We all should remember one thing that no matter how much success or power we accumulate, we should always keep a foot on the ground. We often get blind, like I have enough money and respect, people to listen to me, I can do whatever I want. These kinda people suddenly face something that they didn't even anticipate in their wildest dreams.
So recently, what happened is like, in one of our internal groups, I suddenly saw a flood of messages. Upon scrolling a little bit, I figured out that two of the people we know violated some law in public, dealt with the matter in an arrogant way, and the video got viral, making them face public backlashes.
So the thing is, they possess senior positions, like they are the decision makers there. Oftentimes, the upper management makes decisions for the interest of the company that go against the comfort zones of the employees, so they get offended but are mostly helpless to change. Something like that happened here as well a few months ago. No words were spoken back then; once tried, and we had to lose one of our colleagues. We had to accept the decision even though it was straight against our interest and willingness, kinda forced to do so.
After months, when we saw this incident, we were like, “Karma is a bitch.” It felt like it came true. The matter is, they did something wrong. They are not alone; thousands of people in Dhaka do the same, the wrong thing over and over again. But the difference is everyone knows it's wrong, and when confronted, they feel sorry, and in this case, they weren't sorry at all rather kept arguing with the person who stopped. As it was a teenage boy against two adults so they thought they could easily force their matter on their interest, but the boy was brave enough to stand still against them and made a video which went viral, as they were aggressive even though they were at fault.
We thought it was just a random incident and faded away within the night, but today it escalated so much that everywhere I scroll the feed or comment section in LinkedIn, I get to see this over and over again. My personal opinion was that, instead of getting aggressive, they should have been calm and handled the situation politely, as they were wrong. As I said, thousands of people do the same, pretty common, but they don't get aggressive or try to establish that wrong thing right.
As they are linked to lots of infrastructure, those organisations were getting backlash too from the public, so they had to make an announcement against them. But as we know, how things go.
To be honest, people will forget this incident within two days. Millions know what happened today, and they will forget them as well; it's just a matter of time that sometimes gets trendy. Only we, who know them personally, might remember this as a part of their personality, or so. Will we ever forget how they behave? How do they take things between right and wrong? Nope! They might learn from this incident, things are not always as we think them to be. Not everyone is bound to listen to us, not everyone will remain silent with some arrogant behavior. There will always be a few to confront and show the truth, and that's what happened.
Let's see how far it goes, and hope this becomes an example for hundreds of others so that they don't repeat the same mistake.
Take care,
Have a great day.
