Tapara: a tree with many benefits

in GEMS5 years ago (edited)

Greetings dear community

Tapara tree, whose scientific name is crescentia cuiete, grows in the intertropical zones and belongs to the bignoniáceas family. It is a plant native to Central America, in Venezuela it is known as totumo or tapara.

In the area where I live many of these trees grow and some neighbors have them in front of their house and take advantage of the benefits offered by this tree.

The fruit of the tapara is large, with a hard shell and a green color. It has a maturing period of approximately six months. Since ancient times, the fruit of the tapara has been used for decorative, artistic and medicinal purposes. A number of beneficial properties are attributed to its pulp, since it is used as a natural remedy for conditions such as dermatitis, hair loss, headaches, among others.

The dry and empty fruit serves as a homemade utensil and for making some handicrafts. The size and cut depend on the use to be made of the totumo. In my house I have some models that I use as water containers, a spoon to serve the Sunday sancocho and a small one that I use as a measure to make coffee.

This tree is used from the leaves and fruits, all this for medicinal purposes, among the benefits attributed to it are:

  1. The leaves of the tree are used in the elimination of free radicals, since they have antioxidant properties, studies have proven that the phenols that the leaf contains, not only prevent aging, but also help in the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer's, arteriosclerosis, diabetes and blood pressure.

  2. Dried seeds are used as a natural dewormer.

  3. The leaves and barks of the totumo are widely used for their anti-inflammatory properties, it is recommended for arthritis, joint pain, neuritis and dermatitis.

  4. The pulp is beneficial for the digestive system due to its high fiber content, it helps to eliminate waste from the intestine. In addition to calming diarrhea, stomach pains and regular bowel movements.

  5. The pulp of the totumo is also used as a natural cream bath, since it prevents hair loss, helps to repair damaged hair, restoring shine and softness, strengthening it and stimulating its growth.

  6. To alleviate the headache, migraines, the pulp is extracted from the totumo and it is macerated with alcohol, this is applied as a poultice on the temples.

  7. With the pulp a "preparation or bottle" is made that is very effective against the prevention and elimination of fibroids, cysts and fibroids, since it contains purifying and anti-inflammatory properties that alleviate endometriosis. It is a natural alternative against so many chemicals that enter our body.

Personally, one of the benefits that I take the most from this fruit is the pulp to make the cream bath since it helps me to decrease hair loss.
