We locally call this fruit Atis and in English, it has a lot of names like sugar-apple, custard apple or sweetsop. This fruit is very popular in the Philippines especially in the provincial areas like in my place here.

In my experience, this fruit is very memorable to us together with my cousins and friends because it has been our source of snacks for free since Atis tress grows wildly and you can pick how much you like as long as it is not cultivated by landowners intentionally.

Can you believe that I am gathering this fruit when we're kids and exchanging it with my classmates with a piece of paper in my elementary days? Yes, we are traditionally doing that before, I don't know if until now.

So, I want to share with you also how to eat atis

Lately I went somewhere to deliver goods to my customers and found these two pieces of Atis from the tree I passed by near the roadside. I stopped there to pick them because I had been missing eating this fruit already.

  • First, From the tree, you should pick the matured ones and let them ripe and it gonna take only a few days if you pick the right ones.

  • When it's ripe already you can now taste the enjoyable Atis fruit, just open the fruit eat the flesh but have to spit the seeds inside it.

This is the total seeds inside the one I ate.

Atis is so sweet that you can have the fruit for dessert, its delightful taste and its health benefits surely you would like to have some try.😉

This fruit taste good but its my least favorite fruit because I found it complicated to eat. Ahahahah though my granmother used to have a tree in her frontyard and we enjoy picking it for her.

Hahaha, you're right! That is why also I love eating it when it's not overripe.

Back where I grew up as a kid, we had an atis tree. My mom loved it so much

Ahhh, hehe. How about you, you don't like it?

Thank you for this. I know themnas Custard Apples but like many fruits in Asia, I have no idea how to prepare them to eat! In the UK, it's much more simple. Most fruits, you just eat them lol

You could start a whole new series about how to prepare Asian fruits!

Hope you and your family are well. My best wishes :-)

You're welcome.

This is one my favorite fruits in Cambodia. It can be found in Suriname too, but it's expensive and you really need to own a car or motorbike first before you can travel the distances needed to get things like this. I miss the availability of everything at my fingertips in Cambodia, a country designed for pedestrians.

I love the French name of this fruit, which translates to "cinnamon apple" in English, a very appropriate name.

Hi, how sad to know that.

Luckily here I find it near and free but I don't know now that I'm older I find less interest to get some but if see it right in my eyes I probably pick them to bring it home. I still love the taste and the memories behind it.

Thank you for dropping by.
Have a great day!
