Searching For a Seat or Two

Almost a year ago now I sold my house in Michigan and moved to a house in Virginia. All this time I have been searching for a seat. You see I used to have some nice creamy Italian leather pieces that included a couch, a loveseat, and a recliner. They were very comfortable, but not new, especially considering that my German Shepherd spent at least 98% of its life lying on one of those creamy Italian leather pieces LOL.

So for this past year, my old posterior has been sitting on an old office chair. I really missed having a nice couch or recliner to stretch out in and watch a movie. I always found that to be the best sleeping LOL.

So as I am wont to do on a sublimely beautiful Sunday, I decided to take a drive and check out a furniture store called Virginia Furniture Mart. I always hear Virginia Furniture Mart advertise on the Apple podcasts that I listen to, so I had wanted to get over there for some time and today just seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Did you notice the red bushes near the entrance? I really love how they look.

If they have thousands of Google five-star reviews then maybe they can work a good deal for me?

Before I even made it inside the door of the store, I already wanted this hanging seat. I just think it would be perfect for my boathouse dock.

Did you notice the barn painting in the background? I really want to try to replicate this idea using just the paint knife. This reminds me of watching Bob Ross paint a cabin in the woods using only the paint knife.

The Beautiful Sunday and Sublime Sunday tags are some of my faves! I want to thank @ace108 for running the beautiful Sunday tag every week and keeping such detailed stats and supporting the accounts. Also, a shout out to @c0ff33a for the sublime Sunday tag where your random Sunday posts are always welcome!

At first blush I was certainly not dissatisfied with the selection because the warehouse is huge! I really liked the fact that there were many helpful and friendly salesmen on duty willing to answer questions yet without being too pushy.

I quickly came to realize that there are many options available for my tender tush to sit on. For example there is this nice leather piece that would be even more comfortable with the available matching ottoman.

Ben was quite taken by the soft and comfy fabric that makes up the upholstery of this chair.

I thought it was nice that there were some discounted floor models.

20240128_154814.jpg

To be perfectly honest I thought the starting price was rather on the high side.

I thought this table top that turns into an eating tray was a pretty cool idea.

Not sure if I am sold on the price, though.

This chair is more like a bed, however it was Ben's favorite choice.

I was seriously considering buying this desk chair because mine is rather harsh. however I thought the price for this unit was rather harsh as well.

Overall I thought the store did a nice job with the layouts. All of the items whether it was tables, lamps, or paintings and even rugs were all clearly marked with prices.

At the end of the day what we really wanted was comfortable furniture for a reasonable price. Of course I favored pieces that were made in the USA, and I think we found both.

At first I thought I would be happy with a manual handle version of a recliner. However they typically have two set positions that the unit will hold. Anything in between will not be solidly held, but rather will allow slippage.

These are the leather color choices.

Sadly it seems buying anything that is made in America always costs a bit more. I guess you got to put your money where your mouth is.

Dang, the chairs are beautiful and look comfy too, but the sticker price is a shocker. Now, I am not sure I want to go looking for new furniture and I really need to. Yikes!

I havent bought a chair in 25 years! Now I know why lol.

Ouch ... 2000 grand for a chair. I am sure you will enjoy them thought. Popcorn and movies ... here you come.

Ouch is right! I feel like I would have to cover the furniture in plastic like they used to do over here in the old days!

I was just SURE you were going to get some kindly used furniture from the thrift store for the halfway house, so you could get the good stuff for the future house spaces.

Looks like there was a fine choice there.

I have bought used wooden furniture, but am leery of fabric like a chair. I am deathly afraid of bedbugs.

EEWWWWWwwwwwww.....

Looks like Ben and you have different opinions. Wonder if the hanging seat will triumph. Maybe just in time as the weather turns warm for the boat to go out.

At the slow rate of progress on my tree cutting, I sadly dont see a lot of boating this summer. Somehow I have gotten old, and the tree trucks seem to weigh more than when I was 25 lol.

We are all getting old. Hopefully the beginning of fall isn't harsh so you still have more time to go out with the boat.

Everything does seem to become very spendy once you eliminate the "made in China" stuff. We do have a couple of nice furniture stores in town, but you can virtually buy a new car for the price of a living room set!

We've usually had to resort to IKEA where they have comfortable enough stuff, but not made in the USA, and it doesn't last that long.
