“This a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.”—Maya Angelou
Perspective
More often than not, our definition of fine days is shaped by the event of what has been happening during the day, the people we encountered or experienced the day with, and basically by how we really feel about the day based on our preference.
If we like it, it would be a good day. If we love it, it would be a wonderful day. If we dislike it, it would be a bad day, if we hate it, more often than not it would linger longer than we would have liked it.
Disclaimer: this is just writing about my observation and without any intention to be right or wrong. I just like to see things from a different angle. So please read it with an open-minded heart or feel free to stop right here.
It was a moment of festive, 25th December 2021. Pandemic has been with us for almost 2 years now and compared to last year, today seems like there is new hope at the end of the tunnel. As there are vaccines available, more development in the medication, a thorough and clear health protocols. Slowly the outdoor activities restriction is lifted up, people are finally able to get out around the house, city and lately countries. Business is getting back to its own feet, etc.
Yet, there are still dissatisfactions that emerge. Some complain that the speed of recovery is not fast enough, some are suffering from natural disasters, some are just hard to please.
This quote by Maya Angelou struck me to the core as it kind of rings the truth of positivity.
Because we can't be 100% sure of what will happen tomorrow, and there is nothing we can do to undo the past. It is today that we can decide how we are going to do with it.
She decided that that day would be a wonderful day even before it started.
And isn't that marvelous?
It was Christmas day here. We don't have a Christmas tree and I just found that the tire of the car was flat and it was raining. But it is wonderful to see how my aunt and her caregiver are sitting next to each other enjoying a video clip sent by relatives through her phone.
And I got everything I need right here. Not much but maybe so much more than others. I have 3 meals a day, a warm blanket on a nice bed, even a phone and internet connection, decent cloth to wear, perfect good limbs, and most importantly, I have the present moment.
Despite my failing eyesight, I am content that they haven't stopped me from writing at the moment. The flat tire is not bothering me for I can always use online transportation if I needed to go out. I will have to change the tire sooner or later, but it won't deter me from being content at this moment.
Yes, I am at the age of getting off the bad came with the cracking sound however, I
am still able to move from one place to another without any aid, and isn't that something to be appreciated about?
Changing the bedsheets and cleaning up the room can be a satisfying activity. I am far from my family but I know they are all well and that is a blessing, isn't it?
And regardless of how the unexpected events will turn out, to our liking or disliking, the key is to choose how we will decide how today is going to turn out to be. Today is a wonderful day. I have never seen it before.
Sabbe satta bhavantu sukkitattha.
May all beings find their true happiness.
Be Happy and Best Regard
