Who doesn't remember Neil Young with Crazy Horse? Well, I remember, I'm a 70s rock music fan and probably also a bit hippie lady.
So hey hey, my my since rock and roll can never die and there's more to the picture than meets the eye I decided to bring back in my blog the emotions of a wonderful afternoon spent with my children.
Like every year, I spent some time in the mountains, on the Altopiano delle Rocche, in Abruzzo. A wonderful place at about 1,400 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Gran Sasso.
The place for a big lazy person like me is perfect, because the differences in height are really minimal, so you can enjoy the mountains but making the effort to stay on the plains (I also suffer of thalassemia minor so I really can't afford high altitudes).
In the plain that extends below the town of Ovindoli, a fairly famous ski resort, we noticed a riding stable and decided with my daughter to go horseback riding.
The animals were one more beautiful than the other, well-kept and very docile (look at the sweet cuddle the two below exchanged face to face).

E allora hey hey, my my siccome rock and roll can never die (il rock and roll non può morire) e there’s more to the picture than meets the eye (c'è di più nella foto di quello che sembra) ho deciso di riportare nel mio blog le emozioni di uno splendido pomeriggio passato con i miei figli.
Come ogni anno ho passato qualche tempo in montagna, sull'Altopiano delle Rocche, in Abruzzo. Un posto meraviglioso a circa 1.400 metri sul livello del mare, ai piedi del Gran Sasso.
Il posto per una grande pigrona come me è perfetto, perché i dislivelli sono davvero minimi, quindi puoi godere della montagna ma facendo la fatica di stare in pianura (sono anche talassemica minor quindi grandi altitudini non posso proprio permettermele).
Nella piana che si estende sotto il paese di Ovindoli, località sciistica abbastanza famosa, abbiamo notato un maneggio e abbiamo deciso con mia figlia di fare una passeggiata a cavallo.
Gli animali erano uno più bello dell'altro, curatissimi e molto docili (guardate che dolce coccola si sono scambiati i due sotto muso a muso)

Now, you have to know that my daughter and my son are as if they were children of two different parents, how daredevil one, how fearful and short of words the other.
My son actually has a sort of rejection for anything new, even with food. Consider that we were able to get him to taste french fries (not boiled eh? those from Mc Donald's) at 8 years old, the first cherries at 9 years old, etc. In short, he eats only plain pasta with oil, chicken breast and bananas. He will turn into a minion from Despicable Me.
He has never played football because he is afraid of physical contact and has never wanted to ride a carousel at an amusement park. But he's a very sweet little boy.
So when I asked him, "Do you want to come?" and he replied: "As you like" I took the chance and dragged him on the horse.
Ci hanno detto che quest'anno erano nati anche molti puledri, che però non erano ancora pronti per la monta.
Ha voluto seguirci anche mio figlio.
Ora dovete sapere che mia figlia e mio figlio sono figli di due genitori diversi, quanto scavezzacollo una, quanto timoroso e scarso di parole l'altro.
Mio figlio ha in realtà una sorta di rifiuto per tutto ciò che è nuovo, anche con il cibo. Considerate che siamo riusciti a fargli assaggiare le patatine fritte (non bollite eh? quelle del Mc Donald's) a 8 anni, le prime ciliege a 9 anni etc. Non sa cosa sia il formaggio o la pizza con la mozzarella. Insomma va avanti a pasta in bianco con olio, petto di pollo e banane. Si trasformerà in un minion di Cattivissimo me.
Non ha mai giocato a calcio perché ha paura del contatto fisico e non è mai voluto salire su una giostra al luna park. Ma è un ragazzino molto dolce.
Quindi quando gli ho chiesto: "Vuoi venire?" e lui ha risposto: "Come vuoi tu" ho preso l'occasione al balzo e l'ho trascinato in sella al cavallo.
We set off with a nice group of 20 horses and three guides, the group split in two and my daughter followed the trotting horses.
I followed my son with the horses in step because, although he seemed very calm, I was afraid he might get scared. When my son get stuck, it becomes very difficult to reason with him.
At one point I couldn't resist taking my cell phone out of my bag to snatch a few photos.
Siamo partiti con un bel gruppo di 20 cavalli e tre guide, il gruppo si è diviso in due e mia figlia ha seguito i cavalli al trotto.
Io ho seguito mio figlio con i cavalli al passo perché, sebbene fosse molto tranquillo, avevo il terrore che potesse spaventarsi. Quando mio figlio si impunta, diventa molto difficile farlo ragionare.
A un certo punto non ho resistito a tirare fuori dalla borsa il cellulare per strappare qualche foto.
Unfortunately I was rightly reprimanded by the guide.
Holding the cell phone in hand leaving the reins can be dangerous. They are horses used to walking in line but could be annoyed by anything, a wasp, a snake, and run amok.
So it's always better to stay with the reins in your hand and be careful.
I love these walks, the horse is a very Zen animal by definition.
Caressing it, letting yourself be swayed peacefully from his gait immersed in nature, is a healing experience that brings the soul back into an authentic plane of contact with the Earth.
And the greatest joy is my son who has expressed a desire to go back.
A little hippotherapy can only do him good, both to increase the connection and love for all living beings, and to encourage him to always try new adventures.

Purtroppo sono stata, giustamente, redarguita dalla guida.
Tenere il cellulare in mano lasciando le briglie può essere pericoloso. Sono cavalli abituati ad andare in colonna al passo ma potrebbero essere infastiditi da qualsiasi cosa, una vespa, un serpente, e imbizzarrirsi.
Quindi meglio sempre stare con le briglie in mano e attenti.
Io amo queste passeggiate, il cavallo è un animale molto zen per definizione.
Accarezzarlo, lasciarsi dondolare pacificamente immersi nella natura, è un'esperienza guaritrice che riporta l'anima in un piano di contatto autentico con la Terra.
E la gioia più grande è mio figlio che ha espresso il desiderio di ritornarci.
Un po' di ippoterapia non può che fargli bene, sia per aumentare la connessione e l'amore verso tutti gli esseri viventi, sia a spronarlo a tentare sempre nuove avventure.
Tutte le foto sono state scattate con il mio fedelissimo Oppo Reno Z4 senza nessuno sviluppo post fotografico.

Hai passato i 50... caspiterina non l'avrei mai detto vista anche la tua vivacità digitale. Domanda: a 50 anni andare a cavallo non fa male alla schiena?
Allora, il cavallo non è mai consigliato per chi ha problemi alla schiena come hai ben immaginato tu. Ad esempio a mia figlia che avrebbe voluto tanto fare lezioni serie, l'ortopedico lo vietò perché lei ha una rotoscoliosi precoce (comparsa a 8 anni). Ma come sport, cioè se vai al trotto/galoppo o fai salti. Una passeggiata al passo è un po' come girare in macchina per le buche di Roma 😅 io ho spondilolisi e ernia espulsa in L5-S1. La sera ho preso un ibuprofene e via, ma ti dico che quello che mi faceva veramente male erano le gambe e ... non si può scrivere 😂 (72 dopo il mio nome non è una cifra qualsiasi 😉)

Riprendo questo commento, ampliandolo con il commento post-lettura, mi piace come scrivi, lo sai da tempo ormai, felice di leggere che ti sei goduta un gradevole contatto con un cavallo, sia tu, sia tuo figlio, e che tutto sia stato ampiamente positivo, sono montato una sola volta in sella a un cavallo, sensazione veramente bella, insieme ai gatti è uno degli animali che preferisco in assoluto...
