We Built this CITY!

in Hive Gaming4 years ago (edited)

We built this city, not on rock and roll, but BEER! Just started playing this fun game called dCity, where instead of using simoleans for investment, HIVE is the currency of record. You may have seen the tutorials introducing the game, so I'll share my plans for my town.

My little town

I currently have a small "berg" of 68 hardy souls and 38 SIM daily profit. My goal is full employment or keeping the jobless numbers as low as possible. With the growth in population, I noticed a slight uptick in the crime rate. Since gyms help to reduce that, one was added, but the much more powerful police station may be added in the near future.

With a tech card doubling production, I built a second brewery to generate more BEER tokens. Over time I plan to add even more and become a six-pack powerhouse while watching my BEER stack grow. I've decided to forego the auctions and the random card purchase, while making focused purchases in the market. It's best to shop around for the best price to maximize your buying power.

The developer has done a great job, but I have some ideas for future updates:

  • Celebrities - Meeting certain metrics (number of cards bought, popularity or crime rate etc.) would trigger a visit by a famous person. Pelvis Fresley, Michael Hacktion Richard Slimmons or Kim Karflashion could make a star-studded appearance. If they like your city, they could even take up residence, causing tourist visits to stars homes. Like heroes in other games, these celebs would increase positive attributes for the players town and encourage trading of their own cards. Imagine how an Albert Eyesenstein or Nikola Threshla could boost STEM in your city! The possibilities are endless. Of course, if not kept happy enough, he could turn into a Mad Scientist and cause an explosion at the lab resulting in damage to some of your cards, which would need to be repaired...

  • Spies - Can be sent in to steal tech from lightly-defended cities. This would open up a market for Counter-Spy cards for defense and a leveling-up system to keep 007 in tip top shape. Of course this means an FBI building card and rivalry between the "G men" and local police.

  • Scandal Cards - Along with the random card purchases, there could also be a chance at receiving scandal cards. Say a sex scandal involving the mayor which will effect popularity. Tourist Trap card that lowers tourism. An Embezzlement Card with a random percentage chance of success or failure in "expropriating" SIMS for personal use. A Junket Card exposing wasteful spending, with a resulting 24 hour hit to token income etc.

These are just a few ideas I was thinking about while playing. I've not yet checked out the Discord, so @gerber may already have some of these in development. dCity is a fun game and a casual way to spend a bit of your time building the city of your dreams. COME PLAY!

Thank you so much!

Interesting ideas! I think that celebrities would be a lot of fun.

I agree that targeted purchases are the right call for a small bankroll. Variance can be pretty harsh if you can't ride it out.

That's exactly who I was thinking of, the new player without a lot of Hive to spend.

And yes Joseph, we know you've got your eye out for the first Justin Beaver card! :)
