Mi mama llego a casa y con ella vinieron muchas cosas buenas, la energía en casa cambio bastante y ahora si podemos sentir la navidad, además de eso estamos preparando todo para pronto hacer las hallacas (comida típica Venezolana de navidad) y hoy decidimos comenzar comprando las hojas y verduras que nos faltaban, empezaremos a armarlas el día martes asi que hoy fue día de limpiar las hojas.
My mom came home and with her came many good things. The energy in the house changed a lot and now we can really feel Christmas. Besides that, we are preparing everything to soon make hallacas (a typical Venezuelan Christmas dish) and today we decided to start by buying the leaves and vegetables we were missing. We will start assembling them on Tuesday, so today was the day to clean the leaves.
Nos levantamos temprano para ir a comprar las cosas y realmente fui con un presupuesto muy ajustado pensando que todo saldría muy económico, a pesar de irme a una zona donde se supone que las cosas no son demasiado costosas el dinero no me alcanzo para todo y tuvimos que tomar un poco mas de dinero de nuestra reserva. Fue bastante deprimente ver los precios de las aceitunas, pasas, verduras, etc. Todo está sumamente costoso y no puedo dejar de pensar en que muchas familias este año quizás no puedan comer su plato navideño.
We got up early to go shopping, and I went on a really tight budget thinking everything would be very cheap. Even though I went to an area where things aren't supposed to be too expensive, I didn't have enough money for everything, and we had to dip into our savings. It was quite depressing to see the prices of olives, raisins, vegetables, etc. Everything is extremely expensive, and I can't help but think that many families might not be able to have their Christmas dinner this year.
No pude tomar fotografías del lugar donde estaba ya que es prácticamente un mercado al aire libre y con el montón de personas que había alrededor lo que menos pensaba era en tomar fotos, pero caminamos bastante buscando mejores precios y básicamente todos los lugares tenían las mismas tarifas. A pesar de todo pudimos comprar algunas cosas y completar todos los ingredientes que necesitamos.
I couldn't take any pictures of the place I was in because it's practically an open-air market, and with so many people around, taking photos was the last thing on my mind. But we walked around quite a bit looking for better prices, and basically all the places had the same rates. Despite that, we were able to buy a few things and get all the ingredients we needed.
Hoy nos dedicamos a limpiar las hojas de las hallacas, pero estábamos muy cansadas y no logramos terminar, aun asi pudimos limpiar la mayoría, la guardamos en la nevera y mañana continuaremos con el restante.
Today we dedicated ourselves to cleaning the hallaca leaves, but we were very tired and couldn't finish. Even so, we were able to clean most of them, we stored them in the refrigerator and tomorrow we will continue with the rest.
Normalmente limpiamos las hojas el mismo día que preparamos las hallacas, pero esta vez adelantar ese paso hará nuestro día de armado de hallacas mas facil (o eso espero) sinceramente no se que cantidad de hallacas salgan con los ingredientes que compre, pero me encantaría poder hacer mas de 100. El guiso lo hare yo por primera vez ya que siempre lo prepara mi mamá y estoy demasiado nerviosa por eso ¡Deséenme suerte!
We usually clean the leaves the same day we prepare the hallacas, but this time, doing that step early will make our hallaca-making day easier (or so I hope). Honestly, I don't know how many hallacas I'll get with the ingredients I bought, but I'd love to make more than 100. I'll be making the stew myself for the first time since my mom always prepares it, and I'm really nervous about it! Wish me luck!.
