Today being the 28th day of May 2020 is World Menstrual Hygiene Day. It is usually observed on May 28th of every year. The reason behind this day being chosen is to make changes in the social stigma associated with menstruation. The number 28 signifies the average the menstrual cycle for most women and it lasts for 5 days so this is the reason why this date was chosen as 28/5.

Growing up as a girl, Iโ€™ve always felt like being female is one best thing to have happened for me.
Even though sometimes Iโ€™ll find myself feeling stuck in trying to decide on what to wear and even how to wear. But thanks to mum who is always there to guide me on what to wear.
I can remember when some group of people shared sanitary pads in my secondary school and I was asked what I would be doing with it since I wasn't menstrating by then and I happily said I was giving it to my mom, my classmates laughed at me and I felt so bad, so when I finally menstrated i was damn happy, but I never knew cramps was coming on the way, so as I grew I got use to my system.

Growing up hasnโ€™t been that easy, I have always been a bit timid and confused about my gender. More specifically when I saw my first period.๐Ÿ˜ŒThen my Mum kept telling me that I will get pregnant if any man touches me๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ.

I usually longed for further explanation but that was all I could get because sex education was more like a taboo for the people of my neighborhood.
This made me afraid because I didn't want to be a mother too early. I have always had dreams of becoming a Medical doctor which i didn't really turned out to be, because i was only carried away by what friends said as at then, but I am happy of what I am today, A Proud Teacher so getting pregnant at Secondary school was not my desire at all, no it wasn't in my agenda.

However, things kept changing in my body and the changes further increased my confusion. I didn't know what to do and who to talk to. Funny enough, most times I usually wore my sanitary pad wrongly๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ, sshh don't laugh at me๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜.

Gradually I got to read books, pamphlet, etc to get more and more away of the changes in my body, my teachers at school wasn't an exception because they tried their best to teach us the little they knew. We were allowed to come in contact with some companies or health personnel which gave us pad and intimated us more on what it was to be a girl child and to be menstrauting. I learnt a lot from them and got exposed to many information I didnโ€™t have before. Infact, some girls in my school too were very timid and unaware but I didnโ€™t know. I thought I was the only person with lots of questions in my head. So then I realized that this group of people from the organization has really helped us to know what we didnโ€™t know. Because I learnt so much, I can say that I am a very bold and happy girl right now.

World menstrual hygiene day quotes 2020.

1. Menstruation is not a problem, poor menstrual hygiene is. Happy World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2020.

2. Poor menstrual hygiene is a problem as big as polio.

3. Menstrual blood is the only source of blood that is not automatically induced. Yet in modern society, this is the most hidden blood, the one so rarely spoken of and almost never seen, except privately by women.

4. While women shed the blood of life each moon at mensuration, man can only shed the blood of death through warfare and killing.

Insightful! I remember talking to junior secondary school students this time last year about menstrual hygiene. Sweet memories.
