First snow of the year!

in Wednesday Walk6 months ago

Only yesterday I was talking to my friend who is still in Kharkov about snow. It is winter season in Ukraine and I was telling her how much I miss the snow. To be fair, I tell it to everyone who talks to me about winter now. It is because I genuinely miss the snowy days of Kharkov.

Weather forecast has been teasing me with constant notifications of "possible snow". The train service teased me with "potential delays due to snow and ice". However, no snow...

Yesterday and today morning was pretty sunny, especially compared to the fleet of rains and storms we've been getting. I decided to make the most of the sun and walk a little bit after my meeting, but as if nature has something against me, right as the meeting concluded and I got out of my chair, it started raining again.

But hey, the Dutchies say "you're not made out of sugar", and they are right. So I put my hoodie up and decided to continue my walk. At least get 5000 steps in before the rain gets heavy.

Not too many steps into the walk, the rain started to look like snow.

SNOW!

I was so happy! I have been waiting for snow for quite some time now. Last year, we had only one day of snow (more like one hour), and it wasn't enough for me.

Will someone tell me what's the best way to capture snow on a phone camera?

To be fair, it isn't the fluffy balls of snow. This is somewhere between and over sleet and freezing rain...I guess? Against dark surfaces I could see the snow dropping. On my jacket the tiny snow melted as quickly as they touched me. Guess I'm hot, right? Very hot.

Do you see the two small white dots on my sleeve? That's snow...on its way to melting into a tiny miny water droplet.

I waited for some time hoping it would snow a little harder, but it didn't. So I continued walking. I went through a neighbourhood park which had started looking like a marshland from the constant rains.

Do you notice something? The path within the park is completely damp and dirty, with twigs and branches covering the edges of the path. However, in the other picture, even the dead leaves seem to be dry.

The two pictures are from two ends of the park. They are roughly 1500 steps away from each other. One side is in the shade and the other side receives a lot of undisturbed sunlight. That could explain why they are different states, but to this extent?

I haven't been to this park in a very long time. Last time I was here it looked completely different. Beautiful lush green trees, birds flying around, clean paths. It truly is a winter look now.

I started walking to the train station as it was enough walking and "wetting" for the day. I stopped next to a building just before the train station and thought this wall looked really beautiful. The red bricks had an interesting texture and design because of how the rain had hit it. The green from the plants, and the dark pots made for a pleasing contrast.

I think I liked it because it reminded me of brutalist architecture.

There was another pot ahead protected under an awning, and I couldn't believe my eyes...

Snow on sprouting tulip bulbs!? How pretty. And how lucky of me to find this!

As fast as I approached it, I also turned away. It was a fake pot plant with fake snow on it. Someone had just bought it from the store which is why it looked "fresh".

Oh well, here's to hoping it snows soon. Real snow, please.

Hi. I've never had the pleasure to be un touch with the snow. I would like! I thing there must be a magical moment!

The first time really feels magical. I fact it feels very unreal. I have never forgotten how it feels.

Hi my friend!. Those little white dots and so many false notifications make me think that this year you will have more than one snow day. I don't remember where you told me you are located, but in the trees you can see that there is little left for a fairly cold season, nothing to see here where we don't know the snow, although in one area of Venezuela I know that it has snowed but for be a very, very high mountain. In the meantime, it is good that you take advantage of those sunny moments to walk since we never know what the weather will be like tomorrow. Good photos in this post, I really liked it!...

Hi friend @jesuslnrs. I also hope there will be more snow. Today is very misty, so it is a sign. I think a visit to that mountain would be a good getaway and also experience the snow. I try to take advantage of the sunny days since there are so few.

That brick wall looks amazing! Great capture. Oh, and remind me to send you some snow! I hear you, I miss snow too, but we still get some each year, for a week or so. Not much, but it's something. However, some of the areas have snow already.

How will you send me snow? I hope in a temperature controlled box...or else it'll be just water :P
I'm sure you get more snow that Netherlands.

Have you ever seen how ice cream is delivered to the supermarket?

Not really. I've seen how it comes out (usually in my stomach)

I can't blame you as that's the most fun part 😁

a beautiful walk , I do love that brick wall

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

Beautiful and much needed to! Thanks for hosting us in your community.

Snap! We've had a light covering of snow throughout the night. Unfortunately, by the time I've dragged myself out of my warm bed it will have gone. I hope you get a bit more.
