Another Day, Another 800 Million Bucks

Let me preface this by saying I am no Henry Kissinger. I am not a master geopolitical genius. Far from it actually. I am just a simple man that lives a simple life. I certainly do not have all the answers.

Another Day, Another 800 Million Bucks

It must be Groundhog Day again...

Seems to be nearly a daily occurrence that the Biden administration is sending another military aid package to Ukraine.
Let me be crystal clear by saying that what has, and what is still going on in Ukraine breaks my heart. I believe we as a country, and as the world collectively, should do what we can to help.

That should include Germany too. However, according to Germany it has maxed out on the arms it can supply to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attempted to counter criticisms Tuesday over Berlin’s decision not to provide more advanced equipment to Kyiv as Ukraine prepares for another major offensive in its eastern regions.

Scholz said Germany will continue to provide defensive aid where it can but alleged its equipment stocks are maxed out.

Kind of reminds me of the old time country song Lucille:

You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
With four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times
But this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"

Love him or hate him, Trump nailed it on this one. Check out this article from JULY 11, 2018:

U.S. President Donald Trump launched a sharp public attack on Germany on Wednesday for supporting a Baltic Sea gas pipeline deal with Russia, saying Berlin had become “a captive to Russia” and he criticized it for failing to raise defense spending more.

“Germany is totally controlled by Russia, cause they are getting 60 to 70 percent of their energy from Russia and a new pipeline.”

Trump renewed his call for other NATO allies to pay in more to the Western alliance after years in which U.S. taxpayers have, he said, borne an “unfair” share of military spending.

“I think these countries have to step it up, not over a 10 year period, they have to step it up immediately. Germany is a rich country, they talk about increasing it a tiny bit by 2030. Well they could increase it immediately, tomorrow, and have no problem,” Trump said.

“If you look at it, Germany is a captive of Russia. They got rid of their coal plants, they got rid of their nuclear, they’re getting so much of their oil and gas from Russia. I think it is something NATO has to look at. It is very inappropriate.”

I sure hope this is not going to be a deal where much of Europe is saying "let the bloody Yanks do the heavy lifting"... I think it has been way too often that we end up sending our boys and girls overseas in order to have boots on the ground in wars that we need not be into. I hope we do not get sucked into spending out treasure on a largely European issue. As The Who said, I hope we don't get fooled again...

I don't know much about politics like you but I support you, what they are doing to Ukraine is bad and everybody, country and organization should stand up and speak for them come on they are humans like us we should not just sit and allow them continue to suffer.

Well said. Clearly some of the richer nations could do better.
