Una Santa Morena con sabor venezolano

Today's music is titled Santa Morena. It is originally a Brazilian waltz that was composed by Jacob (do Bandolin) Pick Bittencourt. In relation to its author, Jacob is considered, to this day, as one of the greatest mandolinists in Brazil and has become an obligatory universal musical reference since he made the Choro Brasilero an apology for the most genuine and identity creation of the musical culture of that town.
La música de hoy se titula Santa Morena. Se trata, originalmente, de un vals brasilero que fue compuesto por Jacob (do Bandolin) Pick Bittencourt. Con relación a su autor, Jacob está considerado, al día de hoy, como uno de los más grandes mandolinistas de Brasil y se ha convertido en una referencia musical universal obligada pues hizo del Choro Brasilero toda una apología de la creación más genuina e identitaria de la cultura musical de ese pueblo.
In this version, the inclusion of the Peruvian Cajon and, above all, the Venezuelan Cuatro give it a particular and characteristic touch with its own approach to the Venezuelan joropo. This particular interpretation proposes a powerful ternary rhythm that manifests the strength and bravery of the miscegenation and cultural hybridization of these peoples.
En esta versión, la inclusión del Cajón Peruano y, sobre todo, el Cuatro venezolano le dan un toque particular y característico con un acercamiento propio al joropo venezolano. Esta particular interpretación propone un poderoso ritmo ternario que manifiesta la fuerza y la bravía del mestizaje y la hibridación cultural de estos pueblos.
Although Santa Morena is one of the least known instrumental works (not sung) by Jaco do Bandolin, it clearly shows the enormous influence of Spanish music, a particular thing in Jacob because, as I said before, his work points more towards the Brazilian Choro that is played in binary rhythm and whose direct influence comes more from the music played in Portugal.
Aunque Santa Morena es una de las obras instrumentales (no cantadas) menos conocidas de Jaco do Bandolin, en ella se evidencia, claramente, la enorme influencia de la música española, cosa particular en Jacob pues, como dije anteriormente, su obra apunta más hacia el Choro Brasilero que se toca en ritmo binario y cuya influencia directa proviene más de la música que se toca en Portugal.
