Xavier and the Rainbow

Xavier and the Rainbow_ Lavi Picu.png
Once upon a time there was a boy who lived on a farm and loved spending time playing outdoors. Like any other child his age, he liked to run and climb. He ran everywhere: in his garden, on the path, through the forest, up and down the hills surrounding his house. He climbed every single rock, ladder, shelf or tree he met on his way.

One rainy day he got tired of staying inside as his mother had instructed him, and he sneaked outside, as soon as he noticed the rain drops stopped falling.

As he was playing in his big yard, jumping in the muddy puddles, splashing water on his green dinosaur rubber boots, he saw a rainbow forming in the orchid. He ran there as fast as he could.

He looked at the rainbow and thought it would be great to climb all the way up and enjoy the view from up there. He greeted the rainbow and asked for permission to climb on.

"Hello! I’m Xavier! I live here on the farm. Mom says I need to ask for permission before climbing on anything. So, can I climb on you?" asked the little boy.

The rainbow was surprised that the little human was talking to him. Nobody else ever did. All the people were simply admiring its splendid colours! No one ever greeted him before, nor talked to him. He smiled at him, and nodded its head as a yes.

Xavier started to climb on the rainbow’s back. While he was getting higher and higher, he was asking the rainbow more and more questions: "Where do you live? Where do you sleep at night? Don’t you get lonely up here? Do you have any friends? Do you like the rain or getting wet? Does the rain or the mist gets you wet? Are you afraid of heights?"

Before the rainbow had the time to answer any of them, Xavier was asking one question after another.
"What a playful little creature! " thought the rainbow. "I like him!"

While the boy took a seat on top of the rainbow’s arch, squinting far away into the misty valley, he heard his tummy growling. He remembered he had a cookie in one of his pockets. He took it out and before taking a bite, he asked: "Do you like chocolate chips cookies? They are my favorites!"

He broke it in two pieces and offered one half to his new friend. The rainbow did not know what to do or say. He had seen humans eating before, but him, he had never done it. He felt so touched by the boy’s gesture that his colours got more vibrant.

Just as he was getting ready to answer, they heard a voice calling Xavier. It was his mother. She was calling him home for dinner. Then, the rainbow told the boy it was time to return home.

He was expecting the boy to go down the same way he had climbed up, but Xavier slid down, just like he did in the slides in the park. He knew that he would tell anyone he climbed and slid down the rainbow, no one would believe him.
The moment he landed on the ground, he turned towards his friend and waived friendly at him.

Once he was done chewing his cookie, he shouted : "Good bye! See you tomorrow, after the rain!" And ran to his house.

From that day on, Xavier was happy each time it rained. He was impatiently waiting to meet his friend again.
