Lego with a difference

Since finding out my brother and sister in-law intended to come here for Christmas I've been excited; I don't see any of my family members in person much due to the great distances between where we all live. Being Christmas, it meant there'd be presents, but the best present of all was going to be spending time with my four year-old nephew again.

We'd spoken on video chats about what we were going to do together, and Lego featured prominently; of course, there were several Lego presents under the Christmas tree for him and later on Christmas Day one got started.

It's a Lego City set containing a few mini-figures, a police car and ice cream van with an ice cream-shooting cannon on the top; the premise of the set is that a bank heist is happening perpetrated by the shady characters in the ice cream van who hook up an ATM and drag it away behind the van. Of course, the long arm of the Lego law is on hand to give chase. This afternoon, my nephew and I sat down to build it together and it was a really nice time of building, and then playing with, the Lego together.

He was really funny because he has remembered everything I taught him back in May about building Lego and he was over-emphasizing them all knowing I'd be watching closely. Funny little kid.

The previous day I took him to my other house where I store some of my larger Lego builds and we played with them. What I didn't tell him was that they will all go to him when he is old enough to tackle those more complicated Lego Technic builds; they will all get dismantled, the parts sorted, and shipped to the little fellow so that he can enjoy them as I have. It's a few years off yet, he's only four after all, but the way he builds Lego, (he is amazingly good at it), it will be sooner rather than later.

I build a lot of Lego, complex builds, and really enjoy it, but my Lego session with a difference was more enjoyable because I shared it with my nephew; we will do some more before he leaves - a lot more.

Later in the evening we both had a video chat with my niece @smallsteps who lives in Finland and it was funny seeing them interact together. She sent a video of herself later, on her sled in the snow, with a message for my nephew and I. She's so cute and funny; I must be the luckiest uncle ever.

I feel so glad to know that such great little kids will grow into adults and represent the family when the current generation is gone. They are both great treasures.

Hi G-Dog, I'm sorry I'm only catching up with Hive properly now. It looks like you had an awesome time with your nephew and that's so cool that your niece and nephew could chat together as well. I know how much you value family so can't think of a better way to spend Christmas holidays than building Lego and being a bit bonkers.

He's pretty relent when it comes to Lego, he just loves it and can't stand the thought of a Lego set sitting un-built. I paced him a little but it wasn't easy.

He seems to have your drive so I can imagine him with a huge collection by the time he's 10. When you're that age everything is faster paced than when you're our age.

What a beautiful relationship Galen, you have with your nephew and little steps, she is a very cute little girl. I assure you that your nieces and nephews are the generations of optimism and creativity, thanks to the love and dedication with which they are being educated.

I think today's task is: Hug and say I LOVE YOU to that nephew who learns with you and is a vitamin in your life.

One must have ones vitamins right?

Totally vitamins giant size Galen and that is the plus to being positive, optimistic, and prosperous, Merry Christmas on the way to the new year, I hope the vitamins don't fail me. 🙌

It is wonderful to forget at times that we are adults and become children for an instant, what happiness that he was able to meet his nephew again.

My youngest daughter (9 years old) asked for legos as a gift, for me it was surprising since because of her age she would ask for something else, but in her letter she clarified that what she wanted most were many legos, so her wish was granted, this is quite a game Entertaining and the best we can play even when we are adults, Merry Christmas to your cute sibrino 🤗🎁🎄

Lego is something people of all ages can enjoy I think, and can be educational for the young ones also.

I love legos! What a nice gift I gave your nephew heh heh you'll see that he will like it. I looked at your brother's post earlier, Smallsteps is splendid, your nephews are splendid, you are a lucky Uncle 😉

Lego was one of the best things I had as a kid, we didn't get sets back then as my parents couldn't afford it so we go second hand ones these days I build Lego Technic and am able to buy my own.

My nephew loves Lego too, and building together has been a lot of fun.

I'm not very practical with lego tecnics, I'm for the classic heh heh... but I fell in love with it as an adult, as a child I only had one but I didn't lose my mind 😅
In my opinion what you do with grandchildren is always fun 😉

Ahh he's so cute XD

There's some stuff that's so much more fun when you do it with little kids XD

He is indeed, a real joker too when he wants to be. We're sitting here watching a wildlife documentary and you should hear his comments. So funny.

I must be the luckiest uncle ever.

I think your nephew is much luckier to have an uncle like you.
It will carve a very valuable memory in their lives. They will definitely remember it all their lives.
What you teach in the game together when building Lego will be one of their living assets as a way to solve problems in the future.
You feel lucky to have them both, but they are both much luckier to have you.
Great experience, Sir.

Let's say we're mutually lucky.

I look forward to watching them develop into adults and to see what mark they make upon the world.

I am certain you guys are having the best of times working on Legos, the young champ is amazing and I believe he is very happy when you send me more Legos as he grows.

Good times indeed.

I hope the little guy taught you how to build Lego and you listened to him 😂 pay attention to him as once he leaves you'll be on your own and all the Lego tasks will be on your shoulders.

Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

Hopefully something he taught me sticks.

even the most boring thing if done with babies becomes wonderful...hope you are having a good vacation and although late happy Christmas!!!

It's been an enjoyable festive season so far for sure. We went to the beach tonight, had a swim and ate some food whilst watching the sunset. A nice time indeed.

Thanks for following me for a short time, I see you've now unfollowed, so all the best moving forward.

no if you see that sometimes the follow disappears it's because I have the automatic translator from eng/ita and so it translates everything in its own way...and I get confused because it always tells me "follow"...so sometimes I click convinced that I don't follow and instead ahaahahah

rather the opposite!!! I follow all your posts!

Ah ok. It' snot big deal because people follow and unfollow users all the time. I just wanted to wish you all the best. Seems like it's a techincal fault though.

That's awesome! So great that you were able to spend some quality time with the little guy. Sounds like a good holiday.
