It Happened Again!

OMG! It Happened Again!

Today Was a Sublimely Beautiful Sunday - Yesterday Not So Much.

Sunday is turning out to be a lot better than Saturday!

The sky in the midst of the storm was quite pretty. However, notice how bare the trees are from the heavy winds that had been raging!

For several days The Weather Service had been warning us of gale force winds coming on Saturday. They were absolutely correct. Of course we instinctively knew that we would lose power. From our past experience that seemed inevitable. Usually if the wind blows in the slightest, we lose power.

Last month we spent a lot of money on a generator. Before we had it assembled the power was back on and it was never even fuelled. However this time the power had been out for a while before I decided to go ahead and put gas and oil in the generator. I was pleasantly surprised to see it started right up like it should for all the money that it cost. My son and I went out in search of more fuel because 6 gallons didn't even bring it to half a tank. By the time we got back home the power had been restored. I'm still not sure spending all that money on that generator was the right decision seeing that we have yet to use it to power anything at all. Of course Ben argues that the peace of mind is worth the price.

Our new little Coleman LED lantern really saved the day as we were working on the generator last night!

Can you believe it can run for 15 hours on low which is what we were using! Better yet it is like half off at less than 18 USD bucks on Amazon. https://amzn.to/3E2LAJQ

Today looked much better than yesterday!

I also had a disaster on the inside of the house. This is the fern that usually is outdoors by the front door. Of course with the cold weather supposedly coming eventually, I needed to bring it indoors.

This was a case where there were too many cooks in the kitchen. We all wanted to make sure that the fern did well indoors, so unbeknownst to each other, we all were watering said fern. Even though it has a huge dog bowl to catch excess water underneath the fern, it was filled to overflowing. I had about a 4 by 4 ft area that had standing water. That is never a good thing on a wood floor of course. I had to quickly dry it up before it soaked through, therefore there are no pictures.

As is usual with a lot of bad there's generally a little bit of good. My quote-unquote Christmas cactus it's just full of blooms. It always starts well before Thanksgiving and ends much later than Christmas. Perhaps it will bloom all the way to Easter this year.

I am very proud that I did get one little job done today that I had been putting off.

I had a sink that was slow draining no matter how much drain cleaner I poured in it. So been had some spare gas line hose from working on the Jeep. It was just the right stiffness to go in and open the clog!

Now it drains like nuts!!! A DIY win again.

The only thing that was not stellar today was the food was rather mediocre.

The generator is a good investment for places where power outage is possible often.

You lose power a lot! I have never seen anyone lose it as you do up there. The underground utilities will sure make a difference, wait and see.

Autumn is over already!!

Losing power is such an inconvenience! It's my dream to live in a more remote area but I know this is one thing that I'll have to get used to. I've been toying around with the idea of pairing a Tesla Powerwall with a good solar set-up. We have a friend that lives on St. Thomas and she has a similar set-up and it seems to work pretty well.

I do believe solar is going to be a huge part of our future, especially as legacy energy prices keep going higher.

I agree. The solar panel tech needs just a few more innovations to become more efficient.

Had a hurricane come through here last night. Fortunately, where I am the power holds up pretty well. Some others around town aren't so lucky.

Seems like all it takes here in Michigan is a slight breeze or a little rain to take out the power!
