I see three or four heads of cactus standing on a tall hill in the distance while much closer sits a goat on a much nearer hill.

It, he or she, is dead.

I feel they are dead because their eyes are close.

How can it be both dead and up-right, you probably ask?

With its small little hooves, this goat has climbed heights that the average -- no, that most humans can never even dream of. The physical endurance, the daily stress and wear-and-tear on its musculature have given them a solid powerful body that has been used successfully for years. This animal's feats of vertical traversal of wall-like cliffs would look to disobey the laws of physics if watched with the uneducated eye -- and not uneducated in a derogatory or slanderous sense but uneducated as in someone ... like myself ... who doesn't know much about goats. The few things I do know are cliches, mostly truthful ones, that they like to head-butt things, that they can climb steep inclines easily, and that in cartoons they can eat anything. And by anything, I mean: chunks of wood, barbed wire, tin cans, rocks. Obviously impossible but I've see it portrayed on television via cartoons at such an early age that it is hard for me to separate cartoon goats from real-life ones, such as the beautiful white sleeping one pictured above.

Yes, I am admitting he is probably sleeping. Probably basking in the sunlight after climbing up from the chilly depths below in search of warmth from the sun's first rays but when I stare at this goat long enough, look at their closes eyes, their still posture, and the blurry cactuses in the distance -- I can't help wonder, then think, and finally believe for many moments that they are dead. That their powerful body has finally come to rest and because their cliff-climbing muscles were so strong during its marvelous life, that they have kept its head upright even in death, holding it place so that -- despite another part of the goat has departed -- a part of the goat that remains can still rest in the sunlight and enjoy the warmth of the sun for a little while longer.

There were times when they climbed alone and when they climbed with company. Sometimes while climbing with company, they would end up alone. Climbing can be very dangerous. And other times while climbing alone, they would soon end up climbing with company. Climbing, like travel, can do that. Take you to new places, new places with new friends that may not completely replace old places and old friends but definitely confirm the fact that you are not where you were before and you are no longer alone -- even if for just a short while.

So while the goat above is alone at the top after climbing and may have died alone, a part of them is still climbing, traveling upward and forward to a new place, up new cliffs, to somewhere old friends have traveled to, where new friends are waiting!
