I have noticed that several of my Venezuelan colleagues in Hive have published articles on how to go shopping during the quarantine here in the country and have told how desolate the streets of their various cities are. And I made the decision to tell you about the journey of shopping in Maracaibo while we are in this social distancing.
He notado que varios de mis compañeros venezolanos en Hive han realizado publicaciones de cómo salir a comprar durante la cuarentena acá en el país y han relatado lo desoladas que están las calles de sus diversas ciudades. Y tomé la decisión de contarles a ustedes cómo es la travesía de comprar en Maracaibo mientras estamos en esta distanciación social.

Note: Shopping in my city before the quarantine was already complicated due to several underlying problems, e.g. poor electrical service, how difficult it is to get cash to pay for public transportation, the difference in price between local and business premises, among many others. The entire journey was made on foot.
Nota: Realizar compras en mi ciudad antes de la cuarentena ya era complicado debido a diversos problemas subyacentes, ejemplo: el deficiente servicio eléctrico, lo difícil que es conseguir efectivo para pagar el transporte público, la diferencia de precios entre local y local comercial, entre muchos otros. Let's start the story.
Ariana, my friend, and I are the type of people who love to walk, especially if we are together because we talk about so many things and if we have a couple of days without seeing each other, even more. Maracaibo is a relatively large city that has several commercial sectors where you can find all kinds of places, for example: There is a Saas Pharmacy nearby (one of the country's large pharmaceutical companies), an Ferretería EPA (yes, here the hardware stores sell food) and other smaller shops, which we could place in the category of small businesses.
Comencemos el relato.
Ariana, mi amiga, y yo somos del tipo de personas que nos encanta caminar, sobre todo si estamos juntas porque conversamos de muchísimas cosas y si tenemos un par de días sin vernos, aún más. Maracaibo es una ciudad relativamente grande que tiene en su haber varios sectores comerciales donde se pueden conseguir todo tipo de locales, por ejemplo: Hay cerca una Farmacia Saas (una de las grandes empresas farmacéuticas del país), una Ferretería EPA (sí, aquí las ferreterías venden comida) y otros comercios más pequeños, que podríamos colocarlos en categoría de pymes.
To put them in context, I'm going to tell you a little bit about my city so that you understand why we walk what we walk. Close to where we live there are three sectors, to name a few but there are more, which are called "Delicias Norte", "Pueblo Nuevo" and "18 de Octubre"; in those sectors is where we moved to hunt for bargains (I felt like a "cupomaniac" from the TV program with the same name that is on the "TLC" channel, channel 1740 on DirecTV) and look for the best prices for the products of our taste. We made a list of products that we considered important to buy first and thirty (30) dollars to bolivars (Rate @enparalelovzla on Instagram).
Para ponerlos en contexto, les voy a contar un poco de mi ciudad para que comprendan por qué caminamos lo que caminamos. Cerca de donde vivimos hay tres sectores, por nombrar algunos pero hay más, que se llaman “Delicias Norte”, “Pueblo Nuevo” y “18 de Octubre”; en esos sectores es en los cuales nos movimos a cazar ofertas (me sentí una “cupomaniaca” del programa de TV que lleva el mismo nombre que pasan en el canal “TLC”, canal 1740 en DirecTV) y buscar los mejores precios para los productos de nuestro gusto. Hicimos una lista de productos que consideramos importantes para comprar primero y treinta (30) dólares a bolívares (Tasa @enparalelovzla en Instagram).

Nota: Según la app “Salud” de Apple, se contabilizaron un aproximado de más de trece mil quinientos (13.500), lo cual serían más o menos unos seis (6) kilómetros.
We started our journey at my house and from there we walked to Víveres De Candido where we bought pre-cooked corn flour, sugar and coffee; then we passed by the Ferretería EPA where we bought soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and adobo; We walked to Supertiendas Latino (here we call it "Los Chinos de Latino" because the owners are Chinese) and there we bought butter, oil, spaghetti, rice and sanitary napkins; when we finished at Latino we went to Tiendas Total Calzado to buy some shoes (no, they don't appear in the picture but I did buy them); when we finished there, we walked to a vegetable market and bought a bag of assorted vegetables that serve for about one (1) week or less; then we walked to the butcher's to buy two (2) kilograms of two different cuts of meat (ground and stewed); we continued our way to the Saas Pharmacy and bought my mother's medicines (ibuprofen, captopril, omeprazole), and my medicines (cetirizine and chocolate for me, jiji); already very tired, we arrived at a mini market near my house and bought about one (1) kilogram of cheese; and we walked home to rest while drinking coffee.
Comenzamos nuestra travesía en mi casa y de ahí caminamos a Víveres De Candido donde adquirimos harina de maíz precocida, azúcar y café; luego pasamos por la Ferretería EPA donde compramos salsa de soya, salsa inglesa y adobo; caminamos hasta Supertiendas Latino (aquí le decimos “Los chinos de Latino” porque los dueños son unos chinos) y ahí compramos mantequilla, aceite, espagueti, arroz y toallas sanitarias; al terminar en Latino pasamos a Tiendas Total Calzado a comprarme unos zapatos (no, no aparecen en la fotografía pero sí los compré); al finalizar ahí, caminamos hasta un market de verduras y compramos una bolsa de verduras surtidas que sirven para un aproximado de una (1) semana o menos; luego caminamos a la carnicería para comprar dos (2) kilogramos de dos cortes distintos de carne (molida y guisar); seguimos nuestro camino hasta la Farmacia Saas y compramos los medicamentos de mi madre (ibuprofeno, captopril, omeprazol), y mis medicamentos (cetirizina y chocolate para mí, jiji); ya muy cansadas, llegamos en un mini market cerca de mi casa y compramos como un (1) kilogramo de queso; y caminamos hasta casa para reposar mientras tomamos café.
The final result of my purchase can be seen in the following picture, except for the shoes because I had already saved them. Due to the time and day, in certain places we don't get a queue as such, unless they were queues to pay. Otherwise, everything was quite fast and even comfortable. The streets were quite lonely, I deduce that it was because it was Sunday and we were in quarantine.
El resultado final de mi compra lo pueden ver en la siguiente foto, exceptuando los zapatos porque ya los había guardado. Debido a la hora y el día, en ciertos sitios no conseguimos cola como tal, a menos que fueran colas para pagar. De resto, todo fue bastante rápido y hasta cómodo. Las calles sí estaban bastante solas, deduzco que era por ser domingo y que estamos en cuarentena.
