, but it makes sense.

I could do this competition and probably come among the top somewhere at least, if it was graded by talent alone (not bragging, its just that music is my profession), but when it comes to effort, I'd definitely fall flat lol.

Uniqueness gives me a lot of food for thought that would force me to reconsider my work.

Cool. Anyway, I won't be entering lol... no time XD

Hello @lordbutterfly you’re doing a great job.

Quick question:

For a user without a threespeak [Hive] account and without X premium how can they upload their video on X please because my newbie is currently stuck and she did fill the google form but is yet to get a reply.

Hello, I would like to ask a few questions if it is not too much trouble,

  1. are registrations still open?
  2. until when can I register?
  3. is there a specific page, for example inleo to participate?
  4. is there any requirement that the participant must fulfill to be able to participate?

Excelente propuesta voy a participar saludos

Thank you for the detailed explanation of the judging and voting process. It's helpful to understand how the scores will be calculated and weighted across different criteria. I appreciate you taking the time to provide transparency into the mechanics behind selecting winners. This will allow participants to best showcase their talents within the competition framework. Best of luck as Vibes continues to grow!

WOW! This is so great. We need to do more on our own sides. We move again for another week
