I left as the last installment of my visit to the city of Venezia in 2015 (rather than visiting a real stay that lasted a week with friends when I was still living in Italy) the fantastic Venice Carnival.

38.VeneciaCarnaval1.png

A multicolored parade of masks and history that is worth visiting in images.

38.VeneciaCarnaval19.png

Unique in its style in the entire world, the origins of the Venice Carnival date back to the 11th century, although it was actually declared as such a festival only in the 13th century.

38.VeneciaCarnaval18.png

On that occasion, the "guest of honor" was Italian cuisine and gastronomy in general, apart from several cultural events, among which a tribute to the three tenors stood out: Placido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti and to the Marchioness Casati, the eccentric Italian heir patron of arts and fashion who lived from 1881 to 1957, the inspiring muse of Italian futurists such as Marinetti, Depero and Boccioni. inspiring muse of artists and literary figures of the caliber of Robert de Montesquieu, Jean Cocteau and Cecil Beaton.

The most celebrated masks are those that represent characters such as the Bauta, characterized by the typical black cloak called Tabarro and a white mask called Larva.

38.VeneciaCarnaval15.png

The Moretta, a female version of the Bauta, with veils and lace, is also very popular, according to some inspirational stories of an erotic nature in some games that were held in ancient times.

38.VeneciaCarnaval14.png

We must not forget the more than famous Colombina, a mask different from the others because it is adorned with gold and silver, feathers and crystals, and covers only half of the face. It has always been the most chosen mask for women.

38.VeneciaCarnaval16.png

Another popular mask that has a bird-like figure is that of the Plague Doctor. In fact, the origin of this mask is not only real but also tragic since it has its origin in 1600, when the French doctor De Lorme hid his face for the first time to protect it during visits to plague patients.
