He sido muy sociable desde siempre, aunque de un modo poco convencional. Tengo una gran habilidad para conectar con personas de todo tipo, sin que haga falta resaltar en gran medida, ser el “alma de la fiesta” (como decimos aquí en Venezuela) o hacer el papel del clásico bromista que busca llamar la atención.
Ahora mismo, creo que es algo que vino conmigo, innato, por defecto. Una capacidad para atraer personas y establecer lazos, muchas veces estrechos. Todo eso ha traído como consecuencia que tengo muchos amigos, variopintos a rabiar; diversos, de distintos ámbitos y épocas. Los que estudiaron conmigo en alguna etapa (conservo hasta de la etapa de educación primaria), aquellos que trabajaron conmigo, los que comparten alguna afición conmigo, los que nunca he visto en persona pero nos conocemos por Internet, los que cantaban conmigo y un largo etcétera.
Secundo eso de que los amigos son la familia que uno escoge. En mi caso, han sido eso y más. Personas cercanas que me han dado cariño, me han acompañado, escuchado, atendido e incluso sostenido en ocasiones; solo por decir algo de lo que he recibido. No quiere decir esto que la familia no haya sido importante, que lo ha sido, lo es y lo seguirá siendo; es solo que este post se lo he querido dedicar a todos aquellos que, sin tener un lazo consanguíneo, me han prodigado atenciones y afectos durante muchos años de mi vida.
Reciban entonces mi reconocimiento y profundo agradecimiento todos mis amigos, aquellos que tienen 20 o más años de antigüedad y siguen vigentes y en contacto; esos que no han permitido que miles de kilómetros de distancia enfríen la relación; aquellos que me escuchan, me atienden, me cuentan sus asuntos en búsqueda de consejo o desahogo; a todos los que en algún momento me tendieron la mano en un momento de apuro; a los compañeros de baile, de rumba, de juerga, de estadio o de concierto; a los que han compartido tarima conmigo; a los “tercos” que no se alejan a pesar de que ya no compartimos aula de clases u oficina de trabajo; a esas “rarezas” que jamás me han visto en persona y aun así han establecido vínculos cercanos conmigo; a muchos de esos que no estoy mencionando ahora mismo porque sería un párrafo interminable, a todos, infinitas gracias. Qué fortuna sentir algo parecido “al millón de amigos” como nos cantaba el famoso Roberto Carlos.
Hablando de canciones de amigos, una de mis favoritas es un tema de la banda española Hombres G. La discografía de ellos fuera de su país de origen fue muy diferente a lo que salía al mercado en su suelo natal. Aquí en Venezuela, luego de catapultarse a la fama con el álbum que contenía “Venecia” y “Devuélveme a mi Chica”, salió a la venta un LP que tenía una foto de un enorme cochino (cerdo) y que contenía canciones que se convirtieron en éxitos radiales: “Temblando”, “Una Mujer de Bandera”, “Huellas en la Bajamar”, entre otros.
Entre esas canciones, estaba también, por supuesto, a la que estoy haciendo alusión y la cual además, le da el título a este Post. Un emotivo tema con el que conecté de inmediato porque me sentía plenamente identificado con él. La letra es de David Summers, como la mayoría de los temas emblemáticos del grupo. Permítanme entonces, compartir la canción con ustedes y si se sienten identificados también, hagan lo que dice Summers: “Abrázate a tus amigos, haz como yo”.

I have always been very sociable, although in an unconventional way. I have a great ability to connect with people from all walks of life, without having to stand out, be the "life of the party" (as we say here in Venezuela) or play the role of the classic joker looking for attention.
Right now, I think it's something that came with me, innate, by default. A capacity to attract people and establish bonds, often close ones. All this has brought as a consequence that I have many friends, very diverse, from different fields and times. Those who studied with me at some stage (I keep even from primary school), those who worked with me, those who share a hobby with me, those who I have never seen in person but we know each other through the Internet, those who sang with me and a long etcetera.
I second the saying that friends are the family you choose. In my case, they have been that and more. Close people who have given me affection, have accompanied me, listened to me, taken care of me and even supported me on occasions; just to say something of what I have received. This does not mean that family has not been important, which it has been, is and will continue to be; it is just that I wanted to dedicate this post to all those who, without having a blood relationship, have lavished me with attention and affection for many years of my life.
I would like to express my recognition and deep gratitude to all my friends, those who have been with me for 20 years or more and are still in touch; those who have not allowed thousands of kilometers of distance to cool down the relationship; those who listen to me, listen to me, tell me about their affairs in search of advice or relief; to all those who at some point have lent me a hand in a moment of trouble; to those who have shared the stage with me; to the "stubborn ones" who do not move away even though we no longer share a classroom or work office; to those "oddities" who have never seen me in person and yet have established close ties with me; to many of those who I am not mentioning right now because it would be an endless paragraph, to all of them, infinite thanks. How fortunate to feel something like "a million friends" as the famous Roberto Carlos sang to us.
Speaking of songs by friends, one of my favorites is a song by the Spanish band "Hombres G". Their discography outside their country of origin was very different from what was released in their native soil. Here in Venezuela, after catapulting to fame with the album that contained "Venecia" and "Devuélveme a mi Chica", they released an LP that had a picture of a huge "cochino" (a pig) and contained songs that became radio hits: "Temblando", "Una Mujer de Bandera", "Huellas en la Bajamar", among others.
Among those songs, there was also, of course, the one I am alluding to and which also gives the title to this Post. A touching song with which I immediately connected because I felt fully identified with it. The lyrics are by David Summers, like most of the group's emblematic songs.
