Post Payout Options 💰

When you come to write a post on @peakd or any other posting interface on the Hive blockchain, you have various options at the bottom of the post editor which shows you how the post will payout you, the author of the post, after the 7 days voting window has closed. Seeing as I mostly use PeakD, I'll be sticking with screenshots from this site.

Clicking "Advanced" reveals several options available in a drop down list but you can also add beneficiaries, who will receive a percentage of your post payout depending on how much you set it as.

Remember that the post payout amount is split in half with 50% going to you, the author, and the other 50% going to those who voted on your post, the curators.

50% HBD & 50% HP 💡

This is my preferred option and I have this set as a default.

What this means is that you will receive 50% of the author rewards as a "liquid" post payout in the form of HBD (although if the price of HIVE drops below $0.20 or so, it will be HIVE instead of HBD) and 50% Hive Power which will help you do more things on the network.

It's the best of both worlds really as you can save up some Hive in the form of Hive Power for the long term and you can also have some liquid available should you need it. For example, in the @yourtop3 contest, you use the 50/50 option where the liquid part of the post payout (HBD) is sent in as an entry fee for the contest and the other half is Hive Power HP part is powered up - pretty cool hey!

P.S. If you want to enter this month's contest, you still have until the 9th - full info at @yourtop3 😉

100% Hive Power 💪

Quite straightforward here - all of your author rewards will be converted straight to Hive Power so if you are here for the long haul, a pretty good strategy but if you need some liquid then probably not!

Reward.app 👩‍👧‍👦

@reward.app is a new and experimental feature where you can give away more of your author reward percentage to those who voted on your post or have more author rewards for yourself. It converts all of the post payout to liquid form for a fee and pays out the author and curators in HBD and HIVE.

For example, if you wanted to give 75% of the post payout to voters and 25% to yourself, then you'd select the reward.app option and send 0.001 HIVE to @reward.app with "75" in the memo. Pick any number between 0-100 and that's what the percentage of the post payout will be that goes to voters on your post.

Full details of how it works can be found here.

Please note, this is an experiment and is quite an advanced method so if you're not sure how it works then stick to a simpler post payout method

Burn 🔥

If you don't want any rewards and don't want your "would be" post payouts to go to the reward pool, then you can opt to burn all the HIVE/HBD that would have been generated. This means that HIVE/HBD is gone forever, burned to a cinder, gone!

Donate to Hive Fund 👩‍💻

If you wanted the post payout to go fully towards the Hive Development Fund (where people put forward proposals for projects to be funded with HBD) then you can contribute your post payouts to this.

Bear in mind, the Development Fund already receives 10% or so of the new HIVE tokens produced each day already and you may want to check how much it's being utilised first before selecting this option.

Decline 🛑

If you don't want any rewards and DO want your "would be" post payouts to be distributed back to the rewards pool, then select "decline". This just means that more HIVE/HBD can go to other authors as part of the daily distribution of votes.

Beneficiaries 😃 🤗

Maybe you collaborated with another user on PeakD to make some awesome content on your post? This is a good way to distribute a pre-determined amount of the post rewards between all collaborators.

It's a bit like a smart contract in a sense, for example, a music producer and a singer working together to make an epic track may have discussed that they would split it 50/50 so you'd add their username and set the amount to 50% in the box that appears:

Conclusion

So there you have it folks, the post payout options available for your authoring pleasure via the PeakD site.

Hope you found it useful, if you have any questions about these, let me know in the comments! Which is your preferred one?

Nicky

P.S. - Don't forget to write your post for the @yourtop3 contest - this month's topic is "End of the World" movies! Full info here! 😃

That is very useful was searching for this on google and your post came up.

Do you know how to see which beneficiaries someone has chosen? I'd like to check on some posts.

Thanks

Ha! This is an old post but that's cool it ended up being in Google!

You can hover your mouse over the number on the post payout or tap it if you're using the phone. It will tell you the info in the little box that appears:

Thanks, finally!

That is great sum up of all the reward distribution functionality available. ..however I just wondering how many of authors would really want to get their pay cut?? I remember "projecthope" ask you to get the beneficiary set at 20 % and in return get heavy upvotes.....similarly few other apps already have a percentage set automatically like threespeak ,dtube,ecency.....

Question still arises, is that other way to make our presence felt....may be some of the top authors or stake holders opting (which I doubt as well) but when it comes to middle or small stakeholders they never like to share the reward cut....after hf23 and equal reward distribution....these option are hardly to opt for.....this is my thinking....

Thanks man, glad you found it helpful!

I just wondering how many of authors would really want to get their pay cut?

That's a good question and I don't really know how many authors would do that on a regular basis. It may be considered a risk to reduce your own author rewards and get bigger upvotes which may or may not offset the amount gained (if anything) from curation but who knows? May be worth trying once or twice to see how it goes, it's all an experiment (regarding the @reward.app)

I'm not sure about how Project Hope works exactly so can't comment on that but I think different communities have different "terms of service" so to speak, for being a part of it or using a dapp so if people are happy to pay these fees in the form of taking a cut from post payout then that's the way it is!

is that other way to make our presence felt?

We think similarly on this and I don't think we're alone. Those who stayed after HF23 would have seen the author % be cut from 75% to 50% (what it is now) but I've generally seen an improvement in my post payouts but I've always tried to be active in some capacity here and helping out where I can so whether that has a bearing... I don't know.

A lot of professional bloggers and content creators don't have much Hive stake either because they are new, can't afford to buy up or just want to see how it goes on here with additional revenue stream. All of which are absolutely fine in my view in any case.

So it's something for the top authors maybe to consider but for folks like us who are probably happy to hit above $1 and very happy to see double digits, maybe not. As I said earlier though, might be worth trying out on one or two and see if it has the desired effects!

I use to be on 7th heaven if post crosses $1....

Rightly said, everything ends up with experimentation....higher stakeholders have their say....reward.app does work as I received few reward through it....hopefully I give it a try ..as well let see how it help in bringing change of fortune...on Hive

Haha yeah I used to be cloud 9 if I got above $0.10 back in the day!

Yes I seem to have had a few reward.app payouts sometime from voting so it could be interesting to see how it pans out. Let me know how you get on!

An excellent tutorial on what is available, another topic to help many once again Nicky.

@tipu curate

Thanks a lot Joan, glad you found it useful! There's a lot of options out there with PeakD so trying to highlight the important ones as I go through!

I think it's me who's needing an ice bath soon - 35C in UK over the next few days!

I must admit that I've never studied these features of HIVE until now and left it at default. You've summed it up pretty well. I wanted to try out reward.app but felt its bit confusing to me. I have to read their posts thoroughly once I find some time.

Yeah default is probably the best in terms of giving flexibility and longevity to Hive Power. I had to do a bit of research on reward.app to make sure I understood it too but it seems pretty straightforward to use. I'm sure once you've used it a couple of times it's like bread and butter hey.

While you are in that ice bath Dr. Nicky, dream up a way for us to get more exposure for the @combination account.
I also like your default 50%HBD & 50%HP as it makes a lot of sense!
Blessings and keep cool!

Well it's the legend @papilloncharity! How are you doing young bean??

I'm no marketing expert mate but would say that you should have more info about what the @combination account is about, if you have a social media page that will help too. Decent logo, etc

Will try and keep cool, need some of that South Africa winter up here!

Doing okay thank you Nicky,

We have all of the info on the account, including the logo etc. as it is basically a charity giveaway, that is not dependent on the Hive rewards pool.
In fact a percentage of the income is given to the rewards pool in an effort to build Hive.
Just thought that you might have some ideas!

We have relocated from the north to the south and now live in a province that they call "The Cape of Storms".
Gale force winds that want to tear your ears off and snow on the mountain peaks, all mixed with incessant winter rain. Temp around 10C

Exactly what an adventurer like you need right now 😁

Seems like you have the foundations there mate, would say you just need to spread the word and share on twitter etc to get more eyes on!

You did check the area you have moved to before you moved there right? The Cape of Storms sounds like something out of a disaster movie! I like my adventures but I also like to live to tell the tale 😂

Hahaha, oh yeah, been here on visits many times before and always wanted to live here.
Mountains at the back and the ocean at the front, what more can any old guy want?
Have a gander at my post today and you will see what I mean.

Hope that you will have a great weekend my friend!

Very well put together and great explanation of features. Definitely useful information for new and experienced Hive users.

Thanks a lot mate! Glad you found it useful and hope others will do - there's a lot of options on peakd so doing what I can to break it down layer by layer!

Don't forget you can also send 25% of your rewards to @youtop3 once a month :P

I'm sure Q won't complain if people want to do that 😉

To sum up how I feel about this... 😊

Hahaha, thanks for the good juju @traciyork!!

This is, as usual, not just useful, but clear and insightful. Especially for someone who glazes over when it comes to some of the technicalities. I have received a fee reward.app rewards. Great idea for people with enough HP to share...

Posted using Dapplr

Thanks Fiona! Yeah that's the idea to try and help educate on all the different options available for the every day user. I do need to cover other things that most may overlook but think this will be a good starting point for now!

Glad to hear it!
