with the refuse bin as a bed
with trash as a tray of food.
A society as shattered
a people so battered
Oh! the despondency I see
In hollow sunken eyes.
Only tears doth trail
the many pavements and streets
destitute and lonely they roam
and this night was a heavy rain.
I hear silent pleas in the cold night air
tattered dreams, smoldered hope
a tiny spark of fire quenched
