When a prohibition sign makes you walk

The little village of Beniardá was quieter than ever.
Usually, at least a few cars pass through its narrow streets, but that day there were none. Not because people decided to protect nature and air from pollution...

It would be a great reason actually to have a car-free village. However, there was an even more marvellous reason to breathe just pure air between the stone walls in the streets of this place: some workers were painting the church so it was impossible to pass there with a car. There was a prohibition sign before you enter the narrow streets so those who wanted to drive through the village for whatever reason (you live there or just want to reach the path to the lake) weren't able to do that.

Once again it was proved that if one door (or in this case street) closes you can opt for a different solution. Take a different path or leave the car at the entrance of the village and use your body. Your feet can also be grateful later, you made a physical exercise and enjoyed the feeling.

So, this was the reason why we walked there, almost two weeks ago. The church needed maintenance and the technicians put there a scissor lift to reach the bell tower and paint it. The street was blocked. They already finished the tower part when we arrived there, we can see the difference in the colour.

The wall around the main entrance was still waiting for the new colour.

I have just this photo of the church in the process of getting its new, nicer look as it was forbidden to park there... probably ourselves, as if already cars were not allowed to pass there, what we would park in the front of the church? Myself, I guess. 😂

This is a funny inscription here. It says:

NO PARKING

From Wednesday

12th

until X

IMG_20230414_135228.jpg

Seriously? Until X? 😂

They didn't know when the work would finish, so that sign was a good one. I haven't visited the village since then, maybe it is still forbidden to pass and park there, who knows 😁

Anyway, it was a good reason to take our feet instead of the car to pass the village as we were heading to the lake that is in the valley. I am leaving the link to that post just for those who didn't see the place, but if you already saw that post with the lake, just please skip clicking on this. The village is small, and it has just a few narrow streets. It also has a school, with two classrooms, which is this building:

IMG_20230414_135627.jpg

Also, it has a town hall (Ajuntament) which looks like a regular house and a tiny square in front of it. Well, don't imagine a big square, it gives space just to park two cars.

IMG_20230414_135324.jpg

The streets are narrow, as is the case with the majority of small, old Spanish villages. Just pedestrians and donkeys were supposed to pass here, I guess.

IMG_20230426_093104.jpg

Maybe we were supposed to walk here to step into the past in our minds and feel how life was a century ago. We should carry the things on our shoulders or back, bags of flour, corn, and other foodstuffs... or a piano... hmm, would I need it at all while living in a tiny village like this, a hundred years ago? 😆

IMG_20230414_135103.jpg

Passing through the village I saw that the windows were nicely decorated with plants and other decorative items, like empty, antique glass bottles. For sure, this is not a village in an abandoned state, although it is small. Seems that there are still people who like to choose to live in rural places. It has its pros and cons, but there are some beautiful views from the edge of the last street, toward the lake.

IMG_20230414_135432.jpg

You also saw from my photos, there were no people on the streets, but one cute living creature was found! Guess what I found?

A cat 😍

IMG_20230414_135550.jpg

A cat with ginger and white fur was sitting there, by a bench. I took my time and waited for it to come closer.

IMG_20230414_135551.jpg

Here we go, a few cuddles to the shy kitty that made me like the prohibition sign we faced at the beginning even more. Can be there something better to see?

IMG_20230414_135609.jpg

Maybe yes. Maybe the views from the end of the village are winning here, the views toward the turquoise lake where we went down after this walk through the streets of Beniardá.

@mipiano Did they put flower pots behind bars from you? 😂

The view is magnificent!
Imagine the fresh air there!

HAhahhah, how did you know??

🤣

The frightening plant killer and stealer was in the village, they had to protect them from me hahaha

The air - much cleaner and fresh than by the sea!!

HAhahhah, how did you know??

I see! 🙂

The air - much cleaner and fresh than by the sea!!

Yes, I agree with you

That's very nice village maybe I could live in one of those village with my wife and have lot of dogs and cats like that beautiful one white and yellow 💛, I can walk to everywhere fortunately I haven't carry a piano 😅😅 just my camera and some hairbrushes and maybe some oil paintings 😂😂😂 I could also make a mural in the church , I seem like you can take your time 😂😂🖌️

I am more than sure you would love the pace of life here. Yes, camera, brushes to paint, you settle down with your wife somewhere here, and then we would come even more often to this valley as we would visit you and have a cup of coffee ✨

Haha, yes, a mural on the church would be nice 😇🥂

Check out the video than Nanixxx found, it's as beautiful as it is shown 🍀

Yes we would make tertulias de café, arte y música would be great 🤗

untitled.gif

Buscando un GIF adecuado... café, arte, música... Pero este es gracioso haha

😂😂😂

And I fell in love with Beniardá, because it is impossible not to fall in love when that sign welcomes you with a heart. Didn't the people who painted the church that day have blue paint? Of course, they had to close everything to do this work with X date of completion, since that church is the main monument of that town and dates from the sixteenth century.

(yo solo suspiro)

I love how you take us to such beautiful places and make us walk through their streets imagining a thousand stories that you have already told and maybe you have left to tell. And you are a great cat charmer...😋

I don't know about the blue colour for the church facade, I couldn't park myself there for more than a few seconds and ask them 😂

The video you have found is so nice, and it is how this whole valley is. That's why we like to go there so often 😇✨

There are places, still to visit and still to bring here. Probably stories to tell too, but just to bribe somehow Miss Time ;)

Thank you 🐾

Only takes a few effort to get to this breathtaking lake... I like the tranquility of the village.. Didn't see anyone passing through. Just a cat hehe..

Small Spanish villages are sometimes empty like this...but there are people living there. 😅 The cat was cute and indeed, the only living creature I met 🐾✨

Thanks that they did the painting on the church and you find time to walk and exercise in a little while.

Exactly. It was perfect, as the church was getting nicer and we could actually walk a little bit around 😋

If you will go back there, for sure the church is done painting and you can see how beautiful it is after.

We go there often, the only problem is that lately I don't have a day off to do it, neither weekends are free so I really need some vacations. Soon hahaha (reality - will not happen that soon 😑)

Oh no! Sad to hear that. So if ever you can go back there for sure it is finished and you can passed it there with your car.

What a charming village I love the style of the buildings and the narrow streets

Maybe the streets being closed for the church painting may inspire them to have car free days occasionaly so people will walk and truly appreciate the place

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, its my pleasure to host it and see all the posts each week from all around the world, including yours, if you have time visit some of the other walks this week there are so many interesting ones

Now I know most only post once a week using the Wednesday walk tag or community and I truly appreciate that and love visiting the posts so for most of you you can ignore the next sentence

I try and be nice and let people know via a comment to only post once a week, but some just abuse it and to me spam multiple posts a week, after asking nicely a few times and being ignored, this morning I regrettably had to mute a couple of people who were spamming the Wednesday walk tag

Hmm, maybe, as people mainly just go down to the lake and walk there. However, the village is also charming :)

👍🙂👍

OMG, it was a beautiful village. I just love looking at it. Especially the view towards the lake with green water. It was very beautiful in my opinion.

Thanks ;)
Although this is a typical little Spanish village, it is nicely maintained and you see the amazing views 🤩
Thank you @heartofdarkness 😇

you're welcome mam

It looks like a small but luxurious village, it's very nice, moreover there is a very beautiful tiny creature approaching you there, like she wants to invite you to meet her, hahaha 😂😂

Hehehe, yes, a beautiful tiny creature. Maybe she was waiting for a few tasty bites too, but I didn't have anything with me that she would like. 📸

Hahaha, let's hope he finds delicious food in the future.😹😻😻😻😻

Though she/he didn't look thin. Seems that this cat likes to eat ;)

The thing about life is that when there is a sign, it makes us walk and one discovers things that otherwise would not have happened.

I loved the pictures of the church, although it needs restoration and with the cat I died of love!

Beautiful publication @mipiano , thank you very much!❤️

It happens many times that we discover nice things by surprise, or without planning them. That's the mystery of life, isn't it ;)

I see the cat almost completely stole the post hehehe 🐾🐾🐾

I couldn't help it, I love kittens!😍

Hello dear friend @mipiano good day
What a beautiful town, to be honest, I wouldn't mind walking through the narrow streets of the place, there are many beautiful things to see and enjoy.
The church will look very good once the restoration is finished, I love its construction.
It would be a good deed, if the whole world chose a day without cars and transportation to avoid pollution.
I loved this walk, I appreciate that you shared this experience
Have a beautiful day

The little church is nice, charming. Not a big cathedral, but still it shines proudly in the corner of the main street. It will be pretty when the painting is finished. Thank you for stopping by @jlufer 👋🍀

What a lovely village:) And the place looks so peaceful and quiet.😊
The cat looks so sweet and cute :)

Indeed ;)

Sometimes I think, maybe I would like to live in this or surrounding villages, but not sure for long term hahah. I love to visit it and enjoy in its vibe from time to time. The kitty, I know , a cutie 🥰

I dream of visiting some of these villages that look so beautiful and peaceful, not to mention the lake, what a beauty! Definitely the ad is funny 😆

Hahah, the prohibido aparcar sign or the letters on the entrance to the village?

It's a nice village and especially the nature around it, definitely worth visiting a place like this 🍀🤗

Hahaha, the one with the no parking, the others look just colorful to me.

What a nice little town! The view at the end looks amazing!

Well I can speak for myself and that would be that I won't want to drive a car in that village... How much would you miss? A walk through something as history rich, it can only be amazing!

Although we drove (and now walked too) through this little village so many times (as we love to go to that lake and the path to it starts at the end of Beniardá) it is always a super nice feeling. The cosy, narrow street that leads to that valley :)

How strange human nature is...
If you say don't use the car to enter the historic center, it seems like asking them to amputate an arm.
If, however, there are issues and, moreover, without an end date, human beings (not all but a good portion) give in and enjoy some situations that on a healthy level are definitely necessary: walking!

Hahaha, true! Human nature can be strange, but I suppose that is how many times our mind works. 😁
I try to transform the bad moments into a little bit better ones, well, it's on my mind, but I don't always achieve it.

This looks like an absolutely beautiful day!

It was. We spent some nice time by the lake but then had to walk back, uphill to the village 😁

Ah yes, nothing beats a nice uphill jam after a relaxing day at the bottom of a hill :)

Just being silly, but seriously I do think that’s a great way to end a lovely day!

Haha, and that is how it was. Although in some moments it was pretty difficult to keep the pace, the happy feeling of arriving at the parking lot was greater 😁

LOL! I know that exact feeling of relief 🤣

Cozy village and look... cats!!! 🥰

Yep, a cosy one, though the surrounding villages are also so nice. They are gaining in popularity and more people are visiting them. Hehe, the cat 🐈

I like the lake views😍

It is just breathtaking, I know ;)
That's why I like going there.

Hope you are doing well @oneplanet 🤗

Sí ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ. 🐾🐾

gorgeous little village again, for us to see. Why are a lot of things in Spain, mañana, mañana. So laid back too may siestas 😂

Mañana is the best word in Spain haha

😂 untitled.gif

Soon me too 💤

What a beautiful place, especially the lake :) I saw many of the buildings have matching paint, was that planned?

This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project

Many of the houses are white or yellow in these villages, but I don't know if it was planned or not :))

It looks like it, but may very well be due to the abundance of paint in those colors 😂
