Hey Everyone 👋🏻
Winters are already at their midpoint here in India, and my terrace garden is finally showing the results of all the effort I put in at the beginning of the season. Watching plants grow during winter feels extra special to me, maybe because winter itself feels calm, cozy, and full of warmth despite the cold air.
At the start of winter, I sowed several vegetables hoping to make the most of the season. Now, many of them are in full growth, and a few have surprised me in ways I did not expect. My winter vegetables include garlic cloves, coriander leaves, cabbage, and mustard leaves. Seeing these plants grow day by day brings a quiet happiness that words often fail to describe.

I truly love winters for many reasons. The weather becomes pleasant, the air feels fresh, and meals taste better when enjoyed in a cozy environment, sometimes around firewood. Sleep feels deeper, and most importantly, winter brings the healthiest vegetables of the year. Leafy greens and winter crops are rich in nutrients, full of flavor, and incredibly satisfying to grow and eat.
However, winter vegetables also come with their own challenges. Unlike summer plants that grow vertically, most winter crops spread horizontally and demand more space. Since my terrace garden has limited space, I had to restrict how much I could grow. I did invest in a few extra grow bags this season, but even then, the space felt insufficient.
At the beginning of winter, I had sown multiple seeds including capsicum, eggplant, onion, and chillies along with the main winter crops. Unfortunately, some of these did not sprout at all. It was a bit disappointing, but gardening teaches patience and acceptance. Not every seed turns into a plant, and that’s okay.
The cabbage plants surprised me the most. Only three plants emerged from the seeds, but they are growing beautifully. I honestly did not expect them to thrive so well. Now, I can already see tiny cabbages forming in the center of two plants, which feels incredibly rewarding.

The garlic cloves sprouted successfully, but their growth has been slower than expected. The leaves should have been wider and longer by now, but they still look small. I’m hopeful they will catch up with time. On the brighter side, coriander continues to be the easiest and most forgiving plant. It grows effortlessly and always rewards you generously, even with minimal care.

I also have chilli plants growing, though they are still quite small. They will probably need another month before they start flowering and producing chillies. Gardening truly teaches you to wait and trust the process.
Winter vegetables are packed with vitamins and nutrients, making them perfect for healthy meals. With such a pleasant climate, you can cook countless dishes and enjoy them with family and friends. There is something deeply satisfying about eating food that you have grown yourself.
So, as winter slowly moves towards its end, I want to enjoy every bit of it—fresh vegetables, peaceful mornings, cozy nights, and the simple joy of watching life grow in small green bags on my terrace. And if you’re lucky enough to experience snowfall where you live, cherish it before the season passes.
After all, these little moments are what make gardening, and life itself, truly beautiful. 🌿

I love winter too. I never thought about how summer veg is so more more vertical than winter! I am going to need more growing space for this reason...

I also really like the winter season, especially because it's very hot in my country almost all year round.
I loved your plants; they have a beautiful color. I'm glad they're growing so well; that's always a pleasure.
Cheers!
Thank you so much for liking it. The same happens in my country. Almost all year, it's too hot, just 2-3 months of winter are enjoyable.
