A fine day to experience something I never tried before. I just realized that I didn't know much about the history of our place until I got to answer the entrance exam last month. I don't know if I have given them the right answer that time, but it has passed, anyway. As I happen to passed by the museum last week, I get curious if there's more to learn than what Google have provided me.

Then when I find time this week, I went to Negros Art Museum. I bought a ticket for 80 pesos and have a look around as much as I want. Just killing time while there is still no class but being productive in a way.

That is "Bao" (a carabao sculpture) who invites and greets tourists to come and have a tour at the museum.

The guards lead me to this entrance and a female staff welcomed me. I paid and fill in my details, then I'm good to go in my own. They also offer free tour guide but I refused, I want to enjoy my time looking around without hurrying. The last time that I went to the Negros Forest Park, the tour guides were like having an emergency. I heard a rap instead of an explanation, and not even a few minutes had alloted on each animal before we proceed to the next one. I can't have a closer look on each of them and just went home dissatisfied.

Some black and white paintings on the entrance as I was entering the first floor.

In this part of a hallway, they showcase the history of Bacolod. The first Barangay where people have settled after the Moro Raid in the shore of Magsungay. There is an old photos of Bacolod Public Plaza where the only thing that is still left recognizable until now is the Gazebo in the middle.

Three large canvass in their conference room.

Turning left at this corner and walking to this hallway is where the adventures began. It looks kinda eerie actually, especially that I was roaming around here alone. There was another one but he was already at the second floor.

I find this corner cute. A piece of Machuca Tiles and a stem of Ti Plant (Baston ni San Jose in Hiligaynon dialect).

These are recent paintings made last 2020. The one that captivated me the most is the one where the old lady selling her vegetables in the market. I just remembered the times that we were also selling vegetables and how hard the process was from planting to growing, hauling them to the market and to selling each of it, still not all of the vegetables will be sold at the end of the day.

These pieces are called "Ang Mga Nawong Ni Alvarado" (The Faces Of Alvarado). I thought that the person might be some old great politicians since the name sounds popular, but as I searched some information about the painting. Alvarado is the name of the artist of these paintings.

IMG_20220816_160325.jpg

I thought these are carvings in a portray, but as I read the information at the side, it is an acrylic painting about "The Voyagers".

Sugarcane plantations as the main business of Negros back then. The Sugar Mill in the last picture is similar to the one in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental and still operating until now, but it's not from there according to the artist. It's from Victorias City. Maybe, sugar mills just have similar structural designs in each places.

Going out of that room, here's an old map of Negros. There's nothing to see at the end of the hallway, but there are still a lot of rooms upstairs.

Imagine that you are walking these stairs at night and you have seen a lady in a white gown with a long hair covering her face waiting for you upstairs. Would you run or you might want to have an interview with the ghost? (Just kidding) 😆

Old and worn out fishing boats in both corners. There are Barangays in Bacolod that lies in the shoreline and one of their livelihood here is fishing. I have lived in one of those places back then and seen a lot of these small fishing boats everyday.

Hey, @jude.villarta. I understand how stressed you are now with your paintings. Some of these paintings are almost as tall as the height of the room. I don't know how you do that and still deliver a detailed and amazing work.

Anyway, these paintings portrays the history of the southern part of Negros and the usual livelihoods of the place. There are also some old cultures of burial practices and old healing method through the help of a Babaylan.

A cabinet of medicine placed in the last room of the museum. This was taken from the Cinco De Noviembre landmark in Silay City that served as a drugstore and a hideout of the Negrense Revolutionaries to secretly carry out the plan against the Spanish Colonials during November 5, 1898. Source

Among those crafts and paintings, I was mesmerized to see that tree. It's glowing like a tree of encantos in a myth.

I thought this room was off limits since it was closed at first but the staff turned on the lights as they saw me pass by the door and the other visitor called me to have a look.

This hall serves as a reminiscent of Philippine Ancestral Houses, which the Museum called La Casa De Negros. It offers an Old Ambience for tourists who wants to soak in the atmosphere and pretend that they are living in the past.

Since it was already 5 pm and they wanted to close the museum, I couldn't ask anymore if I can rent those traditional clothes and wear it for few minutes, just to match the vibe.

Last picture before I was asked to leave the museum. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the virtual tour.

The artworks are outstanding Ayane - contrary to what you loved well I also got mesmerized with the huge tree, the one that captured my attention is Ang Mga Nawong Ni Alvarado" (The Faces Of Alvarado. Somehow it speaks to me as a person that there are a ton of emotions and faces that we are trying to portray and more often than not they clash with each other. For me, it is a masterpiece.

True. That one is speaks a lot but the tree was enchanting, tho. It caught my imagination right away. May mga encanto na agad akong naisip. 😆

Hey, @jude.villarta. I understand how stressed you are now with your paintings. Some of these paintings are almost as tall as the height of the room. I don't know how you do that and still deliver a detailed and amazing work.

🤣 took years to do it 😌

Lucky you for having a huge art museum at your place and has a lot of beautiful paintings too..

Madami din dito art galleries, punta ako dun next time. Tapos tag ulit kita.

sige sigeee i’d like that

The craftmanship of the Tree! its awesome!

Right, it is. I can't imagine myself painting as tall as that, maybe it will took years before I could finish one.

@ayane-chan hmm 🤔 get a banko!🤣✌🏽 kidding, i think some artist finishes their creations 5 to 10 years or sometime they left the waking world before and didn't. 😅 parang GoT. If familiar ka, di pa nya tapos yung book pero tinapos na ni HBO kasi baka ma deds na sya tas wala pa din ending yung creation nya hehe. anyway, I'll take this as an inspiration to find my own creation too ✨❤️ much !luv

~Ahh, after reading your article, I want to book a flight to Negros Occidental. That museum is a treasure! I do hope that they will preserve everything and what is left. I am also thinking of @jude.villarta the moment I scrolled to the paintings. I love the photos, Ayane-cutie!

!PIZZA
