According to the legend, he spoke his last words to his son, Ziggy: "Money can't buy life".
The biggest character of the reggae genre, Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981 in the Cedar of Lebanon Hospital in Miami.
The brain cancer did not let him to see the country he was born in, Jamaica.
His illness was tragically quick. On September 20, 1980, he collapsed in Central Park in New York. He was on stage two days later in Pennsylvania - for the last time in his life. He was taken to a clinic in München, which focuses on patients with last stage cancer. He wanted to go home, but his condition became worse during the airplane flight, and he spent his last hours in the hospital in Miami. He was only 36 years old.
People can still feel the power of his music. Get Up, Stand Up, No Woman, No Cry, Buffalo Soldier, I Shot The Sheriff, Redemption Song are all part of the music history of the 20st century, but the Three Little Birds became the anthem of the Ajax Amsterdam football club since years, to pay respect for the football passion of Bob Marley.
His nickname was Tuff Gong in the Ghetto of Kingston.
As a child of a white father and black moter, he was discriminated, but he became the spiritual leader and political icon of his country, while he became the first music superstar of the third world. It is hard to find another music artist in the popular music, who was able to send the message of brotherhood and peace so much, and show the transcendent effect of a concert, transfer his own, almost mystical excstasy.

Bob Marley achieved a revolution with the reggae, what Beatles achieved with the pop music. He made the world love the reggae, and he was able to put it into other music, making it more rich with soul and pop elements. "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." - He said.
In 1976, his political commitment almost cost his life.
On December 3, three people broke into his house, and hurt him slightly, and hurt his wife, Rita and her manager, Don Taylor seriously. After Marley lived in London for a short time, they made the "One Love One Peace" concert in Kingston to end the citizen war in the country, which was between the Labour Party and the People's National Party.
He asked the leaders of the Parties, Michael Manley and Edward Seaga to come to the stage, who made peace by shaking hands. But he also had another peace concert on June 27, 1980, in Milano in the San Siro stadium. The big international tours deleted Italy from their program maps in those years because of the constant killing attempts. 80 000 people could have participated in the rite of the collective brotherhood.
For many people, Bob Marley still means the Rastafari movement, and those people, who asks to legalize marihuana are also referring to him. For Marley, Cannabis was a "saint" thing, a healing herb, which helps meditation and strengthen the faith. But his following thought is even more important than this: "none but ourselves can free our mind."

Bob is a legend, makes me want to hear some right now, but i havent listened to that much of his music actually. Makes me think about how marijuana is sometimes potent against cancer, but dam, disease got him early anyways.

I like his music, but I currently do not have any personal experience, nor any medical knowledge about marijuana. I heard that it may used as a medicide against cancer, but that is all I know about it at the moment.
