ADULT LIFE

And I asked myself "Am I an adult yet?". Well yh, I am a young adult.

Hi, and welcome to my post today. A few decades ago I was born into a lovely family, at that time we were just 6, and I was the last born (I guess I was the only last born who wasn't stubborn) until my kid brother came and dethroned me, we then became a complete number '7'.

I was and still am very brilliant. During my primary education, I went to good standard schools, where we were taught how to speak queens English. I was fast in modeling that, I remember my mum intentionally asking me questions so I would speak the " Queens English" but now the accent has gone into hiding... (Life)

There is this question that every kid must have been asked and sometimes the answers they give never actualize or at least not fully. This question is a question I was asked too on several occasions.

Here is one of the conversations.

"What would you like to be when you grow up?".

I answered

I would love to be a Medical Doctor

I was asked

Why?

My answer

Because I love to help people, I hate to see people suffer.

Those words came out so easily but from a sincere heart. I really hated and still hate seeing people suffer.

Immediately, my parents took it up and kept on encouraging and pushing me to that dream. As I grew older the dream and passion became stronger but this time with more details, it became "A Surgeon" not just a doctor.

Fast forward to recent times

I graduated from Secondary School quite early but sadly couldn't secure admission. During the 4-5 years I was at home I took up jobs.

I fell in love with computers and tech along the line, worked in small tech firms. Gradually my passion for Medicine began to die but I am still aiming at medicine, after all, it was my first love.

I haven't gotten what I wished for in Adult life but come on I am still young and certain that I would attain those heights sooner or later.

ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT ADULT LIFE

One thing I do love about being an adult is Independency.

There are still many adults that are very much dependent on people in different ways but I am not.

You know, as an introvert I got to realize that I hate to always be in the face of people. I just want to be by myself, in my space you know. Do things myself.

This has made me extremely independent, not just financially but in other aspects of my life.

I have 3 elder siblings that I can ask stuff from, I have my both parents, I have uncles and aunts but I choose to do my things myself. Make and spend my own money, sometimes it gets tiring but it has really helped me in many ways. So yh, that is one thing I love about this Adult life.

ONE THING I WISH TO CHANGE

MINDSET I would love to change the mindset of young people. I am not against education at all but we need to see that there are more means to getting money (since that is mostly the reason for schooling) than spending years in the 4 walls of a university. There are numerous skills and knowledge out there waiting to be grabbed. Especially in this digital age, there are digital skills to learn with which you can earn. Get equipped with skills

It is no longer about your "certificate" it is now about your "sabificate", this simply means companies no longer look at your certificate but also how equipped and experienced you are.

That would be all for today.

Thank you for reading.

You can still be a doctor and a tech. guy.

Medicine is now technology driven.

The other aspect is to do technology that would help some aspect of medicine...

Diagnosis and treatment.

Yes, you are right boss. I once read about biomedical engineering, I might just blend the both.

You can attain your dreams if you really want them. There are no limits in this life, just mindsets.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

I totally agree with changing of our mindsets
We basically do not have to spend years in the university with little or no outcome

Just look at her... Only last born that is not stubborn (I PRAY OO)
Well your post is awesome and I love the part where you really highlighted the reason for schooling and how you intend to change the mindset of allot of these young fellas

Honestly speaking allot of people needs rewiring, because things has changed but most humans has refused to acknowledge this changes
Somebody very influencial to them is what can really help them see this light

And I'm happy some of them are coming out of their shell especially as their religious leaders are hammering it to them...
Thanks for your beautiful write up

Wowww, I am in love with your piece😊, being independent is a great thing you have achieved at this stage of your life and it will help you a lot at long run. Despite the fact that you have Uncles and aunties and your parents too to depend on financially but no , you still went on your way to hustle for your self acquiring skills at the same time, that's amazing and I am proud of you.

Keep grinding and be focused, your dreams shall turn to reality one day!

At times like this, it's worth reconsidering your desires, maybe you'll find something else more inspiring to help people...

You know, as an introvert I got to realize that I hate to always be in the face of people. I just want to be by myself, in my space you know. Do things myself.

I can relate with this but sadly, we can't live alone. We've got to be involved with others to advance in life.

Yesss... I know we definitely need people around. I get involved with people but don't just like to be in their faces all the time, you know, so as not to appear as a burden.

I am sure you understand. Thanks a bunch though.

Wow!!
To change the mindset of people about education telling them that education is not the only way to make money, that will be nice. If only I was told that there are many more ways to make money, I would have taken the risk. Lol

Independent is one thing every adult enjoys, free to do whatever you like and you won't be questioned or judged. I love that

It is never too late until it is. You can still get involved with other things, especially virtual things. Even here on hive, there are great opportunities too.

The freedom is 😩 nobody to question you. You are so right Nancy.

Awesome blog post dear @ruchial

I remember learning "Queens English" in primary and secondary school then. In my days, it was called English Diction. You just reminded me of my Diction teacher and how we frustrated her back then in SS1.

Yeah, having the right mindset is really a big issue. The world has gone beyond learning within the four walls of a classroom, we now have lots of information for free on the internet.
How I sometimes wish I knew better than wasting time aspiring to enter a Nigerian University. Look at us now dealing with back-to-back ASUU strike with no end in sight.

Keep up the good work dear. What aspect of tech are you into??

Much love😍

The Asuu strike is frustrating but I think it is also a good thing depending on how you choose to see it.

Students can use this time to learn as much skills as their head can carry and make a good living out of it.

Aspect of tech?🤔 Nothing specific yet just the basics.

I don’t think people should go to university because they need the certificate to make money. They should go because they want to learn about the course in a university and also experience life in an academic institution. I’m certain it’s not a new thing to most people that many millionaires out there did not even spend years in a university, so I think students in universities and other tertiary institutions actually know this, but they just go along with the “university after secondary school” because that’s how they feel it should be.

I enjoyed reading your post. It was nicely written.

Yes, majority if not all millionaires outside and within Nigeria didn't go to the university. Yes, society has made it a standard, a process that must be followed: After Sec school - University follows.
Thank you for your lovely comment

You’re welcome!

It's never too late to still pursue the love for Medicine.

Nice thread you have got here.
