Windy walk at the village

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

Here we are again for the wonderful #wednesdaywalk challenge by @tattoodjay and this one is a walk in the village I currently live. Fourth Wednesday walk and I am still showing you the area around and this rings a bell that maybe I need to fly a bit further :)

The weather these last two days was very windy, especially today as you can see below. The waves are visible from up here!

Let's start walking in the tiny village of around 100 inhabitants.

15 kids are growing up here, so a basketball basket on the wall of an abandoned house is a very characteristic picture of the situation here. Most houses are abandoned, but at the same time some people are doing their best to give to this village life again.

No cars in the village, only stairs and narrow streets. It is beautiful but not always easy when you live here.

You can see which houses are inhabited from the woods outside the door :)

The only way to go by car is around the village, but it is an one way road and you don't want to get stuck there. This sign is valuable, although not put at the best spot.

The center of the village is around its spring in the one and only square.

There is a window above the falling water and if you look inside you can see the beauty of the backstage.

The root of the spring is deep inside the earth, so even though we have a very rainy weather, we can't see the results yet. It is usually in spring when the water starts flowing again in abundance.

This is the old "bakaliko", mini market, that closed last year. The owner retired at the age of 90. He didn't want to leave the village without a shop where the older people that can't go to the city could do their daily shopping.

His old car is parked a bit further.

And that was the old "kafeneio". The coffee shop that had the first TV in the whole region, first than the city coffee shops :) The owner was pretty proud of this!

The view from here is amazing!

There is a wild cat that lives at the edge of the village that decided to accompany me through half of the walk.

She is so cute! Took advantage of not being with the dog, demanded and won long stroking.

When I get out of the house, first thing I see are these drawings made by the kids. I love the last one!

And there is some more kid's graffiti.

And some more photos...

For the end my favorite spot. I love this narrow path that leads to the villager's gardens just below the village.

Happy walks!

I know you say you should venture further away but the walks you have shared so far have been awesome

I live little villages like this a shane to see them rundown but maybe there a chance that it can recover as these days it seems many and looking to get out of big cities and live somewhere in a more rural environment

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Thank you for your beautiful comment @tattoodjay!
I can't really imagine how life in these villages is going to be in a few years. Hopefully some people will come, but during these 8 years that we live in the area, only a few people have experimented on letting back their lifes in the city and even less are still around... We'll see! For sure it is not easy to live here, but at the same time it is also wonderful :)

Most welcome
I guess it’s not for everyone some like the ease of having everything easy and available
But there are those who appreciate a challenge

We can but hope

Oh yes, it's not for everyone and it shouldn't be for everyone! Just to find the balance, not so crowded cities, not so empty villages! It is true though that we hear more and more how many want to change their way of life, we'll see if they will take the challenge. It would be great!

True it’s like the saying the grass is greener on the other side

So many people love the idea of change but when change comes they find it harder than they expected

Exactly! On the other hand it would be a nightmare if they all wanted to come and live in these small villages, lol! Have a great day!

Ohh yes that’s also a very good point

So beautiful, that view out to the sea and from coffee shop. Loving the painted meters. You do live in a beautiful place @traisto xxxx

The view is therapeutic! The old people of the village stop ALL works just before the sunset, to enjoy the view in spring and summertime that it is not so cold for them to be outside. And after that, they do nothing but having conversations with friends or some good rest, how wise!

We can always find beauty anywhere. I know you had a great walk experience because the place is nice especially in the garden area. But I'm not sure of myself if I can manage to sleep at night alone in one of the houses there. It seems there are several ghost stories around.

Actually not even one ghost story, haha! I have to start asking around to see what the others know :)
Had never thought of it to be honest, the feeling is quite calm!
You are so right, beauty is all around!
Thank you for stopping by @kellyane!

What a great walk. Thank you for showing us around the village. It may seem repetative to you but I love it. It is all so new to us. Oh except I remember the spring from Stefanos! So great you took your cat with you this time. :)

Thank you Sara! Glad you loved it!
Oh yes, the spring is already famous, haha!
She is a stray cat. She usually doesn't enter the village, she lives at the fields around. I was amazed by her friendly approach. I am always around with the dog and she never had the chance to come closer :)
