Hello friends and happy Wednesday Walk!!

A special shoutout to @tattoodjay for supporting the Wednesday Walk tag.

One fun thing I have realized about many of the small towns here in Virginia is that they all have courthouses. Generally the courthouse is the oldest and most impressive feature of the town. I thought it would be fun to walk down the street here in Marion VA and check out the courthouse and see what we see along the way...

This is what the street looks like tonight, versus what I would guess the 1950's view of the same street coming from the other direction.

As you can see they really have the courthouse done up in a rather patriotic red white and blue light scheme.

It is quite common here in Virginia that the courthouses all seem to have a statue for the war dead including the Civil War.

I have heard that there have been efforts to remove such relics, yet four out of the four towns I have visited still have decided to keep their Civil War Memorial.

I think it's worth sticking around to see how it looks in the daylight...

I'm glad to see I am not the only one out scrounging around for some food. LOL.

If I am given the choice, I always prefer to not eat at a non-chain restaurant when in a small town. I much prefer finding a local establishment because those are often a diamond in the rough from my experience.

The Downtown Pioneer is one such diamond. Situated in what was once an old Franklin Five and Dime Store, the Downtown Pioneer is the perfect mix of contemporary yet small town good food kind of joint.

The fun cow theme is even carried into the restrooms.

I like to say the proof is always in the pudding…

Now we can make out what was written on the statute a little bit better in the daylight.

The old courthouse is quite impressive and large for such a small town.

They even have an empty theater seat from the Lincoln Theater right down the street as a remembrance for those Prisoners of War and Missing in Action. (POW-MIA)
